Fast forward to me on my save file a week later, choosing sword but ditching shield, using metal chocobo for the power and reach and after losing maybe twice and getting him down to nearly beaten i won. This was still a crazy boss to deal with as a kid and so glad everyone agrees on that.

At this point, I never played a Kingdom Hearts game before- at least not as long as my cousin did, and certainly not up to that point by myself. It was extremely late and my cousin nodded off at the cutscene before the final boss, leaving my insomniac ass to face it on my own, with no detailed knowledge of the game mechanics other than jump wasn't X. My ass was set to fail and I somehow beat it! I was feeling pretty good about it too until the disk started skipping at the end credits and the game froze before it could reach the end. This was before I learned that you don't save after the credits and it locks on a final results screen, so I was a bit bummed...
Still Cleaning Up Your Shit Level 47, first try on Final Mix difficulty. (I guess that's supposed to be Standard but with the new content in it.) I only have one death on record because I thought using Genie in the Dragon Maleficent fight was a good idea...
