Lord Muck They are pretty bomb proof so I’m told if they are maintained correctly especially correct oil in the transmission and calibrating the clutch packs regularly. I’m a John Deere man at heart and it was the 8630 that opened my eyes to other tractors were lovely to operate. I’d buy one too if I could find one!!
It's like anything Andrew, if you wipe auxiliary probes on implements and trailers, change the oils on a regular basis, they normally last far longer than the abused ones.
Brilliant again, especially the old ones for me, living on the Maltese islands I miss the ploughing matches & country shows. I remember the first Majors often had a P6 Perkins fitted & I could often just listen on arrival at an event to find out if one was running, even a couple of fields away. I can remember my first sight of a Massey 65, it was new & towing an Autoblast tree sprayer which was huge & had ex aircraft wheel & tyres. I was lucky enough to drive a 1961 65 back in 1999 for a day. Keep up the good work & be lucky.
Thanks for the video, the 8830's a sharp tractor and didn't disappoint from the preview. That was cool getting up close to the doe's as well. All the years I lived in the U.K and visited shows I never saw one in person, I guess in those days they were still real rare and sitting in barns and out the back . An old friend of mine worked for Roy Rees tractors in wales they pulled quite a few 5000 Does apart and converted them back to 2wd for export in the 80's, They scrapped the turn tables when they were done !!!!!!!!!! . When I got my first 954 county I was talking to a parts guy here in Canada, the mechanic listening piped up and said thats not one of those Fordsons thats 2 joined together is it. I kinda subtly quizzed him, and he described what he had seen in a local town. It was one of the few that came to Canada, I believe a collector in the states has it now from comments on a forum of one down there that came from Manitoba . I hope you have a good week to, catch ya next time.
Cool video. I like the big ford she seems a beast. It good to learn all about fords history and how thay changed the way farming has come along And nice jcb hoody as well.
Nice video chap, the powershift box on the 30 series was a massive jump forward for ford from that old crash box of the TW, turned a good tractor range into a great one in my opinion.
One big problem with the TW's was that a lot of folks couldn't get their heads round the constant mesh box on the road. I never had any issues and could go up and down the box all day without crunching it.
Great video Lord -top pov footage -love that big old 8830 Ford not Ford lover myself ( more jd / case ) but does look nice bit kit -'liked the info also 👍👍
Only just got enough signal to watch this now. Thanks for sharing looks like it was a good day. I think I will have to have a look at one if there is anything local would be good to see the old stuff being put to work. Thanks.
Another good video as I told you before I finished with tractors in1990 but this takes me back to going to bore ham in early1990 and seeing these for the first time. Another thing in 1972 we sold the last 5000 select o speed to a farmer by Welshpool who went on later to build Welshpool airport unfortunately he got killed in aviation accident a few years ago a very nice man
Great video! Love seeing old ford farm equipment I’m American and my grandfather had a open station 7600 and also a 7700 that he sold for a 8240 with fwa and a loader. He still has the 7600 and the 8240 but doesn’t farm very much any more like he did when I was growing up.
I am a Ford an fodson fan , I recently bought a 8830 , a great classic tractor , with only 6800 hours on the clock ,in very good condition , rare to find one ,like the TW 35 ......👍👍👍😉😉😉🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪🇧🇪
As a fist time viewer, I got to your channel through Wess Pandy, at onelonleyfarmer, on you tube. We farmed with Ford back in the time. Largest tractor was a Ford Golden Jubilee. We had only 100 acres back then, and also had a 8N Ford. We were big farmers! Thanks for your videos. Central Indiana, USA
Cracking vid as always. I worked a deere 7710 with flail in and around brigg back in 03, on contract to the environment agency. Cant beat a ford though.
Nice range of Fords there,. In 1990-91 on visiting family back in Bucks, I drove a Ford 7610 tractor, quite an experience, the relatives called it the "Pressure Cooker" because you got so hot driving it in the fields,.....Funny lot my family...lol
