To be honest, cars would be a bit bland if every car was a tuner car. They all look mostly the same and monotonous. Well what is wrong with that dodge ram in the beginning. It may not be fast but it looks unique
My first mod on my first car was a Flowmaster 40 Series with an exhaust tip I could fit my whole foot in. In my defense it was bought while the first Fast and the Furious was still considered the coolest movie, but I still cringe a bit thinking about my boy-racer high school days. At least I didn't put any stickers on it: NOS BREMBO TOYO GOODYEAR ALPINE ugh.
I saw one '06 Honda Civic Type R people were calling it a "ricer" but it was a tuner and looked good and sounded good so he owner was being teased by a "16 Shelby owner they were ONLEY teenagers so they were street racing the Honda crushed the poor ford this proved that all Hondas are not ricers #killthehondaricer
I respect ppl with hondas more than regular tuners bc they get so much hate for owning a civic, like it doesn't matter what it looks like, it matters what's under the hood and then judge, clear case of don't judge a book by its cover
Type R honda's are beast. It is just sad when regular hondas put type R stickers, or change the badge with a red honda symbol like the ones on type R's.
The MLG Meme Master Owning a Civic isn’t rice, a well tuned Civic with enough boost will smoke any V8 lol. Goes for most any 4 or 6 cylinder Japanese car. I’ll take a SR-20 vs V8 or RB25-26, or 2JZ against an LS or a Rotary Vs V8 🤙🏻
I love reading stories like this because you ricers always claim "I smoked this car and that car" but in the streets of Cali I've smoked all you ricer fart cans.
Instead of calling this Differences Between, it may be a bit more honest to call it 6 Things I Don't Like About Japanese Car Culture. With respect to modifying Japanese import cars to improve performance I agree, it's pretty easy to define "Tuner" as form driven by function. It's what American Hot Rod guys were doing 70 years ago, and Europeans were doing over a 100 years ago. "If it doesn't make the car go faster, it doesn't go on the car." The only difference being non-domestic cars get the "other" classification of Tuner. That being said, with car culture like Bosozoku, Onikyan, Dekotora, Itasha, etc, Japan sets the gold standard for form over function, but I sure as hell wouldn't identify that form of expression as Ricers. I think it's a mistake to judge that culture through our narrow Western prism. Although mass media and the internet are an incredibly powerful homogenizing force on culture, I don't think the term "Ricers" means the same thing for everyone just yet. Generationally speaking, in the 70s the word "Ricer" was still a derogatory term, but it was directed at anyone who modified and raced Japanese cars. I've been tuning and racing Japanese motorcycles and car's in California for over 40 years, and back then my 2stroke RD400 was a Rice Rocket, and I was called a Ricer for wrenching on super high strung Datsun 510s instead of Mustangs and Camaros. Eventually the term Tuner somewhat legitimized Japanese performance work, and the term Ricer shifted over to the poorly executed "all show and no go" fart can crowd. Personally, I think it's a shame that kids who genuinely appreciate Japanese car culture, and are starting to emulate that here in the West, are being painted with a broad brush as miss guided morons who don't understand cars. Look a little deeper and you'll find those crazy over the top stylized cars in Japan are all about rebellion against an oppressively conformist society. For some people, car's are about expression, and not competition. Not my cup of tea, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate it.
James: Though undeserved, thanks for the recognition. It pisses me off when someone so ill equipped thinks because they have 100K subscribers it gives them ample authority to pirate another country's cultural slang. "Ricers and Tuners" are American terms, not British, so what makes them think they have the credibility to define stuff they've only seen in Fast and Furious? According to Viral Vehicles all car owners are and have always been divided into two basic categories... *What The Fungus?* Egocentricity and arrogance has always been a prominent feature in European car culture, but holy carp, this video is straight up ignorance. Obviously no one on their writing staff has ever been to a low rider show, used a car as simple transportation, or understands a single bloody thing about Japanese, or American car culture. Viral Vehicles is in no position to speak intelligently on this subject, and the sad thing is, it's morons like these guys who redefine and destroy real culture to get attention on the internet. Sod off you wankers!
Fucking legend. lol Really well put "essay" man. Sums up my thoughts about modded car culture really well. It was odd realizing a while back how the Japanese build a car that makes themselves happy, while over here we seem to build a car to fit in with a group, to make OTHERS happy.
@Jake Watson lol he's defending them dude. I agree calling people ricers is pretty immature. I don't know why people hate them. They're just doing what they want to do and actually tuning a car is WAY more expensive than just making one look cool. And who doesn't want a cool car?
@@matthewriffle8959 Yes agreed. A lot of car guys are immature. I mean why do they love calling people ricers just because they modded their car with lower performance? I've seen people saying like: 'I feel sorry for people who owns and mod a v6 or ecoboost mustang' or 'Ew a V6, thats disgusting!'. I mean whats the matter with people owning a lower spec mustang? Like do you think everybody has the ability to afford a v8? A lot of the times people dont care much about their car performance, they just want their car to look good, and that makes them happy. I mean whats so great even if you own a v8? Honestly, even if next time I get to own a v6 or ecoboost mustang, Im actually afraid to tell it to my car community, because I would expect getting humilated for not owning a v8, and I would also get called a ricer if I modify it. And yeah, tuning a car is very expensive. So why would I invest so much money on a car when I could just spend it more on more useful stuff in my life.
