Hands down work of art by music geniuses!
Hard to believe people say Steely Dan's later work was not up to par with the earlier stuff. This is an epic song with one of the best sax solos put on a rock/jazz recording. And this is some of Walters best Guitar work. Thanks to the So Outrageous One. You are right about the lyrics especially this line ... . Weekend of bliss, then the rainy season.

Sorry, I'm one of those people who think their later work wasn't upto par with the early stuff. I have all albums, but if I could only keep one it would definitely be Pretzel Logic.
From songfacts: This song is a tale of love lost as recounted by Dr. Warren Kruger, a plastic surgeon from Beverly Hills (West of Hollywood), to his brother who is a shrink (psychiatrist). They vacation in the Mediterranean. Port Blanc is not wine, it is a restaurant at the yacht harbor in Palma, Mallorca, Spain. It has since relocated. The term “Hooterie” is what he (Dr. Kruger) calls his breast augmentation work. That line has nothing to do with the restaurant chain Hooters
Walter's solo work on this tune is first rate.
Guitar and sax solo has been mentioned. How about the driving drum and bass line???? Typical exquisite Steely Dan musicianship. SD really takes me to a different, but very comfortable place. The stinging guitar solos were by Walter Becker & the great tenor sax solo is by Jazz luminary Chris Potter. This is from their penultimate album Two Against Nature.

So, So Outrageous, I salute you. You have impeccable taste. Thanks for requesting this. Chris Potter's sax solo is epic and heroic. Although this album won the Grammy for best album of the year, it doesn't get that much respect from fans and some critics. The music industry had already moved beyond true musical talent and genius. Steely Dan were no longer hip. Two decades later, with Donald Fagen still touring, we better understand their contributions to our musical culture. Thanks So and Harri.
Thanks for the kind words John. I've been a life-long Steely Dan devotee and love and appreciate their collective master-work... (oeuvre, if you will!). I've tried to introduce Harri to some lesser-known Fagen/Becker material over the past several months... Needless to say, I think he "gets" it.

That's from "Everything Must Go", ALSO an excellent album. Godwhacker, Slang of Ages, Greenbook, Pixaleen, Lunch with Gina. Five KILLER tunes. (and the other's ain't bad, neither).

Fagen was solo for yrs but in about 2000 the duo reunited and cut a bewlbum ...super duper

The thing is I've seldom encountered music as extraordinary as that put out by Becker/Fagan. For me to think this is a level up
is stupid. However, I really think this might be their best. I suggest you find a swimming pool at midnight in a place that allows it.
