I just got prisma color scholar and they’re my first prisma color but I wanted to see how they looked compared to normal prisma color so thank you for making this video
I just ordered a prismacolor Scholar and i was having second guesses as to will it be as good or atleast half as good as the premiere!!! Im so happy rite now, Thanks ❤❤❤
I've had prismacolor scholar for 2 years now and I love them. Just this week I got a 72 set of prismacolor premier and I love them as well. There's definitely a difference, but if you want to start out learning and don't want to invest in the more expensive version, the scholars are great! I learned a lot by using them so now I'm more comfortable using the premiers :) enjoy your new pencils!
>> if you want to start out learning and don't want to invest in the more expensive version Yes, that is the whole point of this cheap art supplies series. Thanks for the extra review!
Yo no he encontrado la línea Scholar® aquí, sólo Escolar y Junior. La gama Scholar es más amplia que los Junior y creo que en la actualidad ya descontinuaron los Escolares normales.
I've been telling everyone this.. for years! .. Actually, I used them in fashion school, because there's some colors that I just kept running out (black, white, indigo, etc) and I was in a very tight budget sometimes; and they worked just fine! I used them on top of charpak, watercolor, etc. Love your videos!!
They are everywhere. We have some at our 711 store! I think it’s even the 24 count. I really want the caren dache luminance colored pencils and I have some faber castell polychromes that are amazing but they say the best is Caren dache. They are very expensive. Thanks for sharing. I tend to like water soluble media like inktense (amazing) and eventually Buy a set of Faber Castell albrecht durer
Thank you for sharing this info, didn't know about scholar pencils or that you can use rubbing alcohol to blend with a Q-tip. This is extremely helpful . . . thank you again.
I have the scholar pack because my mom wouldn’t let me get the premier because of the price but for the violet, If you have a 60 pack I recommend using the color “orchid” because it works a lot better than violet and is a lot prettier in my opinion.
I liked this comparison. Yeah, I found the quality of the Scholar to be very impressive compared to the Premier. As well as their overseas Junior line, too (I think they're sold in Latin America - the packaging is all in Spanish). If you're a huge Prismacolor Premier user you'll feel the difference but I find even though I can tell them apart when using them, I really like the Solar and Junior lines. You can tell the formula that makes Premier so creamy and easy to blend, and the color so vibrant, is still there in the lower brands. They're definitely related.
Thank you for this video I also used Prismacolor premier for the most part but it was in highschool art class and now I want to buy my own but like I'm broke 🤣 so I can only buy the scholar one for now. This comparison is super helpful as well as your tips for future designers. 😁
As someone who adores colored pencils, I have to say this. They may be a slow medium (and definitely not my main medium) but oh hell are they fun. Also I'd recommend what she said, Bristol, or illustration board. (I always use illustration board because I like to hang up my art) I mostly use black illustration board with my prisma colors. I'd highly recommend black paper, it's super fun to use.
Just bought the 132 count Premiere. Before that I was using a 24 pack and I wasn't so happy with the colors selection. These pencils are indeed the best I've tried.
Thank you for this comparison. I was debating if I should purchase the Scholars or not. My mom and I use Crayola mostly for coloring in books. But, the Creative Haven Autumn Scenes book has paper that Crayola doesn't adhere to very well (weird). I own the PC Premiers and they work well on this book's paper. So, I want to get the Scholars for my mom to practice. Thanks again 3 yrs later lol.
Thank you for the wonderful review! I was thinking of buying the 60 pack of scholars one day when I save enough money LOL but I wanted to know first if they were any good. Your review was very helpful! ♥♥♥
Those of you who are considering purchasing the Prismacolor Scholars should check out the Scholastic brand of color pencils. They are priced at 20% of the cost of the Scholars but perform virtually the same. I got a set of 24 for $2 (normally $3.99) at Office Max. The similar Scholar set was $19.99 at the same store.
i found a premier set of 72 cheaper then a set of 60 scholars. On german amazon. Now I am really confused. But you are right, both look great and if it can save money it is a great alternative
Honestly, I MUCH prefer prismacolor premier to pc scholar. I got my first set, which were scholars, some time last year. They're good, don't get me wrong, but I feel like they're less pigmented and more scratchy than premier in a way? I got a set of premier a few months ago and I love them.
Just ordered the scholars. I think maybe I'll order the premieres color by color for a 12 pack. Update. I ordered neither. Oh well I still have my Polychromes 12!!!!!
I've heard that Amazon has a sale on the premiere for around $58 I believe. For the 150 set! I'm was hoping to get them for my birthday but I might just go for the scholar :)
For the way I use color pencils, the Scholars are my absolute favorite. Way better than crayola, while being cheap enough that if they hit the floor, I don't care. I use them for work, for writing quick notes, and in place of high lighters,... etc. I work with fabric/yarn and learned a long time ago, markers on a table are deadly because you forget the cap isn't on, throw some piece of fabric on top of it, and the whole marker can soak into that fabric. Color pencil might make a tiny mark, but it's not a disastor.
i would have invest on the scholar one but in where i live they dont sell the scholar one only the premier so ye i invested on that and i have no regrets
I don't have a verithin video. I haven't used them in ages and ages. Now that I'm thinking about it, I think the last time I really used them was in college when we did long form underdrawings for 12 hour composition studies. Definitely not for any coloring or blending.
I use different types of mediums for drawing fashion and design. sometimes I use just colored pencil, or just watercolor. or watercolor pencils which are like watercolor on the go as I like to think of it.
I love the scholar over the premier :( I have the premier set coming 48 pack and sometimes I actually even prefer crayola and I'll tell you why , It is so hard using darker colored pencils I prefer lighter Because color is very important that's why I love the color Wheel When I need a lighter color it is very often it is just easier to make a lighter color darker You cant make a darker color light It really makes More sense you would think color pencils would manufacture differently Lol a lot of times in a color pencil contrast The premier looks off because of it's dark hue
I really enjoyed watching this video as someone who has used prismacolor scholar pencils for years. I've always wondered if I should upgrade or not. Thanks for the indepth analysis :D
I'm not sure whether I should get Prismacolor Premier or Prismacolor Scholars, which ones should I get? Obviously the Premier is more expensive with less colours but I'm not 100% sure how big of a difference there is
Thank you for your review. I decided to go with matching Scholar and Premier sets. I also have some extra from a thrift find and manga set. I recently also got the complete verithin and 24 artstix. What do you think about inktense by Derwent?
@@zoehongteaches Thanks so much for your reply. I have vintage Derwent studio (they are hard like verithin) and coloursoft. I plan to aquire the inktense 36. I also want the Koh I Noor 24 tri color pencils and my collection will be complete.
i don't know about prismacolor, but in faber castell, i read the amateur line differences itself from the professional one mostly in lightfastness. So maybe (i haven't done the test) they are similar when you swatch them, but if you do a light-fastness test it might change (and maybe it is the same way with prismacolor)... (Again, I'm not sure about this, I haven't tried it out). (sorry for writing without a single capital letter, just put on some nail polish lol)
>>mostly in lightfastness Makes sense. Most people assume no one's hanging student work on a wall for years and when they're thinking about properties to sacrifice to bring the cost down...
Setya Bella Utari Yes, the lids do break much easier. But the Prismacolor scholars lead is harder, therefore it doesn't break as easily. The Prismacolor Premier pencils are much softer and break very easily.
When you say you can but these pencils cheaply in KMart, spare a thought for your Australian friends. We nearly "gag" when you say this. We pay thru the nose, and then shipping from Amazo
I feel like when I had the Scholars they acted so much like Crayola that I ended up just using Crayola. I only use colored pencils when I draw so I guess maybe that's the difference? But I felt like I could achieve the same color saturation and the same feel in a drawing and I was very disappointed personally in the Scholars. I also own the premier ones and I can kind of feel a difference but i prefer Crayola over anything.
I just got prisma color scholar and they’re my first prisma color but I wanted to see how they looked compared to normal prisma color so thank you for making this video
I bought the 60 set Scholars. Can't wait to use them just, because of this video!