Loads of tuner cars are made just for looks they’re called show cars, often times they do have engine mods but aren’t really meant to be driven day to day or around a track
Giancarlo C I’m fixing my 99 Accord coupe, I wanna put a few things on it for performance and at least a new speaker system at the most for it in terms of non useful shit
NFS champion coulson That’s completely false I can tell you if you want your car to corner better then you’re going to need downforce in the back to keep your back wheels from going out
@@1stappalachianmountainbrig193 it depends on how quick the car is the purpose of downforce is to keep the car smack on the ground whilst taking corners at high speeds to make sure the car has maximum traction and considering most front wheel drive cars are slow anyways having a wing on let's say a Corsa is only going to slow the car down and increase drag because a Corsa doesn't need any downforce at all you will only be considered as a ricer. So I'm not false at all u just didn't read my comment properly
0 Well civic is a good stock car, and also a good platform for modifications(lots of parts from different suppliers, light weight), well as for the modifications....You know what i mean
I believe not. RICE is Race Inspired Cosmetic Enhancements. So body kits, huge wings, canard aero on front bumper, splitters, fake air vents or hood scoops, front and rear tow eyes, "Racing wheels", fake brake calipers etc installed on a stock 1.4 Civic or Lancer. That is RICE Audio setups is a very different category in my opinion.
If those speakers have all been setup and configured for a certain end result then no. Im a car audio enthusiast. Used to sell car audio and now its just a small side hobby. Custom and/or complex audio systems are not rice. They are a separte element of tuning or perhaps a better word would be modding.
I personally think that if you want a car to go faster you should change the exhaust for a larger diameter one with much more flow. This includes the down pipe and cat. This is so you’re not hitting a brick wall with power after you put on a turbo or get a stage two tune. You also might want to get a much better intake so you can get more air and push out more exhaust especially if you plan on putting on some type of device like a supercharger or turbo. When you increase airflow with one of those methods you will also need better fuel injectors so you don’t run lean because of the amount of air you’re getting in. With aero it is what it is so do what you need to do to make your car more controllable or faster. Every car is different. Generally more downforce is better for something to be a fast street racer. Also get some light weight rims so your not spinning over 150lbs or weight to go forward. You might also lower the ride height for a lower center of gravity to increase the amount of g’s you can pull. If you want to go full on racer which at this point why tf not because you already did all of those other things you don’t need friends so you don’t need more than one seat and comfort hasn’t existed since you lowered your car and it started making more than 700 horses so get a light bucket seat and take out that unnecessary a/c system. You don’t really even need real glass just bust that out and put some plastic there. After that you probably need a new transmission to handle all of that extra power and maybe a torque converter if you really upped the power so do that and while you’re at it get a lighter carbon fiber drive shaft. After you’re done with that you can just take off the body panels and get some really expensive carbon fiber or Kevlar woven carbon fiber or some type of titanium and carbon composite material and make the body out of it. When you’re done with that get yourself a sponsor because now you’re a million in debt and in consoling because you heavily depressed that your wife left you to go and date that guy who drives the stock Ford Focus that’s not even the RS model because you won’t stop spending time with your favorite thing in the world. Little does she know now you’re in the positive and the meme about karins come about and you’re laughing at her because the world now knows that she’s the reason the meme came around that dumb cunt Karin. Damn I went too far into personal stuff there.
Tuning also makes the car so much more worth it. When you tune it to do something like drift, and then it drifts perfectly, it feels satisfying knowing all those hours spent on tuning payes off. Even if they where hell.
lol wings aren’t jus for RWD grip. It’s for grip on rear tires whether you car is FWD,AWD, or RWD. That would be like saying splitters are only for FWD cars.. no it’s for front tire grip
What is your opinion about ricers? Do you think that they are the scum of the car community or are you of the opinion that the car community would not be complete without them?
Never gave much thought to any of this stuff in 97 when I got my 97 NSX. Just thought Honda and Senna pretty much sorted it all out I just needed to add a few comptech parts and was done. Funny I was right people still think it's pretty special 25 year later.
I don’t consider ricers as every person who likes to design their car rather than have pure performance, I consider that show cars. Ricers are those who mod completely useless mods that are all around bad, as making a car fast and look good is extremely expensive. Show cars are cars built to show off, but don’t overdo the mods. Ricers put whatever they can get their hands on to look somewhat intimidating even though it does the complete opposite.

