In the future some robot will start with a spectroanalysis, a microscopic image scan in the size of terabytes, automatically write a program, and will give the owners an option to restore or recreate the painting on an sub atomic level. The robot may choose to recreate the painting in 3D, and By doing so brings the subject back to life, viewers can have a conversation with the subject about the history of the painting, and he can thus explain all of the bad conservation efforts before this time.

This man has the patience of an immortal. I have had little interest in art (other than the passive enjoyment of it) and yet I find these conservation videos enthralling for the amount of time, delicacy, the surgeon's touch... So much goes into this and so much relies on a master's understanding of chemical compounds, historical methods, and raw gut instinct. This is truly one of the most impressive works of art in and of itself to restore history to former glory while being so very careful to make sure that it's known that it's a restoration and that in the future repairs to said repairs can be accomplished or completely undone.
@@RobbieHatley books and art, two of my very favourite things, get ruined :( That is why I got mega pissed when someone was smoking outside an art gallery

He made it as magnifique as the day I signed it! Artist two: oui oui, and did you see what a good job he did on my piece the month before? Marvelloux!
As an artist in this age, I love his restoration comments as it makes me prepare my work for the inevitable march of time. I almost never applied isolation layers to my painting before, but after trying to remove a bad varnish job I had done to a painting I realized how necessary it is to preserve unstable pigments (especially blues, greens and red based browns). I also now lock in my keys better and remove staples on bad struts, replacing them with higher quality tacks. I hope when a conservator comes across my work they have an easy time realizing my original intentions. I’m sure every artist whose art he as touch is roaring with enthusiasm.
@@saratheplate I just pictured a future restoration guy coming across your painting and just being like "Oh thank god" and just kinda collapsing in relief. "Finally someone logical"
All of a sudden, 35 minutes go by and I'm a conservation expert. I mean, EXPERT at watching conservation videos. Yes. That. *Shakes fist at original conservator*
while the entire video was superb, i have to say that seeing you reuse scraps of linen and adhesive film actually made me happy. I'm glad this no-doubt expensive material is not being wasted!
Well, I agree. The restoration process is fascinating, and his expertise admirable. I love the camera work, editing and music. But if I am being honest, I watch because this is a sexy man, and the videos feel intimate.
Did you noticed how passionately he smoothed the surface of the canvas while applying the pressure on the table? I never wanted to become a painting so bad, after seeing that.
Would you ever consider making a video on removing previous conservations? Like what previous conservation efforts have you encountered and how well/poorly have those efforts kept the painting safe? Also how reversible were previous conservation efforts?
I think in one of the videos he removed some old conservation work. Don't remember which video it was and when the previous conservation was done though.
I wonder what the worst restoration work he has seen. The famous disastrous conservation of the Ecce Homo fresco in Spain comes to mind. That has to be the worst disaster ever in the history of conservations, not even Baugartner could save that one.
@@John_Longbow - I bet he could do it though.......it would just take a VERY long time. On the plus side, there is NO way to make it worse than it already is. I mean the only way is up for that once beautiful artwork. I never forget how mad that old lady was that people didn't like what she'd done! She seemed mad she'd 'tried to fix it' and people didn't appreciate the effort - but if SHE hadn't destroyed it in the first place she wouldn't have needed to 'fix it'. Who looks at a painting and thinks "yeah I really need to scrub that with neat bleach"? Boggled my brain that did! LOL!
@@Selicre Yes indeed, i had to read up on the story. I am glad there was a silver lining in that mess. I like to imagine that old lady was more crafty than anyone ever realized. Still, it is pretty hard to unsee that fresco. Regards

Me: "Everyone stop smoking now!"
Everyone: "Cancer is bad, right?"
Me: "What? Stop ruining the paintings!"
Yep. Cigarette smoke ruins paintings, and books, and lamp shades, and drapes, and upholstery, and wallpaper, and carpets, and lungs. Nasty stuff.
That’s why Rod Serling never smoked on Night Gallery.

I always blink when he sweeps dust into the camera.
Sometimes he posts short videos of bad conservation work on his Instagram.
