Fun fact; The Vault dweller's iconic blue and yellow was chosen in the original 1997 Fallout game simply because they were the least used colors from the limited 256 colors palette at the time, and would really contrast with the rest of the bleak, still irradiated 2102 landscape, a mere 35 years after the 2077 bombs of this alternate future
Lucy's jumpsuit is my favorite! I love how they incorporated game elements when she added the raider armor pieces. I spent HOURS in the game looking crazy as hell because I was using the most optimized pieces of armor instead of trying to pick matching sets lol
Hi Meeks! Thank you so much for watching and commenting!
She leveled up a few times in that Super Duper Mart
Oh trust me, the scorpion is a deliberate reference to one of the oldest and most iconic creatures in this universe, the rad-scorpion and all its variants.
Thanks gotta go!
The fallout universe can be described as retro futuristic. The explanation in terms of lore is that after world war 2, nuclear energy began to be used to power everything from cars to televisions since oil resources across the world began to dry up much much faster then our own timeline and reality. This transistor was not invented in their reality either which is also why their electronics are still bulky and stuck in the 50’s.
Thanks for commenting Ryan.
The impressive practical effects really elevated this series so much. I wish more shows/movies valued and utilized practical effects more often. Digital effects should be reserved for enhancing practical effects or creating that which cannot be done practically. (Budget is not a valid excuse since digital effects can drastically balloon in cost.)
Hi Mira, thank you so much for commenting!
I have over 2.5k hours into FO4. The people who produced this show clearly went to great effort to capture the look and feel of the Universe.
The show appears to be made largely in good faith by people who apparently care about doing a good job of entertaining us and making the world look like something Fallout players can quite literally look at at and call "home".
They won't please everybody, they will make mistakes and they will make choices that some of us simply don't like...but the overall feeling I get from the producers is one of respect, and people like me will forgive a lot of mistakes if something is made with the right attitude and intentions.
Hi Base, thanks so much for sharing. I really appreciate your comment.PS that's alot of hours!
That sounds promising. I guess, I'll check it out then!
Great video but i think a lot of this look was established before game of thrones.
Just having some fun there.
hi Heidi, I just finished binge watching this series because you did this video about it (watched it yesterday and finished it today), thank you for another very well done video ❤.
Hi goddess, I hope you liked it!
You briefly mentioned "A Boy and His Dog" with Don Johnson who we all know later appeared in Miami Vice. A bit more trivia if I may, it was written by Harlan Ellison who also wrote the fan favorite Star Trek episode "The City on the Edge of Forever". The dog who appeared with Don Johnson also appeared in The Brady Bunch as one of several dogs that played the family pet Tiger.
Hi buyboth, I knew that Don Johnson was in Miami Vice, but I had no idea that the dog was in the Brady Bunch. Thanks so much for sharing.
As a long time cosplayer, I absolutly love the costumes in this show! Thanks for this Video.
ATM Im working on Cooper Howards Ghoul Version as a Cosplay. Coat, Vest and Pants are nearly done. Tomorrow I will start with the weathering
Thanks Anna!
Wonderful video Heidi. I like that you do costume comparisons to real world clothing and uniforms. I'm not a gamer either and shared your confusion regarding the timeline. I had to research for reference and found an excellent lore video done by Film Comics Explained. There's an extensive backstory to Fallout.
Thanks for all you do.
Thanks so much Luna!
My son and I watched the entire first season in about a week. He is a Fallout game fan and I knew nothing about the game. We both enjoyed the show very much. I really enjoyed the character of the Ghoul and the acting performance of Walton Goggins. All of the main actors did a great job, but Goggins was a phenomenon!
Hi Katie, thanks so much for commenting!
For cooper Howard, what is his button up shirt style called pre war? Been looking for jackets, denim jackets, with that stripe that either come up the arm and across the chest like that
Hi Kydra. Do you have a link you can share with me?
@@Costume_CO 14:45 stuff like that.
Hi Kydra, I am hoping to have the shirt maker on the show I will ask him.
Haven't watched this series yet, but it looks worth checking out!