Same here. I would rather have both though but I'll do that when I get older
Love the testing of more affordable supplies... It really helps out a girl like me .... Hope u continue .. love u Zoe
Oh, yeah, I have a bunch more, this series will def continue.
Your handwriting is beautiful! I love it 💙
Thanks!
the scholar pack here in Mexico are everywhere as well but in a carton box. I'm getting my little sister a set

I totally wish I had these in college--I was so broke all the time back then!
Scholar can be blended with the prismacolor colorless blender for markers
Thank you for this video. I am looking for an alternative to Prismacolor for seniors to try out color pencils. I will be going with the Scholars!

Love this video, you really packed in the information. Great job going to look for more of your videos.
Thank you.( make a DVD I will buy it.)
Thanks, that helped a lot. For quite a bit less than the price I would've paid for 24 Premier, I got 24 Scholar and 50 Crayola.
I like them. I bought the 60 scholar and they were on sale for back to school for $19.99 CA for the 50 set. They're my backup for my scholar.

Hahahaha~ I guess in that case it's an accessibility thing because prisma is from sanford which is a US company and the scholars are more rare...?
Zoe Hong scholar are from mexico

i cant blame you for not using them in years, i dont like those pencils either lol
Kinda disappointed slightly by how the scholar's violet dark brown and peach are more candy ish but certainly isn't too bad of a negative

I'm good, how are you?
have you tried the faber castell goldfaber colored pencils. there really nice quality, tough but smooth, and have nice packaging.
No, I've only seen the polychromos. I'll keep an eye out.

what brand name sharpener is that? pleasee reply. thanks!
I just saw these at Michaels!
What do you all suggest? Prisma Premier 36 set or Scholar 60 set for exactly the same price?
premier 36

Scholar is my favorite
The 150 premier have some of the colors you mentioned.

@Weez Dreamer Tysm for the reply, I'll definitely think about getting premiers
I NEVER knew that premier prismacolor pencil crayons existed
I have the same blue pencil you wrote with
very helpful
I'm actually really heavy handed so I was hoping that these would be a tiny less pigmented.. 😑
In my Different Media playlist, I have a video on testing 4 brands of cheaper colored pencils and some of those are less pigmented.

Can l use scholar colour pencils for realastic drawing? Are they as good as prismacolor?
New sub... thanks for this!

Actually do blend very well
i got my pismacolor premier for $4.00

Is scholar creamy like premier???
Watercolor is the slowest for me colored pencils fits my quick hand aa it dries unlike paint dry wait time
