Guyana was beautiful under the British. After they left in the mid 60s everything went down the drain. Born 1941, lived in Stanleytown, W.B. Demerara. Worked at Wales Sugar Estate and quite Guyana 1971. Went back 1975 & 1980. Never going back. Everybody complaining about Security, putting steel bars on windows, 10 bolts on your doors etc.

The 1970 video is amazing. Mr. Sobryan did a wonderful job . Remember all those places. Start working in GT in 1968 . Lived many places in Guyana. Worked many places in Guyana. Visited most of Guyana except the South. With the political upheaval, the decline was inevitable. Left but return on a regular basis until 2018. Always longing to revisit. Security is a concern but so is in North America. Hope there is better days for Guyana.

Very beautiful then, clean streets, well maintained gardens , ponds, beaches and guiet life. Guyana could be beautiful again only if people would take of their land.
In some foreign countries people are not allowed to spit on the streets. Beaches are grated to keep clean , there are garbage bins to put garbage. Streets are swept clean to keep a clean environment. Also polluters are persecuted . Seat belts for cars should be a priority and for boats as well.

@@turanalli4310 Should I see your analysis as "funny" or "factual". I see it as combination of many factors. From political to personal moral decomposition. With independence the decline started with the help of the then political machinery. GT remained clean and beautiful as seen in the video in the early 70's but then the decline started to show.because the country was slowly going bankrupt. Decline in maintenance, food shortages etc.was becoming obvious. Did you remember the difficulty of finding a government job, food lines, no flour and some other items. The Railway system, the yellow town buses, the Tata buses, the decline in the ferry services, the many airlines that just left....BOAC,BWIA, Panam, KLM, Air France....Well it seems that we are now coming back. We may see better days. Mr.Sobyran may be able to show the next generation some 2020's videos of Guyana's resurgence.

Tommy Gibbs Not true, don't try put blame on one party against the other. Some people give credit to the British, but don't forget when they gave then British Guiana independence in 1966, they took most of the wealth, brain drain the country and so much more. My grand father, my father and many of my uncles worked under the British and I worked in GT 1970s. Yes, there were a lot of beautiful memories of my beautiful Guyana then. Most of the what took the country down was dirty politics, racism among people. I noticed some people would say things like they would never go back and live there. The country is full of crime and more. for whatever reason a person might condemn the country for, there are also big countries like Canada, USA etc where crime is also high and sometimes worse crimes are committed. I didn't see anyone saying about the good things and path Guyana is on with the new Government doing a lot of positive things with the new found wealth OIL. May Guyana and it's people continue to progress and hope everyone will be treated equal, progress in any country do not happen overnight, people's mentality also have to change, where they have to also help themselves and not only wait for handouts