The TW's were the worst Tigerspook, worse than the 7610's. The Turbo under the bonnet would cook you from the front while the hot oil in the back end would cook you from the rear !
My goodness I've never seen tractor's that big,Talk about workhorse's lol That was Cool as heck.. Well enjoy your weekend what's left of it,Great Video Sir, Take Care..
Great video, as usual I must add. As much of a Fordson fan as I am, I must say the 8830 stole the show. Seems strange to me being from Michigan and very few big Fords around us. Nice to see such a fine example of Ford's muscle. Mostly Green or Red tractors around these parts. Thanks for giving us a good show. Definitely looking forward to the close up show of the Doe. Be Blessed!
Yes I've always noticed that Ford never had a massive stronghold in the States. However, there are a good few these days (New Hollands) in upstate New York.
From what I understand, much in the same way he did with the Model T, Henry flooded Michigan with the model F. Although a cantankerous beast to start when hot, it was quite well received in these parts. The 9N, 2N and 8N were sold in MASS quantities around here. Nearly every small farm with twenty or so head of dairy stock had one or two on it. Much larger than that and you needed to step up to a Farmall or a Deere. The little Fords simply couldn't hang with the likes of the Farmall M or Deere's A or G. I occasionally will see a big Ford or New Holland as I travel about the countryside here in Southern Michigan, but they are few and far between. I figure they must have either had a really reliable dealer in the area or are just die-hard Ford fans. Even though Deere has eliminated most of the small dealerships, they still out number Case-International dealers by roughly three to one. We had representation from many other colors of the rainbow as well, but those three were by far our region's most popular breeds. Thanks again for the GREAT content! Be Blessed!
I think that's a really good description of how Ford flooded the market but then never really followed up your side of the pond. Glad you enjoyed the vid !
Oh, OK Theres's another tractor foreign to US that's a lot like Deere. Saw one years ago at a dealer lot. Hell of a lot like Deere, but another name. I thought it was Chamberlain, but I guess not. Thanks, I'll think on this.....
John Deere bought an interest in Chamberlain back in the 70's but they designed and built their own tractors using various power plants including Detroits ! Have a google, I'm sure you'll like them !
Good video Kurt....you know it's an 'age' thing, your liking for these 'modern' tractors. That's why I like the old ones....before my time. Late 50s when I first started 'work' i.e. playing on the farm. Took every chance I could as a kid of course to have a drive. Think the Power Major had 2000 hours on it......just to let you know the period. And yes I should have taken a walk up to your end of the field. Also, I've heard the new Does are in fact newly made ones, not restored originals.
ahh super major......greetings from germany thx for the clarification with the gears from TW series to 88´s. i missed this all as i went in late 80´s from being a Ford mechanic. We always missed the 40km/h drive and i think they get it with the fusiion with new holland. perhaps i should look for such a nice old 8830 ;-) hahaha nice toy.
That would be great to participate in, I have only been to one ploughing day here in Bundaberg, we don't seem to have near as many as you do over there.
Top video Look forward the next one Ive always wanted to know how they split the power with them duel unit tractors its not like a 4x4 with central diffs
Ahhh real tractors none of this touch button stuff a good old cronchy gearbox lol ones where you can get a spanner from the tool box and work on it yourself no ringing and some guy turning up with a laptop lol Another great video
Nice one LM, ..was that the same Muir Hill as in the previous vid? I can only agree with you on the Ford Powershift transmission, .......I only had a brief spin on one but was almost thinking I'd died and gone to heaven. Take care and keep you a troshin.
Do you know Mark I had to watch the big Massey vid to check if it was but no, this was an earlier 121 but saying that, there were two others there in the static line on the day and was was a later type so it might have been there ! Do Well.
That 8830 is looks thrashy as hell. Spending more time at working days than at work! :) thanks for sharing. Nice hoodie, where did you get it? Think we can get a 'bloody good shot sir', 'plenty in the tank' and a 'be seeing you' in your next vid? Good old boy. Stay safe, be seeing you...