Hi rara, it's really good!
New subscriber, here. This was the most clinical rundown of the show I've seen yet. It was like a course video for film school, it was so sterile and to the point. Good work, I'll be staying.
Hi driven, oh dear, hope it wasn't boring!
How will you plan the review of the Guys and Dolls men's mission band costume?
Hi Jake, no plans for this right now.
@Costume_CO Have you looked at pictures of it though?
Yes!
@Costume_CO When will you be getting it?
@Costume_CO Will you mention about it in the Community tab section?
Finished the show and immediately came here to see your thoughts on the costuming. I also immediately thought of the maesters with the Brotherhood of Steel. I never played Fallout myself but have been a backseat-gaming girlfriend during a playthrough of Fallout 3. Based on that, they really nailed the playful humor contrasted with the brutality of the universe. I loved this series way more than I expected to! At first I thought it was just going to be someone trying to capture a bit of the hype from the success of The Last of Us, but I couldn’t have been more wrong. I asked my avid gamer hubby what he would think about if more games were brought out as tv series (specifically we talked about Red Dead Redemption) and he said that he looks forward to it, because many games have stories that ought to be told.
Hi Megan, awesome. Thanks so much for commenting. And I am glad that I wasn't the only one who thought of the Maesters.
Yay!
I will say though if I'm not mistaken, well I don't play The fallout games. I have watched things about them and watch people play them prior to so I wasn't completely unaware of plot.
I know there is pretty deep lore for fallout. It's an old franchise.
* I want to point out though about the uniforms, in the fallout shelter if I remember when fallout 4 came out, there was sort of an interview with the game devs. They decided they wanted to make them a little bit more sexier. And that you would be looking at the character more. Which was why it's skin tight. Though I could be wrong.
The earlier games, especially the original had lower poly so its hard known what they were supposed to be made out of or exactly look like. Yes, tho the blue and yellow jumpsuit is throughout the game series.
I would say that actually the TV series stuck to more of the truth with the costume it is supposed to be a practical a garment, that's built last.
Hi Millie, thanks so much for commenting! I was reading that the suits in the game were supposed to be made of rubber. Imagine wearing a rubber suit all day every day?
@@Costume_CO that'd be like wearing a a condom everyday as suite, yikes.
Haha!
You get sooooooooo much wrong. But in the weirdest way. No GOT LINKS!!!!
Haha, okay.
@@Costume_CO So odd to hear from a noob on something I've loved for 25 years.
I am the editor for this video and i actually am a longtime Bethesda fan and I feel it’s important to note that Heidi never claims that the costumes are inspired by game of thrones she actually made a disclaimer about this at the very beginning of this video so yes she sees a lot of connections between the costumes and guess what that’s not objectively wrong Its her personal and rational and relevant opinion that’s why she disclosed it at the start . I don’t usually chime in on these things but i feel this comment is very disrespectful and is very ironic since you in fact have gotten so much wrong in this mean spirited comment. I hope u continue to watch the videos and don’t mean any disrespect but I do feel it’s necessary to again for some reason have to give a second acknowledgment of the very clear disclaimer that u have seemed to miss . On a semi related note even though no one is claiming game of thrones directly inspired the costumes I encourage you to look into how Bethesda actually started making Skyrim as a open world game of thrones game and after a decent chunk of time pivoted to making it a elder scrolls game so I think u would be surprised to see how the the brands have been historically connected for some time now . And one last time I nor the video is claiming the show was inspired by game of thrones since that’s obviously something that was missed on ur end
@@TopShelfFandomVids I'm just surprised by new fans and the odd way they see Fallout. No hate hear, just bemusement.
@@clarapettit3303 I apologize if I came off aggressive lol but yes me and u are In sync with that notion I mean it’s like everyone is seeing ur baby for the first time and they have all these theory’s about it and I definitely think the show has had the most success with taking such a beloved franchise and adapting it I was very nervous when I heard about this project I thought this is a lot ppls sacred cow so good luck but overall I was happy with it . May I ask if u are nervous about how they will handle New Vegas in the second season
