I cannot thank you enough for posting this! Disneyland is my ABSOLUTE favorite place on Earth and has been since I was a little girl. I have been tons of times and I love being there. I have always felt like Disneyland is like my hometown. The sad thing is, that 15 years ago I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. I have not been to Disneyland for a decade and for the last 5 years I have been fully bedridden from the MS and totally incapacitated. I also am on Disability and there is no way I could afford to go there again. Even if I could manage to save up enough to go, I cannot stand or walk even around my own bedroom, so going to Disneyland is not something I will ever be able to do again. It makes me really sad when I think of it. But, seeing this video brought it all back to me, especially with how thoroughly everything was filmed. It was like going home again. Thank you so so much for helping me relive this wonderful memory! I am so grateful.
3:00 this is my favorite part of the ride. The switch from the upbeat music to the slow, echo-ey melody and the blue and purple lighting. For a moment, I felt like I was there again. Thank you for what you do.
But seriously how can you argue that this is a common cold when those stats exist? where does 98% come from? mine came from the world health organization...
Wow, what a good camera they used for this! Image stabilization and the video is so clear and clean. You can see more in this video then when you're actually on the ride!
I really miss pirates. I loved the feeling of cool air on a hot day when you go down the first drop and the smell of the room. 🙏🏼 I hope to go again one day. I’m fortunate enough that I was able to go the first week of March before they closed... I miss being a pass holder and going after work.
Y’all kill it with these videos! Thank you for posting these. COVID ruined my families 4-day dream trip to Disneyland (would’ve been all 3 of my kids’ first time), and its finally settling in. These videos help me get my Disney fix
This is an awesome video! I can smell the water and feel myself in the boat when I watch this. This video is the best one of POTC on RUclips. Thank you so much for filming and uploading this for us to enjoy!
watching this in 2021, and Disneyland will have been closed for an entire year in March. watching these videos brings me back and makes me both happy and sad at the same time. a lot of people bag on Disney and their fans, but some don't understand how deeply rooted and important it is in some peoples lives. I struggle with anxiety, and Disneyland has always been my happy place, my safe space, and my escape from all my worries. i miss it so much. fast forward please, time
Same here but not the indiana jones adventure ride if thats what your talking about, i fuckin cried when i saw the preview, my mom thought it wouldnt jerk around that much but boy was she wrong, my neck will jerk around on rides like that, needless to say i ended up waiting for my parents near the exit. =')
:D This ride scared the ever living crap out of me when I was a kid, now I love it and how well it's done!!! My favorite part I think is when we go through the caves, and i love how it feels like your going down into different levels of the ride w all the drops
Same here this and the Haunted Mansion we're the two rides that I was absolutely terrified to go on when I was very little now as an adult it's one of my favorites at Disneyland
Great video, just like being there. Have not been to Disneyland since I started working at Walt Disneyworld in 1993. I retired now, Disney land is my favorite park, I hope it opens in the near future. 😎
By far the BEST Pirates of the Caribbean in the world. Even Shanghai doesn't have 2 drops and a blue bayou with fireflies and an awesome trip back UP the waterfall at the end. We ate Monte Cristo Grilled Cheese and Jelly sandwiches at the Blue Bayou restaurant. Nothing compares to this original masterpiece!
I aggree, this is the only WALT Disney PotC , all others are Disney Co. Anonymous ripoffs and Shanghai is a fake one, powered by the "fear for Universal Studios" SO let's do like Universal (90% videoscreens ...)= very sad. Let's celebrate this ONLY original ! :-)
Far as the opening bayou scenery goes THIS VIDEO IS ABSOLUTELY THE BEST! I've seen them all and this person has a front row seat with no people obstructioning the view and HiDEF camera and (s)he doesn't cut over to the restaurant area constantly which is SO ANNOYING! I faved this so I can always pull it up to watch that beautiful bayou scenery. If I had 10 million dollars I would definitely build a replica of this in my backyard, even if I had to get sued by the Disney Corp. for infringement and then live in a home that looked like the shack that guy with the pipe and banjo lives in just to be able to sit on my porch and enjoy all this beauty at night. But I'd have to fight off REAL mosquitoes too so get out the OFF Bug Spray.
I really liked this PoV, one of the things I liked the most was that you refrained from zooming in, far too many pov's do that and it ruins it because these rides weren't designed for eyes which can zoom
I learned in a behind the scenes special that the smell is actually a chlorine alternative that's used so you don't get that nasty chlorine smell but the water stays clean.. I'm guessing they never knew it would become such a beloved part of the ride!
Still the greatest Disney attraction! I remember when I first rode this ride at DisneyWorld, when I was 3 years old, back in 1977. I remember thinking that the cannonballs and fire were real; it was a weird sensation of being scared to death but feeling safe inside the boat. I was finally able to ride Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland in 2005. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Pirates at Disneyland is actually a few minutes longer and has more 'scenes' and backdrops than Pirates at DisneyWorld. Of course, by 2005, I figured out that the cannonballs were not real, but I thought that at least the fire, during the pirates sacking of the town, still was. Turns out the fire involves cellophane (or aluminum foil) and the reflection of red light; sorry to spoil it for you if you didn't know already.