Good video Muck, 30 series were great in their day & still are, the Funk transmissions were a great introduction to the series unless they needed a rebuild, then you were looking at remortgaging your house, selling your mother in law & renting out the Mrs & Kids, It's a toss up whether the 30 series transmission outweighed the TW big levers that went clunk & you knew it was in gear, personally I prefer the big levers that went clunk, just on the price of rebuilding the Funk, TW's were a great tool, talking of tools have you heard from Alain today?
Rebuild on the Funk used to be around 7-10 grand depending on what needed doing but at least you then had a functioning tractor again for several years so not that bad in the grand scheme of things. I was sent a picture today of a crappy old car upside down in the hedge and it made me think that Alain may have been for a drive out somewhere...
Lord Muck did a couple on 30's, the more memorable one was on a 8970 (it's a long time ago) it was borderline being as cheap to get an exchange box from NH, problem was NH didn't have any & it was 3 or 4 month delivery time.... It ended up being rebuilt, can't remember the price but it wasn't exactly cheap.
It's really a funny development because that transmission was just so user friendly and the cab was behind the times at least compared with case magnum. When they finally caught up with the geniuses series they really did it right. Have you done any videos on the john deere transmission that would be comparable in power?
I ran a doe 130 as a kid it gave you strong arms but there wasn't any place that would grow a crop that you couldn't go with a 7 bottom semi-mount Mount Plow. Our family still owns the doe 130 to this day.
Did you know that Ford had the first power shift trans . The guy got sick and didn't want it put out to be sold so John Deere came up with the same idea and moved toward with it. Will say that's the first Ford I seen like that. Would love to have it for a day 11th
Lord Muck ya they were on the 806 ford I think could be wrong on the number think it was 8×8 it was on the center console right below the steering wheel
If I remember right it was guy that designed the select-o-speed (jerk-o-matic) that left ford and went to work for funk which was eventually bought out by JD
Great video..i wanted some one to explain it for me...so can ye change the gears without having to put your foot your foot near the clutch? Would it suit someone in a wheelchair???thanks for sharing...
Martin, I think it completely possible to make the inching pedal as a hand held control (maybe like the brake lever on a bike etc) then the gears are all Powershift so yes I would think it possible with a bit of work.
@@LordMuck thanks for replying... Thanks for the info they look a really nice tractor that wouldn't cost the world to buy...when would you need to be using the inching pedal?would holding break pedal and letting it on off as needed do same thing?do the 40 series have the same set up?changing gears without clutch..??
Martin when starting off its best to use the inching pedal or when hooking on to things. 40 series had a dump button on later models which could act in a similar way. Brakes could also be set up to work off a hand grip with a bit of work. It's all possible, you just need to look at what suits you best. Personally I would say you need to go a check a few out.
@@LordMuck thanks for your info it's very helpful...i really appreciate it. I've been looking for videos on how these things work and it's not easy to find so I really am very thankful for you taking the time to reply to me..love to see a video of a 7740 with that dump button your on about ..do ye have any lol?🤣
Yes it was, not many were sold here in the UK but a few went abroad. Several Powershifts had TW straight boxes put in them after the Powershift went wrong.
I loved driving the 30 series with the funk powershift box spent 2 years driving an 8630 great tractor 😀😀
I quite fancy buying an 8630.
Lord Muck They are pretty bomb proof so I’m told if they are maintained correctly especially correct oil in the transmission and calibrating the clutch packs regularly. It's like anything Andrew, if you wipe auxiliary probes on implements and trailers, change the oils on a regular basis, they normally last far longer than the abused ones.
Lord Muck like everything a little bit of a thought and care goes a very long way 😉
I really enjoyed this video! Thanks for sharing Kurt!
I knew you'd like this one Clint !