This was a good video but I disagree about the speaker systems part. I have a 3200 watt speaker system in my car and I don't use them to look cool, I use them to have a good music experience.
I think the point was more that you dont have to fill the trunk to achive that. spend your money on decent parts and do it properly. My sub box only takes up 10% of my trunk and is designed to match the what the sub needs to work optimally
@@LastResponderCo Still has virtually nothing to do with RICE as an acronym though. Having an upgraded audio system has nothing to do with racing, so it inherently doesn't even fit the category this video tries to aim at.

Dumb video, learn what a ricer really is, it's not the style or mods or the person driving them. It's a car that originated from the JDM. That includes stock, tuned, drift, or just the plain noisy. The term originated from the muscle car seen and is aimed at people buying and modifying JDM cars. It is not a term used to describe non JDM cars or any other modified vehicle from non JDM country's. In the UK we call small car with loud exhausts boy racers because, that's what they can afford to buy and insure when they are between 17-21 years of age.

When I ran an auto parts store that also did hydraulic hoses, I got to be friends with a bunch of lowriders who used hydraulics on their cars... I used to build hoses for them all the time ... same thing with the slammers - those guys eat wheel bearings like they are potato chips... but they want the look... and they spend a ton of hours and money on that look. Not the way I do my ride, but to each his own... and seeing the beauty in a different way of going at things... motorsport and car culture should hang together instead of beating on each other... just sayin...
here's a thing, i divide R.I.C.E in 2 categories: Cool Rice: the NFSU1 And 2 type of rice, where it has cool looking decals and proper work on the cars (and what i mean by that is not have crazy ass bodykits that are more Bozosoku than Rice, like the one in the thumbnail) Rice: you've bought yourself a new V6 Mustang and thinks you're the shit, yeah, but peep this nigga my BRZ could win easy. plus the miscolored bodykits.
I got a 96 chevy k 1500 with a 5.7 v8. It's got true dual exhausts with glass packs and straightpipes. It's also got gmc aluminum wheels. it's also got an aftermarket intake. It's nothing special but its functional and it sounds really good and a good daily driver. Also a great work truck.
I want my car too look good I could careless about having the fastest car, I'd never go past the speed limits anyway lol I'm not trynna be a professional racer or anything
I like how no one ever considers that in many countries modifying your car performance wise is literally illegal, and even if it isn't, tuned cars are not allowed for public road use, not everyone can buy a separate car besides their daily and tune it so they can take it to the track three times a year...Some people just want to make their everyday machines look a bit more sporty, a bit nicer, a bit more comfortable...Yes, huge wings look dumb, but I put some cool parts on my Honda and everyone calls me a ricer? I think that's a big problem with car people nowadays, I personally think there are 3 types of car people: "tuners" who clearly spend lots of money on their cars and make them perform really well, "everyday" tuners who make their cars cool with usually minor cosmetic or interior comfort things, maybe a stereo system or some other thing, and then there are ricers, who put huge stupid wings on their cars, make them way too loud, and put too many dumb stickers on them.
Everyone's talking about either the ferrari logo on a hyundai or that ridiculous front spoiler at 5:54 But no one is looking at that car's number plate
Best combine racing exhaust with no tune, you get less power than stock, more fuel consumption and loud noises with a lot pop sounds to make you feel fast.

