I hope you enjoyed this adventure! It means so much to me that you spent the time watching it. If you enjoyed this, please consider subscribing. I strive to bring relatively unknown, odd, unique, and special places to you each week from the American Southwest!
---------------
👍How to be a respectful visitor to these places👍
Native American groups still live in this area and beyond today. These places are still special and hold significance.
1️⃣Don't climb on walls or structures. Don't lean on or climb over them. Many places don't even need to be visited up close. View these places from a distance or with binoculars.
2️⃣Do not touch the rock art. Don't touch or create new rock art to preserve ancient stories.
3️⃣ Leave All Artifacts. Leave artifacts and structures undisturbed to maintain their historical significance. It is illegal and wrong to take artifacts. If you want something to take home, support local tribes by buying their handicrafts and jewelry.
4️⃣ Manage Waste Responsibly. Use waste bags; don't leave human or pet waste behind. Don't 'go' near cultural sites.
5️⃣ Camp With Care. Don't camp near historical sites. No fires near these areas, and ensure all waste is packed out. Don't make fires in caves or alcoves. Camp in designated spots only. When you leave, make sure to make the site cleaner and better than when you found it. Pick up extra trash you may see.
6️⃣ Control Your Pets. Don't let pets roam freely near archaeological areas to prevent destruction. Pets are not allowed in or near sites.
7️⃣ Preserve Fragile Areas. Don't disturb fossils and please protect delicate soil and plant life.
8️⃣ Follow Rules. Don't engage in illegal actions such as building cairns, or using climbing gear to access archaeological sites.
9️⃣ Obey Drone Rules and Laws. Numerous locations in the American Southwest and beyond, such as the Navajo Reservation, Wilderness Study Areas, and various restricted spaces, enforce strict drone usage prohibitions. It is crucial to not only honor the legacy of the people who once inhabited these areas but also show respect for the present-day residents and adhere to their local laws, customs and regulations.
---------------
NOTE: I don't claim that I am the first person to "discover" these places. I just find things on Google Earth and want to go see what they are!
I do not claim to be an expert on anthropology, geology, or archaeology. I say that my channel is about "amateur archaeology". I don't have a degree or formal training in archaeology. I am just a hiker who loves to explore and see new things especially the ancient history in the American Southwest. This is what my channel is about. I hope you stick around and explore with me!
I do not give out locations to the places in my videos. I take seriously the responsibility to protect and respect these ancient places. If you do find/visit one of these locations, please visit respectfully. I try my best to hide noticeable landmarks, mountains, and canyons in my videos.

Was I the only one who had trouble spotting the petroglyphs until he zoomed in real close? Great job spotting them for us. Another great trek, thank you for sharing.
*NOTE: @**7:15** or so the 3D quality of the video seems to improve significantly, maybe different camera?*
*Congratulations on upgrading to the new 4x4 truck!*
Me too!
I couldn't see any of them on my phone which is how I watch all the videos. Until he got the drone.
Here's a question.... did he send the drone out to scout, find them and went to see if he could hike to them then told us the drone footage was after his trek?
Not like I'm saying he fakes his videos, but creative editing to tell the story is not a bad thing.
Plus he never said he doesn't have binoculars.
Nah, I did too. I couldn't see any until he got to the base of that vertical wall, even though he'd used arrows a couple times, I couldn't see them. There were several places where he mentioned the art but didn't use arrows too, just thought it was my eyesight, haha.
I was thinking those grooves and ovals beneath those 4 big anthropomorphic figures at the end there, 2 obviously males (the other 2 females?), could be for foot holds as the artists 🎨 used long feathered or stick branches to paint the figures. Or to hold their ochre paint. And that long straight line thru them was used to align their heads, their figures.
Awesome video, Jeff, as always!! Keep trekking! ❤
Your 3D modelling is a superb contribution to the historical record of these sights and should be recognised and applauded by academia. Nothing is forever and at sometime these sights will crumble and be gone, but your models can preserve them for the future.
He didn't model anything though, he used a drone to survey and capture footage. He then illustrated some images with lines to emphasize the pictographs.
Those petroglyphs only viewable from above are the big mystery. I enjoyed the bird shadow passing through as you were showing them. You can't plan those magical moments.
A riddle to me, for sure.
@@bethbartlett5692 Petroglyphs facing straight up might have been a form of worship or of making requests to their god? It's a mystery.
I have seen many petrogliphs facing upward. Not that big of a deal

Petroglyphs Suspended 40 Feet High in the Sky? The scratches of people and animals are the doorways a thousand years old/ For me, Jeff, it's as if you discover life where there is none.. As I eat my morning granola and yogurt, I'm right there with you, old as the stone. Your YT adventures REDISCOVER parts of our past under the face of the cliff, in the shade of that tree. Thanks again 👍
Love your channel.
Thanks for a new trip. I really appreciate the reverence you treat all these sites.
You and your sweet baby face. I love your videos, Jeff. Thanks for letting me wander with you. Please keep wandering!
