Old Rusted Broken 3 Level Tool Box - Restoration Workshop DC
Hello guys! How are you doing? Hope great!
In this video i show how to restore a old rusted Broken 3 level tool box.
I find this tool box when in the middle of iron scrap in a friend house, so my friend give the box to me for free hehe'
I don't know how many years this tool box have, i thin probably 30 years or more.
To do this job i need a help of my plier, chisel, screwdriver, hand drill, drill and of course Mr Fox.
So to start the restoration i begin using penetrating oil to make more easy to disassemble.
The box was super stucked and with a broken handle which make my job more hard.
After put a lot of penetrating oil i begin doing little holes with a hand drill.
With all holes done, i start to drill the rivets to disassemble.
To remove all the remais of rivets i used a chisel, not a propely tool to this job but worked.
After that with a screwdriver i disassemble all the conections.
All parts are full of dirt and rust, so i give a little clean to remove the superficial dirt.
Now with all parts half cleaned i give them a bath with hot water and Sodium hydroxide, this chemical will remove all the deep dirt and melt some paint.
With all parts cleaned from the bath i begin remove the old paint with paint stripper, this process took me 8 hours to be done.
Before i remove the rust i debend all the imperfections on the surface.
Now is time to remove all the rust, and for that i used hidrochloric acid, the resut was impressive but the parts get rusted really fast.
There was some holes that the rust made so i fill them with filler and sanded with 120G.
So is time to paint, and for that i used hammered paint Blue.
I Also make some rubber base protections to prevent from damage.
Now i assemble all parts with new rivets and washers, the assemble was kinda hard, took me 2 hours to be done.
The result was perfect, i think.
What do you think?

Holy smokes, rivets galore! Your fluffy little friend did not loot to satisfied that you locked (him/her?) in there hahaha. Good choice putting the foam in the bottom of each tool compartment, now you just need to restore some more small tools to fill it up!
He became really angry with me when I looked him inside the box hehe' Time to looking for old tools to restore to fill the box. Thanks Bro! ❤️

I want to add that in addition to this being a fine video with good workmanship, that you appear to be singular in performing restorations not just to restore the appearance, but you give the impression that these tools will be used in the future. For this I want to commend you!!!
I always try to do a great job on the tool/pieces that I restore thinking that them can be used again.
Thanks a lot for the comment BGB! ❤️🙏

You did a great job of restoration, I can imagine how long this restoration took, but the result was worth it 👍 I like it
Yep! I almost don't upload the video in time. It was a Very hard one. Thanks mate! ❤️
Nice job, although I think I would have replaced that handle instead of repairing it. It will probably be fine, but it could break again in that same weak spot. The restoration was very nice.
The handle broke cause the old owner do not puted some engine oil on the rivets which make the box stuck, that's the probably reason for that broken part. I thinked in make a new handle, but i realised that a good weld would be enough. Thanks Greg! ❤️
You just ruined a perfectly fine toolbox!
😁
Thanks for Watching
Muito bom!
Muito obrigado! ❤️
A desvantagem é, obviamente, a manutenção. Parafusos do tipo cabeça de lentilha ficaria igual e mais fácil a manutenção futura.
Um abraço.
Muito Obrigado! ❤
