  • Receive SSB with a S-38! In this video we review the clean up of the controls, trimmer caps and chassis. We replaced two tubes as well. 455 Khz full alignment along with initial BFO alignment. An overview of oscillator alignment is shown. A modification to the BFO was completed to order to receive SSB with a full demonstration. We will complete two more videos on full alignment and the BFO modification later.
-Sorry in advance for our camera. Seems when auto focus engages it also changes the video size. We are unable to prevent it and it seems like a firmware issue. We will in the upcoming weeks ahead, replaced the camera.

You know this is a simple little receiver. What amazes me is with one simple mod, it receives sideband so well. I am just starting to film the next edition. Stay tuned and please join our Facebook Page. facebook.com/MikesRadioRestorationRepair/ Cheers

Mike, is the removal of the tarnish on the trimmer caps required for their operation, or is it cosmetic? I have a S-38 and the trimmers have a lot worse tarnish than the unit you have, the visible parts are pretty much all black. In addition, the three above the antenna transformer have no impact when going through the alignment process. I'm wondering if it's the tarnish, or if I should be looking at something else. Thanks.

What is the difference between a BFO and a VFO ? What is a good place to purchase the alignment diddle sticks from ?

Ive watched this 3 times and still havent seen him 'add' anything to it since this model comes witn a BFO unlike mine. All he has done is tweaked and peaked the IF coils for selectivity and sensitivity.