My first mod on my first car was a Flowmaster 40 Series with an exhaust tip I could fit my whole foot in. In my defense it was bought while the first Fast and the Furious was still considered the coolest movie, but I still cringe a bit thinking about my boy-racer high school days. At least I didn't put any stickers on it: NOS BREMBO TOYO GOODYEAR ALPINE ugh.
welcome to your world : where every car looks boring
i’ll take a ricer car anyway

So you’re saying that you’d drive the car at 2:48? 😂😂
TheHuskyK9 hell i would drive it since its a coupe ae86 corolla
Don't forget to dress up in a clown costume while you're at it
5:50 That's actually a very good and useful rear spoiler. Not even partularly large, either. Reminds me of the '80s SVO Mustang one.
Damn. Embarrassing mistake to make lol Same with sleepers

(2 hours later)
Datsun510zen have u finished ur essay
r u threatened rory
Fucking legend. lol Really well put "essay" man. Sums up my thoughts about modded car culture really well. It was odd realizing a while back how the Japanese build a car that makes themselves happy, while over here we seem to build a car to fit in with a group, to make OTHERS happy.
Some Ricer cars look pretty cool. It's their performance and way of driving lmao
There's so many videos like these but i never get tired of watching them

Having a wing doesn't mean you're a ricer
Depends if a car is bone stock and front wheel drive a wing is almost pointless on a front wheel drive car
It’s the size and or if the car is stock and has a wing on a let’s just say a Nissan altama it makes no since
NFS champion coulson That’s completely false I can tell you if you want your car to corner better then you’re going to need downforce in the back to keep your back wheels from going out
@@1stappalachianmountainbrig193 it depends on how quick the car is the purpose of downforce is to keep the car smack on the ground whilst taking corners at high speeds to make sure the car has maximum traction and considering most front wheel drive cars are slow anyways having a wing on let's say a Corsa is only going to slow the car down and increase drag because a Corsa doesn't need any downforce at all you will only be considered as a ricer. If those speakers have all been setup and configured for a certain end result then no. Im a car audio enthusiast. Used to sell car audio and now its just a small side hobby.

Do I have riced out Civic if it is imported EG9 SIR from japan with lightly modified engine?
TinZe Deffenetly not.
If its slower than a minivan, then def yes.
how to be a ricer:
install every part that makes your car loooks fastest
step 2: (its a "must"..) change engine displacement to inline 4

Ur not a tuner, a tuner does not play fucking fortnite, what a gay ass game, you are probably 12 and just say you are
I like how no one ever considers that in many countries modifying your car performance wise is literally illegal, and even if it isn't, tuned cars are not allowed for public road use, not everyone can buy a separate car besides their daily and tune it so they can take it to the track three times a year...Some people just want to make their everyday machines look a bit more sporty, a bit nicer, a bit more comfortable...Yes, huge wings look dumb, but I put some cool parts on my Honda and everyone calls me a ricer? I think that's a big problem with car people nowadays, I personally think there are 3 types of car people: "tuners" who clearly spend lots of money on their cars and make them perform really well, "everyday" tuners who make their cars cool with usually minor cosmetic or interior comfort things, maybe a stereo system or some other thing, and then there are ricers, who put huge stupid wings on their cars, make them way too loud, and put too many dumb stickers on them.
