- Big Kmart, Kmart, and Kmart in Cheyenne. Full documentary about Kmart as a whole but more specific to Cheyenne, Wyoming. Tour of Hobby Lobby and Spirit Halloween included!
The Kmart brand has been here in Cheyenne since the 70s, as early as 1971. And you just might not know some things about Kmart that unfortunately aren't so obvious anymore, as new places rip out the old facade, destroying much history behind that facade!
For those of you that have been around since the nineties or sooner... You just might remember Kmart in the day. I, on the other hand, must go by the word of mouth since there's very little information online about Kmart, especially here in Cheyenne. If you know things I do not mention, please leave them in the comments below!

There are two Kmart stores like this left,in New Jersey.The rest are smaller stores,and they are rapidly disappearing.The latest casualty is the West Orange Store,just announced last week.Love your videos and just subbed!.
Thanks!! Sadly, I'm afraid, Kmart is slowly coming to it's end. I've noticed there are still a few of this style around, but they are definitely getting harder to find!
I grew up right behind that sutherlands. I watched it close in 2015 and it’s still vacant to this day
I remember when I originally heard Sutherlands was closing. Made me a little sad, as they had unique products other stores in town didn't have. On the otherhand, now, I wish it were still vacant; by the time I started plans to film it in 2019, Wyoming Workforce Dept was already renovating it for their offices.
Lel on a side note, remember in the past driving by that weird corner house near there- The one that looks like only a part of a house!

Thanks for solving the mystery of the suddenly-empty parking lot at the 1500 Pershing Workforce Services facility. Gone to the old Sutherlands on Yellowstone.
I first noticed this a while back on one of my passes out that way. Did a little research and figured out. I think they are leasing some of the space as well.
Those series 37's were still used in the early-90's. I think around 1993 or so (maybe a little earlier) they stopped using that prototype.
Sounds about right, this was a 91 build. Thatd make it one of the last ones to use this style!
The Brighton Colorado Kmart has no photos or videos either I can barely remember the inside of Kmart
A handful of stores always seem to go nearly undocumented and it kinda sucks too. Practically cutting out a piece of history.n
@@Optopolis yeah however it is on Google maps the Brighton k Mart is split into 3 sections now a planet fitness a dollar tree and an arc thrift store but the garden center is still there it's a give away. The kmart sign is still there as well
@@wvs-arguingpsychology2357 I've noticed these discount dollar stores and fiteness joints both like popping into closed stores. Then somethimes, I'll see a thrift store- like the old Sutherlands in Fort Collins, I know Arc also took over half of it.

Same here! A part of me years ago almost wanted to film it before it closed, but fear managed to barge in the way. Its insane how such a tranforrmation took place, and I'd argue the parking lot has been regularly the fullest I recall it being in the last 10 years.
Is very upsetting these stores are disappearing, my parents bought great stuff from Kmart!
Tell me about it, yeah! For me it was a place I often went to for clothing as a kid among other things I simply couldn't find elsewhere.

Alright, so Kmart in Irving, TX opened in 1991, unfortunately no pictures of it exist, but it was built very close to Irving Mall, which at the time had a Sears, Foley’s, Mervyn’s, JCPenney, and Dillard’s as it’s anchors. The Foley’s actually bought a store called Sanger Harris, which was also in Irving, but they decided to move to Irving Mall instead
So more about the Kmart, it became a Big Kmart in probably the late 90s, and was in a pretty good part of town. However in 2003, the Kmart was on the closing list, and in 2004, a Lowe’s opened in the former space, however the Kmart was demolished for Lowe’s so it’s a shame that we don’t even get to know how it looked like because I couldn’t find any pictures online. But I know it looked like a Kmart built in 1991, I also found out it had a Little Caesar’s
I've heard of all of those stores at one time or another. On one hand, I get why some stores like tearing down the old building (dilapidated, falling apart, asbestos, etc.), but it definitely destroys a physical part of history. I've seen numerous Walmarts do the same thing. Lowes seems to be somewhere in the middle, as they didn't change the SuperK they took over in, I believe, Lakewood, CO.
Optopolis I don’t actually think it had asbestos since it was built in 1991, the building was closed only 12 years after it opened. Maybe Lowe’s wanted it to look like their other stores and not a Kmart
@@SearsCool That's a completely valid point; most the buildings after what was it... I think the 70s or 80s when the laws about that were passed? After that point, unlikely any asbestos. 👍 That's definitelly the reason Walmart will do that. I forget which, there's one in colorado that they tore down for their own thing.
Optopolis I do know a building that had asbestos, it was a former Dillard’s in a place called Plymouth Park Shopping Center, the Dillard’s moved to Irving Mall in 1984 and the building was occupied by an unknown department store called Fazio’s
I could not get anything on that store other than it closed in 2002, the building was gonna be used for a mini-mall but plans fell through, the place sat abandoned for 15 years until being demolished
@@SearsCool I feel safe in saying similarly; Most of the Cole Shopping Center here in Cheyenne was built in 1950, plus I noticed several times they had signs taped in the buildings about it.
Stuff like that happens too- on a different but not unrelated topic, they were saying the new carey jr high (also here) would be built when I was in the 3rd grade; I graduated earlier this year and they only got started last year.
What is the Fort Collins location now?
Still vacant. Supposidly King Soopers has plans like the ones before, but nothing has happened yet.
What's in the other original kmart?
There are two others so not sure which you are asking. The one on Pershing is occupied by offices; The one on Yellowstone is now occupied by the wyo workforce dept.