Jason Meadows we would have been there at the same times. I’m 44 now and I recall going with my parents when I was a baby. Lol. Cheers
Best video I've ever seen of this amazing ride. Thank you for your wonderful work. We were heartbroken that POTC is closed while we're here so this is all we have. 🥴😭❤
Out of all the videos out there that features this ride, this version is the BEST one I've seen before all the major life changes and to the ride, since the original. When it comes to judging and critiquing the ride layout, myself being a huge P.O.T.C franchise and an even bigger fan of the main five highlighted pirate characters that are featured in this version. Noticing esp. if you listen closely you can hear all of them. Captians:Jack, Barbosa, if you consider it as you the spanish vocals being captain Salazar, Davey Jones(waterfall mist)(5 stars), & at the very last moment before this video ends a tiny voice part to Captain Black beard addressing thr farewell. Thanks for uploading this! These ride POVs really make me relax honestly. I miss Disneyland so much, I haven't been since 2013. I hope I can experience these rides again sometime once we are all safe and healthy. I also recognized that undertale music at the end! My favorite game :)
I agree. I don't think this attraction will ever be topped in terms of atmosphere and environmental storytelling. I grew up going to Walt Disney World and while I like their Pirates, I finally got to experience this original one and it's far superior. Just imagine how mind blowing this was when it opened in 1967. Think about what else existed at the time, and it still holds up even to this day. Masterpiece.
A beautiful ride, atmospheric, creepy. Also disturbing. The rides based on the films have supernatural elements and fantastical set pieces with sea monsters and ships rising from the depths with undead crews. These older versions are just kind of about, you know, historical piracy. Pillaging. Plundering. Killing. Torturing. Burning down towns and ports. Selling young women like cattle. Those pirates in the cell trying to get the keys from the dog-they’re clearly going to burn to death. I never noticed that everything is engulfed in flames. Wow. Horrific. The battle between the galleon and the fortress is like floating into a living painting by a Dutch master. It’s magnificent and nightmarish. In fact, the fire and burning embers and mayhem remind me of Bosch’s depictions of hell. Anyway, I’m glad people like you have documented these older rides for people to enjoy. This was a real nostalgic treat. Thank you.
A new Disney park replica of Disneyland needs to be built in Texas or Utah, an area that will be free from tyranny so we can enjoy it for years to come. Newsome is a pirate
Never knew how much longer the Disneyland version is. Way longer than the Disney World ride. Just went to Disney World with our son a week ago. He absolutely loved this
Love the fireflies. best time I had on this ride was this time my brother's family and I got to ride this all by ourselves near closing. That was kick ass.
they had them once! right after the release of on stranger tides there was a mermaid effect added there. however they took it out because it usually didn’t work, and part of it was a projection and sometimes you would see the error screen 😂
I do not like rides much so I would often wait for my friends and family at the end of the rides. This one was my favorite one to wait on. The bayou at the beginning is so beautiful, I didn't mind waiting there for over an hour a few times.
I remember as a small child (early 70's) thinking the gunshots and fire were real and we were all gonna die. My father held me, reassuring me that it was "all just make-believe". A fond memory on this Fathers Day. I also remember a couple decades later, getting stuck on this ride right between the ship and fort battle for 40 minutes while the house lights came up and technicians came on set trying to fix things. It lost its magic in bright lights. But they gave us a all a handful of fastpasses to other rides when we finally disembarked, so I guess it pays to get stuck once in a while. 😄