Those dual engine tractors (or two tractors made into one) were an amazing engineering feat. They were fun to watch work.
We will be having an in-depth look at the engineering involved soon David.
Thanks for the video, the 8830's a sharp tractor and didn't disappoint from the preview. That was cool getting up close to the doe's as well. Charlie Atkins split countless Does up over the years and shipped them abroad to Africa etc.
Glad you enjoyed it.
When men were men and tractors were FORD 👍😀
Thanks for the explanation on the Powershift box, never driven one so would have never known about that.
Nice enough to use.
Bit nicer than the old column shift 8 speed unit on my little 4610!
Proper box !

I'm going to have a little drinkey poos tonight in memory of Jim Lahey.
Enjoyed that, love the old Fords. I look forward to the Doe's, always wondered how they control the front unit
I'm going to do a walk round and overview of the Doe's soon Gareth, so stay tuned !

Wasn't in it long enough to experience the heat thing, I'm sure it didn't air-con lol, the TW's sound delightful..
Loving this content you very knowledgeable on these machines.
Cheers Aaron I do what I can and others add stuff as we go along so there's plenty to learn and join in with.

Great vid 8830 sounds nice
Even better when they're really working hard.
Lovely video, Kurt. We've not had much experience with Ford's here except an FW-30 we had for a few years.
The FW range were the next thing up after the TW's.
Nice old Ford's. Still miss my uncle's Fordson super major 5000 everyday
That 8830 is in mint condition. Old school power
Love those old fords while not having the SG2 cab or Fendts road speed pure power.
Yes they are a nice old bus and the cabs were good in the day too.
Not having the Fendt's road speed means they are also legal...!
I still use my 8830 and love every minute of driving it !
The 8830 lovley tractor drove one for a while. 10 series good also now retired got 7610.
Enjoying your videos thanks
Pleasure, glad you like them.
Thanks for posting, Curt. Lookin' forward to those Does vids. Seen it done with Deeres here but still haven't seen the mechanicals up close.
I've seen some pics and vid with Chamberlains like that.
Is Chamberlain same as JD in Aus?
57fitter chamberlain as in chamberlain ! The orange tractors in Oz
Oh, OK Theres's another tractor foreign to US that's a lot like Deere. Saw one years ago at a dealer lot. Hell of a lot like Deere, but another name. I thought it was Chamberlain, but I guess not. Thanks, I'll think on this.....

The one with the cab is a remanufactured example, the rest are original.
Yes....
What a wonderful transmission they made in 80's by Funk.
Another excellent video. One tractor I'd love to see working : Fiat 180 90DT. Saw one a Cambridge sale years ago but that's all.
Haha ! You and me both Mark ! I watched one working over in Belgium last year.
Nice video , great tractors ; LIKE!!! Greets Stefan
Thank you Stefan !
ahh super major......greetings from germany
thx for the clarification with the gears from TW series to 88´s. i missed this all as i went in late 80´s from being a Ford mechanic. We always missed the 40km/h drive and i think they get it with the fusiion with new holland. perhaps i should look for such a nice old 8830 ;-) hahaha nice toy.
That 8830 is sweet, that muir was nice as well. Thanks for the vid Lord Muck.
Glad you enjoyed it, the Muir-Hill sounded really well.
Nice vid
Served me time on a qcab 6600'7600. And a 7610 . They were big tractors at the time . And trouble free except for the foot throttle would brake.😕😀😁😂
Good machines in their day Mickey, I'd love a 7610 when I've finished the 3350.
Would be nice to see one done up.
It's a nice one next to the silver 78 near the beginning of this vid.
We had a Roadless 95t as are big tractor then we had a same saturno 80 and then a massey 175 with a loader on it
Love those Doe's
That would be great to participate in, I have only been to one ploughing day here in Bundaberg, we don't seem to have near as many as you do over there.
I must admit that I've never been to so many in one season !
Top video
Look forward the next one
Ive always wanted to know how they split the power with them duel unit tractors its not like a 4x4 with central diffs
In the next few weeks John we will go and look at one in detail.
It's great to see those Does in their working clothes. It would be criminal to tart them up IMO but fair play for the other restorations.
It's sometimes not a choice you have if something needs a lot of work.
Other tractors just need an oil change and a bit of grease !
Bit side note -used go watching tractor pulls up at gt ecclestone nr Blackpool n fav tractor was a jd called jbj express loved it was top tractor imo
JbJ Express was a famous puller in its day.
Ahhh real tractors none of this touch button stuff a good old cronchy gearbox lol ones where you can get a spanner from the tool box and work on it yourself no ringing and some guy turning up with a laptop lol Another great video
It was the eve of an era Bobinski, it was the start of laptops and replacing components rather than rebuilding.
Nice one LM, ..was that the same Muir Hill as in the previous vid?
I can only agree with you on the Ford Powershift transmission, .......I only had a brief spin on one but was almost thinking I'd died and gone to heaven.
Take care and keep you a troshin.

