I started in January 2021 and did private, instrument, commercial multi, commercial single add-on, and I have my CFI checkride in 3 weeks. I have 270 hours, only 26.1 are AMEL. Feels pretty economical to me.

Great info, I agree with what your saying. I would add to this, find a good flight club for time building. I saved a lot of money being a partial owner compared to renting.

Like this video great idea I did Commercial Single as my initial because I realized how much cheaper it is get my Multi-Engine keep up the Great work Jason

To get runway alignment correct from the right sight, I ran a line of blue painter’s tape down the cowling from the center line of the seat and aligned with the runway. I also had a CFI sitting in the left seat the first time!

Thank you so much for this video. Currently have my PPL and was needing advice on which way to advance. I think you highlighted the points that resonate with me the most.

I was rolling the traditional way. I had commercial basically completed last year here in Kissimmee but we ran into some issues at the home and financial as well trying to fix all of that. Gotta have somewhere to live before getting a rating. I have my PPL/IFR and was going to hit up Commercial and the flight school asked me more than once if I was interested in CFI after. I don't know if I even have that type of knowledge to even approach teaching but I guess I was going the traditional route. About to finish up the commercial now that we are stable again but hey, it's just another 100 hours of flying my own plane in the meantime. Keep it up!

I was one of the backwards people that did my CMEL then did a Single add on. At the time I was working at Netjets who had a small flight school available as a work benefit. The flight school did not have a complex single in their fleet so the route to commercial started with the multi. I was very fortunate because at the time I was able to do payroll deduction for my flight training… also I paid the unbelievably low rate of $150 per hour wet for the Cessna 310 that I did my training in!!! Wish I could get some multi time at those rates now :)

I’m a proponent of single commercial initial, CFI, multi commercial add on then MEI. Throw CFII in there wherever you want. I say do multi commercial add on and MEI at the same time because the knowledge base is pretty much identical and the checkrides are very very similar. I would do those back to back. It would be good that way. I did my multi commercial add on and MEI nearly 20 years apart. I had to learn it all over again.

Finished my private in December. Trying to build time now - the plan is IFR, Single Commercial, CFI and II by next spring (2023). Then use my CFI to help offset the expensive multi time

I have single engine private. I purchased a 150 to build time. Currently working on obtaining a single engine commercial with a limitation.
After commercial obtain instrument to remove the limitation then CFI & CFII. The AOPA has an article on using training expenses as a tax deduction. This is the reason I have chose this route.

I’m going instrument, then commercial single, then possibly cfi/cfii or commercial multi. I’m not 100% sure yet on how I’m going to do it. I’m knee deep in instrument and commercial currently haha!

You can if your willing use the military. I got my PPL in college, then Air Force at graduation took my mil comp commercial multi test, only the written and got all my ratings, then paid for my ATP, took mil comp for my CFI/II MEII. Just another option. I only paid for my ppl and atp. Everything else paid for, I would say go guard/reserve if you can. But just another option out there, everyone’s journey is different. I wouldn’t change mine as it got me to my dream job at a legacy airline.

Hi Jason, thanks for that video. I was a bit lost before, but i think i still am. I've got my PPL (+aerobatics,RU, VP) and almost 200h, just go a fresh nVFR rating a few weeks ago. I'm almost finished with my MSc in aerospace engineering and for a long time I was not considering becoming either instructor or getting a CPL (still 100% not considering ATPL at all). Now, I am considering going CPL and/or instructor (I currently live in France but planning to go back either to Switzerland or Australia). I don't know which one to do first. Also, IFR is in my plans, but I don't know when. What order would you recommend please ? thanks in advance ;)
I don't want to make that my main job but instructing during the week end and week evenings might be really cool imo.
Might come to the US one day if there's a bundle with a good price for ratings or cpl/ir or instructor, who knows... I started flying at Embry-Riddle in Florida when I was 17