Thank you, Robbie! 😊
If you're on Bureau of Land Management owned lands, free camping is allowed for a maximum of 14 days. Same in most national forests (some limit you to 7 days like Prescott NF). Main rule is to use an established campsite, usually if there is a stone fire ring it is considered an "established" campsite. My favorite campsites have been on forest service roads and beyond gates on B L M lands. Just gotta remember to close the gate after you drive thru. Oh wow, kayak camping along a river! Yes please! ❤ Awesome find on the petroglyphs. Your videos never disappoint! 😊
Yea but it might be Walt and Jessie... cooking somethin' up.
That's not true every where.
The established campsites are along roads. Camping is allowed throughout the forests or BLM lands, you can hike in there and camp. We do it all the time on hunting trips.
Thank you for sharing about BLM camping rules! I always try and find a good spot for camping on BLM as it’s usually free or at least very cheap.
Varies by municipality now. After COVID, there were too many campers trashing BLM. A lot of places were and are still closed in the Verde Valley, Sedona and surrounding area.
Hey Jeff! Being an artist, I can tell you from experience that for the most artists do everything for a reason. The sheep all facing the middle panel was deliberate. What it means I have no idea. But I do know it was definitely deliberate. You are one hell of an armature anthropologist, I appreciate you documenting the lost history of North America, thank you!
Everything has reason.
Balance. Framing. It’s the way the human brain works. Definitely deliberate, and shows the belief that humans are the focus/center of the natural world.
Best analysis of panels of any of your posts. Green enhancement was very helpful, insightful and accurate I think.
I like that you're building a library of 3d models of these sites. Great way to document them as they are right now.
You always make us smile and laugh., such a great sense of humor.
And always great finds!
Thanks so much!
Yay! New trek planner!
I hope you enjoy it! :-)
@@TheTrekPlanneryou haven't let us down yet.
What a great adventure again. Remembering that the geographic area was so different 100s of years ago. That could explain why the petroglyph are up so high. 🤔 😊
You are doing such an awesome job saving these images for future explorers. Thanks Jeff 😊❤
Thank you for preserving these ancient images for future generations to enjoy .
Thank you . I just subscribed. I appreciate all your hard work you do .
Wow - so cool! Have you seen other petroglyphs that face up like that? It does make one wonder. Also about how the heck they got up there, carrying whatever tools & paint they needed.
Thanks for the adventure!
Another awesome so video!! Thx for sharing. I agree never approach strangers out in the boonies nowadays!!! 👍👍❤️
Thank you (and your drone) for allowing us to see these incredible petroglyphs. Every week you give us another lesson in the history of the prior inhabitants of these beautiful canyons and deserts. I’m so grateful for getting to see your treks.
Thanks again for another fun trek…
Glad you enjoyed it!
Good questions. Grinding surfaces can also be used to grind pigments.
Yeah, And that makes sense given the location of the grinding surfaces
That was beautiful including the music, very enjoyable!👍👍👍
I am so glad you show us all the wonderful pictographs that you find. I am also thankful that you do it safely and respectfully.
jeff, me and my old bones appreciate your adventures. thank you
Very good video, imparting a sense of exploration and discovery . The music for this video was also really enjoyable. Thank you!
"None of your business!" Super funny, especially being said by a super nice guy.
It has to be an incredible feeling when you come upon a panel of rock art or petroglyphs that you weren’t expecting to see! Thank you for your hard work and dedication, and for sharing it with us. Stay safe out there Jeff!
Jeff, your camera subject absolutely floods the visual field.
Unique and delightful.
Thanks for that.
I think it’s a warning to would be attackers: “Stay away because we have big wieners.”
😂😂😂
yep. also a thank you to the gods for the special gift....
Is that the purpose of your username? 😉
Is that the Wiener Dude attitude?
..and we're not scared to wrap them in buns and add mustard and ketchup to them!
Thank you, Jeff! Mysteries abound.
Another great trek. Please keep trekking and even more often with your posts.
Keep on trekking, Chuck! Thanks for watching!
You are amazing! Fantastic how you find these places! I love our hikes.
Incredible as usual, Jeff. Thank you for taking us along!❤
Jeff that was a fantastic idea that you found
This app for enhancing many of your pictures of these petroglyphs.
He's probably using DStretch to enhance the petroglyph and especially the pictographs.
It is iDstretch! Great app
Love all watching all your trips! So beautiful and so many discoveries. Thank you for sharing.
Thanks!
Awfully kind of you!

That was another anthropomorphic adventure, thank you for sharing these amazing discoveries.
Hail Rock Artists 👨🏼🎨 ❤❤❤❤
Amazing! You never disappoint with your sharing!
This episode was fascinating. Discovering that the big horn sheep petroglyph panels were oriented from right to left towards the center panel was incredible! Thank you for sharing your great work on this.
Thx for another intrestung and awesome video❤
Best gig on you tube….keep rocking
The bird shadow flying by was cool.
Wow nice place. Huge area they did work on. Nice job. Beautiful place.

Thanks Brandon! Great to see you again!