Nice hoodie, where did you get it?
Think we can get a 'bloody good shot sir', 'plenty in the tank' and a 'be seeing you' in your next vid? Good old boy.
Stay safe, be seeing you...

top vid !
FORD SIMPLY THE BEST!!!
those old fords are for sure. a 6610 does all the pulling work on our farm.
Good vid as always muck
Thanks for your help in making it.
Good video Ford tractors for me were the best
They had their moments...!
Really like your channel
Hey Mike, that's very kind but you know how much I like your channel !
Bloomin ole Fods
Great video
FORD very very very best

I'm planning on looking at the Powershift in that 4755 just as soon as we get 5 minutes. Might be able to do that sometime in the New Year.
Late but 👌👍
interesting video Podge
Cheers Sean, glad you liked it !
how big of bottoms on that 8830 ?
As I remember either 14" or 16" furrows.
Must be a strange feeling driving a Doe? Once used to it, I’m sure they are spot on.
I ran a doe 130 as a kid it gave you strong arms but there wasn't any place that would grow a crop that you couldn't go with a 7 bottom semi-mount Mount Plow. Our family still owns the doe 130 to this day.

They also had the earlier 'Select-O-Speed' which nearly ruined them !
Lord Muck ya they were on the 806 ford I think could be wrong on the number think it was 8×8 it was on the center console right below the steering wheel
It was a goodish color tractor
Weren't they like a cream and blue colour ? We never had them here, that Select-O-Shit was under the steering wheel, yes that's right.
If I remember right it was guy that designed the select-o-speed (jerk-o-matic) that left ford and went to work for funk which was eventually bought out by JD
Nice video
Thank you Barry Norman
Anytime
Wish someone would build a COUNTY version of the 8830 .😐
What a tractor
So different to see plow without tail wheels and no roll cutters
Normally we only fit discs on grassland or heavy land. All reversible ploughs have depth wheels, just not stuck right out the back.
No but I'll see if I can point you in the right direction.
A show I would like to be at I am working on ford 4600 78 model no mechanic in my area no much about them
They're not difficult in the scheme of things Michael as long as you have a basic mechanical knowledge.
Lovely, L,M, 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Wasnt the 8830 available with duel power gear box aswell as powershift. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Yes it was, not many were sold here in the UK but a few went abroad. Several Powershifts had TW straight boxes put in them after the Powershift went wrong.
@@LordMuck thanks for clearing that up. I have one and wasn't sure. If somebody modified or it came that way. Tractor came from canada.
If it says Dual Power on the bonnet then it's factory. If it says Powershift then it's been converted.
@@LordMuck yes. It says duel power
@@LordMuck what do you mean by powershift going wrong?I'm curious what happened
Can I buy it
