I began my martial arts studies early and hard after the TV series Kung Fu pilot. My plan was to be like Kwai Cheng Kaine. Naturally, this shows my years, as I just turned 61-years old last month. However, I am happy to report that I have become the very person that I aspired to be. Starting with Kenpo karate in 3rd grade, I advanced into Wing Chun kung fu and Jeet kune Do by 5th grade. By 7th grade (1976) I started teaching my friends. However, the adaptation of Aikido with Wing Chun/Jeet Kune Do in 1989 made perfect sense. Christian Tissier's art has raised my knowledge of the simple physics of self-defense. Mind you, Jeet Kune Do comes with a lot of auxiliary training including Western boxing. But in the end, as Warriors for Peace, we must strive to do the least damage in all defensive "predicaments". I teach my students "You will know you have 'arrived' when you lose on purpose". For in the end, it is all about humility. Peace be with you, Master Tissier. And thank you!!