Another great trip.. thanks for taking us along! ❤
Jeff, as always great find. Your the best. Thank you for another fantastic adventure 😊.
Exceptional share. Thank you
Those folks had ladders for sure. Those carved marks are to set the ladders... This, again, is a remarkable and very entertainment presentation! Thank you so much
Enjoy all the adventures you take us on
Excellent observations. Figures as central panel and all sheep facing towards figures. Its very curious that the areas underneath the figures, the grinding areas are one for each figure with a foot hold below. Wow! Very unique. Almost seems like it could be a memorial for the four figures pictured a tribute as such.
Thanks for the enjoyable video. It’s important to record what you find before it disappears. Thanks again.
Feel the same. Thanks for watching!
Very interesting! Thank you for sharing your experience!
Wow, that’s so interesting….it’s so beautiful and peaceful there..❤
The San Juan river between Bluff and Mexican Hat. Wonderful place.
Maybe.
I’m blown away at the gems you find. I can’t even imagine how beautiful they are to see with your eyes.
Keep on them adventures and we will keep on watching!!
Thank you for another wonderful trek!
Thanks Jeff. Another cool adventure.
Another great production❤❤
Very cool! Thanks for filming that.
Absolutely fascinating. Thank you ❤❤❤
Another amazing post! And I did have trouble seeing all of them so that's why I love that software you use. Really stellar drone footage again -- even the last leaving the cliff shots with all the very colorful trees and shrubs below. As always, thank you for taking all of us to this beautiful place since 99% of us will never be able to make it there. Love your enthusiasm/sense of wonder too and it is best to not disclose where you're at. Best, from Colorado!
Hung like a petroglyph
That was too cool. I loved that the critters' hooves were cloven. I can't remember if they were goats or deer, but that was really neat!
great job vicarious exploring is so fun with you
Sensei I really appreciate that you 3d keep the models
Another good one with useful observations. Thanks.
Oh, I love the birdsongs!!!
Probably my favorite part after the rock art!
Hi Jeff! I SO look forward to your fantastic adventures!😎🌵💙🇺🇸
You have very good eyesight! I couldn't see the petroglyphs until you took the drone footage. Very interesting images seem very faint. Wow, thanks ,Jeff!
I understand your concerns. But I go camping a lot, and I never use “designated” camping spots, and if someone randomly walked up my camp, they will be offered a cold drink and a breakfast burrito
Tell us where you’ll be next! That sounds delicious!
Fabulous, thank you!
Good morning Jeff, thanks for being there.
Great video. I enjoyed it! Thank you!
I have been watching your channel and that of Desert Drifter for several weeks now. I truly appreciate what you do. As an artist, when I look at the petroglyphs and pictographs you record, I see what I believe to be pretty clear signs of two things: 1. A creative urge. 2. A symbolic language (including maps). I'm not a linguist and have no idea how to interpret the language, but the consistency with which animals, figures, hash marks, lines, shapes, designs are depicted over and over again across the desert southwest cannot be coincidental. I don't believe they were only spiritual in nature. Those drawings had real meaning.
COOL THANKS!
As usual another great video Jeff, also glad to see you finally got a truck!
Thank you so much, another great episode
Fantastic discovery!
TY and God Bless!!!
Thank you, such a great trip ❤
Nice job ! Thank you !
Thanks for bringing us along again Jeff, amazing explore.
Good morning, Jeff!
Thank you Jeff! Enjoyed it immensely 🎉❤
I saw a trekker who found things up high, its odd! Could we have had a massive flood that washed the soil? I believe there are areas buried in mud and areas washed out in many places!
I wonder, because so many sites where these petroglyphs are very high up if it was from the days of the global flood, if indeed there was a flood that lasted quite a while, the people would have been doing art way up high, just because the could!!
Good visit.
I thoroughly enjoy every trip you take us on! Thanks Jeff! I have a brother named Jeff.❤
Thank you, Alena! Tell your brother Jeff that Jeff says “hi”! :-)
@@TheTrekPlanner I will, thank you.
Oh cool! I’ve been to Nenana a ton of times!! I used to live in Fairbanks and currently live in Kenai! Very interesting petroglyphs!! Keep up the great work!
My husband is a guide in Maine and out west for hiking and biking. It IS a lot of wrk but he loves it.
nice find jeff ty
You rock, bro. Awesome content. You remind me of my cousin from Bayfield. Kindred spirit. Keep on trekkin'. Nice Tundra, BTW.
JEFF! Interesting video! Thanks so much for showing these figures up close. I love this part of Utah. Watching from Tomball, TX!
Good stuff Jeff. Thankfully you used the drone, or i wouldn't have seen anything. These were probably the toughest ones to see of any of your videos I've seen. ( which is basically all of them)
Another excellent video!
Beautiful! You found some petroglyphs that I didn't see when I was there. Need to go back with the drone! I think they might have roped down from above.
To me the layout of these figures means it a good place to hunt as all the sheep from around come here. It’s a billboard for others to see. Advertising a great hunting place.