Top notch! I’ve probably watched this video 100 times over the past few years-it’s impeccable when compare to any similar video. Can I ask what camera you used? I’m a novice photographer looking to try some low light shots. Cheers!
this is a heck of an upgrade from the version i rode in orlando in the 80s. same spirit tho and the pirates chasing the wenches is as i remember. if only they would bring back mr toad now...
Growing up in LA I was lucky enough to experience the ORIGINAL version of this ride. The one WITH the LARGE drop (Before parents in the 90's complained it was "too scary" of a drop for their kids), the one WITH the large ship battle just past the Bayou at the beginning, the one where the pirates were chasing the women in town (Before people claimed that was sexist, so they changed it to chasing chickens) and most importantly, the one with NO reference to Johnny Depp. This is a great quality vid though, thanks.
I don't remember a bigger drop, either. It seems like an odd change for Disney to have made, or for parents to have complained about, especially since more recent amusement park rides, at Disney and elsewhere, seem to have no issue with drops, twists, and turns, etc.
I always like to joke to my kids about the auto animatronic robots in the restaurant across the water. They look so real, along with the waiters and musicians. Nearly got 'em the first time I tried it !
Man the utter chaos and degeneracy of this ride is what I love the most about it. It's this one and Indiana Jones have consistently been my favorite for the last 30 years.
i went to disney with my cousin over this last fall break and got stuck on pirates for the first time! it was towards the end though, right past the jail scene but right before the final scene where they’re all drunk and shooting at each other, so there wasn’t much to see. still super cool though!
I don't really like to go on this ride because I'm not a huge fan of hills, but this is still one of my favorite rides at Disney. The theme, music and atmosphere in general are superb, and visually, it's stunning. :D
I love all your Disney park videos..Disney should pay you for drawing business for them lol my personal story of Pirates Of The Caribbean ride... when I was 7 my dad told me there were alligators in the water on the ride.. so I never touched the water out of fear I'd get my hand bit off lol! I'm 42... still think there might be alligators in the water.. so everyone look out!
I’ve never been on this ride. When I was little I watched a video tape that had the Pirates of the Caribbean ride on it. At the very end the Pirates broke out into a gun battle and there was an explosion and I was always afraid as a little kid that it was going to explode with us in there so we never rode it. I haven’t been since I was 6 so I’m going back 30years later and I’m riding this.
I'm happy I got to ride on the rides at Disneyland before the whole corona virus crap and before my mom died. We got to ride it just like when I was little and living in Southern California.
I've only been on the Cali version once, and I forgot how superior it is to Magic Kingdom's. Wow! Disney really cut costs on building the Florida version. I would place this version as a tie for second with the Paris version, with Shanghai being the new best.
If I recall it wasn’t so much that they cut costs in Orlando so much as they didn’t plan on having Pirates there at all. Imagineers designing Walt Disney World made the assumption that pirates in Florida wouldn’t seem exotic, since pirates actually operated there historically, so they were planning other attractions for WDW’s Adventureland. Problem is, when they opened the park in 1971, one of the most asked questions/complaints by people visiting the park was, “Where is Pirates of the Caribbean?” so suddenly the imagineers had to scramble to find a spot to build a WDW version without the kind of space that the California version was afforded, so they ended up cutting bits out and opened it in 1974.

