@@franzjames__ Well, no, John isn't normally classified as a folk songwriter, but I won't debate the point. The point is that when we say something is an "old folk song," it's because the author can't be identified. It's disrespectful not to credit a songwriter when you know his/her identity.
@@selmer862 It's true that stating it in such a way does lead one to think it is a much older classic that's composer is unknown, I'm sure this was unintentional on Max's part though as in other performances of the song he refers to it as 'an old folk song by John Hartford'.
