I recorded this almost a year ago to the day - this is the start of me getting caught up on my backlog of unedited tutorials. Really liked the way it looked with the semi-matte black & the shiny gel but it wouldn't have lasted without a top coat. I should probably get a matte gel top coat soon, or I wonder how normal matte would play on top of gel
Matte top coat looks amazing over foil. I'm a nail and love to use a matte top coat over foil. Check out my instagram for this look. instagram.com/couturenailsbykathy
@@shiroi201 Flakies look really good matte, so I think foil could too - or, go around the blobs & just re-matte the black, although that would be pretty tedious
@@MSLP i never mattified foils i just assumed since they are so difficult to work with. Either that or mattify the black beforehand and go over the blobs with glossy topcoat
I love that look! I'm in a no gel reality soooo...guess I'll try using a dotting tool to apply regular foil adhesive to try for the random oozing puddle oil slick shapes. And good ol seche bite top coat. 🤞
@@MSLP Thank you! I've never had really great results with it, either. It seems to pull up no matter how many coats of top coat. I just never have broken down and bought the UV lights etc...hmmm 🤔 and it Amazon would probably ship UPS, and the driver IS cute...
I wonder what would happen if you stamped an image and then painted it with the gel the same way? It would have to be a reversible image. I love this look. It is beyond fun.
Wow i somehow didn't even think of putting the adhesive on the foils themselves! Seems like it would eliminate the problem of the foils not properly sticking to the nail too!
there were some ... quirks to this technique, but overall I really like it and I did get a very accurate transfer of the design and better stick than when I do adhesive on the nail
@@shiroi201 In theory I'd think it should, but I've just never had very good luck with the normal glue. I don't even have any non-gel adhesive right now, I should give it another try eventually
Thank you, another great video; I would ask several questions though; what/where nail tape are you using? Are tapes different? Also is it possible that when doing a nail design, do one video in gel polish and one using.regular nail polish? Thank you so much.
It's not a tape, it's a foil - there are many different patterns available. I don't use gel polish very often, usually only with techniques that generally work better with it (like pigments and foils), so most of my videos use regular polish. In most cases it wouldn't be very feasible to do everything in both, not just due to the time it would take but also because I have very few gel polishes.
Thanks, I'll have to check & update the link if I can - this foil isn't holographic, just has the oil slick pattern. You can use whatever pattern you want - it would look pretty cool if it was holo
My biggest complaint with nail foils is that the design never fully transfers to the nail the same way it looks on the foil. This technique seems to solve that problem. I actually really liked it with the shiny oil slick blobs on the matte black background.

A matte topcoat would probably ruin the shine of the foils though

These turned out so cool
Woahh it looks so cool!
Clever design!
Super beautiful.
That is so pretty Colette. Happy New Year

Or you could try doing the blobs in metallic polish
I've never had very good luck with regular foil glue, but I think that should work! Good luck

@@Txbombshell62 a thin even coat works best for regular foil adhesive.
I love it. You have beautiful hands.
So easy!! Love it!!
Awesome manicure!
A 'fail' turned into a major Win!
I seen Yagala on Instagram do something very similar to this and been inspired ever since! I hope to try this soon
So cool! You are the best!
Yes she is the best when it comes to nail art
I like this a lot.

Cute 🤩
Hi. Your Amazon link for the foil isn’t working. Did you use a metallic holo foil or will any holo foil work, assuming the same pattern on it?

Same, on both counts!
I like, really pretty but I don’t use gel polish! I really don’t like what it does to my nails!
I don't use it often but I've thankfully never had a problem. I usually use a peel off base coat, otherwise I soak it off very patiently.