Yes, that and that wonderful Blue Bayou restaurant food!

One of my favorite parts of this ride is the talking skull in the beginning. It really sets the mood of the ride and is also kind of mysterious.

They should really add mermaids to the cavern scene, by the waterfall and stuff. It's perfect =D
Nico where did you find the profile pic
they had them once! right after the release of on stranger tides there was a mermaid effect added there. however they took it out because it usually didn’t work, and part of it was a projection and sometimes you would see the error screen 😂

they should add selena popping up t your boat to warn you and smile. shes my girl.

One of the few times I don't mind waiting in line.

Angela marchese Because it’s one of the best attractions and the line moves incredibly fast.
Because that and it has one of the better line atmospheres and soundtracks to go along with it.

The one WITH the LARGE drop (Before parents in the 90's complained it was "too scary" of a drop for their kids), the one WITH the large ship battle just past the Bayou at the beginning, the one where the pirates were chasing the women in town (Before people claimed that was sexist, so they changed it to chasing chickens) and most importantly, the one with NO reference to Johnny Depp.

i went to disney with my cousin over this last fall break and got stuck on pirates for the first time! it was towards the end though, right past the jail scene but right before the final scene where they’re all drunk and shooting at each other, so there wasn’t much to see. still super cool though!
i rode this a few times when i was really young. i remember being SO FREAKING UNPREPARED for the drop i tried to get out of my seat
the drops seemed mild, was there always 2 of them? I've only ridden the Disneyland version.
far better than the 2013 version.
So many memories :)
I subscribed to u
+Smackdown Snow thanks!
+That Disneyland Freak your welcome
Noob Saibot I wish RUclips had more of people like you:)
As I was watching this I smelled it like I was there.
I don't really like to go on this ride because I'm not a huge fan of hills, but this is still one of my favorite rides at Disney. The theme, music and atmosphere in general are superb, and visually, it's stunning. :D
Hills?

Y'know, like, when a ride drops suddenly? I've never been a big fan of that.... :')
I'd love to see some videos on the actual construction of some of these rides.
Nice start. 0:07+ "When your boat stops..."
That honestly sounds like my dad! He would tell me that there were snakes in certain grass and I couldn't step in it or else they'll get me! Lol
If I may inquire, what camera or app did you use to record this, it is magnificent. Just subscribed.
This video came out nice . Bravo
RIP "We wants the red head!"
RIP David Jones waterfall
BEST. RIDE. EVER.
I remember getting stuck in that same spot when I was a kid on that ride. The dog whistling drove me crazy
I remember going onto Pirates back in 2010 or so and the line was never long. And I loved it. I wonder what is making it so popular now?
Great video, great memories .... pre Johnny Depp 👍
I’ve never been on this ride. When I was little I watched a video tape that had the Pirates of the Caribbean ride on it. At the very end the Pirates broke out into a gun battle and there was an explosion and I was always afraid as a little kid that it was going to explode with us in there so we never rode it. I haven’t been since I was 6 so I’m going back 30years later and I’m riding this.
let us know!
Want to see this version some day. I've only ridden The Magic Kingdom's version and it is missing a lot.
Never been on the MK version I've only been on the Disneyland version
I can smell this video and the memory is glorious
I'm happy I got to ride on the rides at Disneyland before the whole corona virus crap and before my mom died. We got to ride it just like when I was little and living in Southern California.
This ride is the bomb
Tokyo also has this version (I went to Magic Kingdom once in mid 90s, and was rather disappointed in their Pirates)
Thanks needed that, haven't been there since 1986.
This made me feel like I was there!😊💓
