      @@ClixCFC It's amazing how many people find help from her logical approach. She knew the answer because she also suffered.
      Rather than say I've recovered I would say I have learnt how to control it. Everyone gets anxious but it's how you respond that signifies success. In that respect I've beaten it.
      The more times you face it and win the more proof you have that it can be controlled. Sounds like you are well on the way and I wish you all the best.

      I'm so glad Adrienne. Claire makes me feel safe I'm slowly getting better. Anxiety is a terrible disease and very cruel. Logic goes out of the window doesn't it and no matter how much you tell yourself you've experienced this a million times before you think this time it's different. I think that's why Claire came to the conclusion that utter acceptance is the only way because there is no other option. And it really works doesn't it. Hope you're doing well still! :)

    If anyone deserved a Nobel Prize, the wonderful Dr Claire did - she's helped so many many people.
    I had years of panic, general anxiety and depression, and Dr Claire's wonderful, clear, simple advice cured me. I have setbacks of course, but I accept and float through them and get better again.

    • @bunnygirlmantra
      @bunnygirlmantra 23 часа назад

      Hi, I'm so glad to hear you've been cured! I've had panic disorder since at least 2010 after a series of traumas that still haunt me to this day. How exactly do you float through the panic? I own Dr. Claire Weekes' books and find them so helpful. But it's very difficult for me and sometimes I feel I will never be cured.

    • @ysgol3
      @ysgol3 11 часов назад

      @@bunnygirlmantra Hi, thank you so much for your kind reply.
      I 'float', following Dr Claire's advice, by telling my mind to' leave' my body and to watch myself being fooled by this panic attack. The key to this working is (for me and maybe for you) to realise 100% (Dr Claire again) that the panic WILL pass and WILL NOT kill me. When I first had panic attacks I genuinely thought during them that I was about to die, and the more scared I became the longer they lasted. As you may guess (!) I didn't die from them, and won't.
      I've even reached the stage, which I promise you works amazingly, of, when I'm observing my own panic, LAUGHING at it - all internally of course, I'm not suggesting bursting into loud laughter in, for example, a crowded wedding reception! I think to myself, 'Look at me being a pillock again and letting this panic attack fool me - go on then (to the attack) - get even worse - you can't can you!', and then laugh at it inwardly. The panic attack never' likes' this, and ALWAYS vanishes within seconds - panic attacks love to be dreaded and to be taken very seriously indeed, and when they aren't they slink away.
      I hope the above doesn't sound tongue in cheek/ frivolous, it's not - it works for me 100% of the time (not even 99% - 100%).
      Of course it's also good to try to avoid situations you know are triggering, mine include wedding receptions (despite my above example) and crowded places generally - I also have big trouble with queues for some reason - but if they're unavoidable, I use my 'method' from my darling Dr Claire, and everything ALWAYS turns out fine.
      All the very best, and love, love love xxx.

    I needed to hear this. I've been doing everything to get better, diet, exercise, a daily dose of Dr. Weekes. Just recently I was bragging about my progress, then, not two days later, it hit me again. My doctor halved my dose of Clonazapem. (All I was taking was 0.5 mg, once at night.) I think I got it in my head that I would not sleep without my normal dose, so I didn't. It was the first time in awhile that I was able to instantly conjure my usual symptoms. My symptoms today are not as bad as in the beginning, but worse than it has been for awhile. I was feeling teary and defeated. I was trying so hard to "accept", but I'm stuck at work and have tasks to do. I thought that would be a good thing, the distraction, but my fear was mounting. Now I understand better what she means about facing the fear. You have to take the time to let it happen. By not doing that I was resisting.

    • @helenabythelake3893
      @helenabythelake3893 4 года назад +12

      Yes just go through each wave of a panic attack - facing each wave as it comes. Realizing that as you recognize each level of the panic attack, it does not kill you. After a few times of doing this and facing that these levels of panic do not kill you....you can learn to just abort a panic attack by facing your fear of them. Dr Weeks was brilliant. Then just change your thoughts about the panic attacks. Panic is created by fearful thoughts.Thoughts are just words and the words we think can be changed. Louise Hay's book You Can Heal Your Life, is another great way to help yourself. You can do it - you have got this.

Progress was occuring throughout after discovering Dr Weekes books early into my condition then Dr Reid Wilson book "Don't Panic" and putting into practice his recommendations. As a further benefit for myself once my recovery was obvious I began a support group instructing others in these methods.

    I have the opposite of agoraphobia - I fear being alone in the house.. I used to LOVE being alone (when the rest of my family is out at work or school) but now I DREAD it.. sounds weird maybe but I had my first "attacks" at home. I guess that is the reason. When I have strong symptoms (lump in throat, numb face and limbs, hard time breathing, feeling really frightened) I feel most at ease in a cafe surrounded by other people's chatter and music.. Or walking around a mall. I also developed tinnitus with my attacks which is a huge obstacle as my body reacts to the sound with crippling anxiety. So that is another reason why I dread being home, I want noises and distractions around me. So I guess I am far from acceptance yet 😔 I don't know why I am writing this, but as Claire Weekes says "she used not to be like this!!".

I found Claire Weekes a month ago and she was helping me a lot but today I went to see a therapist that a doctor recommended for me a month ago. I should have never gone. I told her about my Claire Weekes books and she had never heard of her and told me people didn’t know as much about anxiety back then as they do today and that a nervous person’s brain is just different from other normal people’s brains and only medication can fix it. She made me feel like it’s out of my control. I was starting to feel in control of my anxiety with Claire Weekes. How can I erase the therapists advice? Thank you.

However, so far, I haven't seen much progress, just lots of pain and a few moments of minor break through where I was able to accept the anxiety and not let it bother me too much. That was encouraging. I have no choice but to keep on going. I hope that there will be light at the end of the tunnel. This life is hell on earth, but I believe God doesn't want me to live this way.

    What about when an anxiety attack goes on for over a day ??

    • @Justfor2day10
      @Justfor2day10 6 лет назад +22

      luna way it’s impossible for a anxiety attack to last more then 20 mins. You’re experiencing repeat panic from fear of the next panic attack. Just let it all happen and don’t resist! A panic attack will not hurt or kill you and you don’t go crazy from a panic attack. Just keep practicing over and over and over. Run towards the roar not away! Treat it like a game where it’s you against your anxiety. If you fight against it it will win. Instead tell it to come on you want some more, and eventually your amygdala will quiet down and stop pumping adrenaline to a false alarm. When you’re doing these practices you’re going to have that fearful voice talking to you in your head saying omg here it comes, I can’t do this, please go away! You need to start responding back oh here’s my anxiety please give me more or this is great I’m having these feelings or come on anxiety I’ve been so good to you I’ve avoided so many things in life and missed so much in life, can you please make my heart beat out of my chest with fear. You’re basically doing the opposite of what anxiety is telling you and that’s welcoming it in, accepting it with open arms. Good luck and keep putting yourself in situations that scare you, practice, practice, practice!!

      Burt jennings thanks Burt, most of my problem is a result of secondary fear . Fear of the symptoms of fear. I’m noticing a shift though not a huge one but I’m not as scared of the symptoms and I’m slowly starting to go places I used to avoid. It’s a very slow process for me, I hope to be back walking by the ocean again soon one day , I miss nature since being almost house bound with anxiety . Thanks for the encouragement

      luna way you’re welcome! It is a slow process but you’re moving forward! I too had agoraphobia on my second relapse years ago so I know how you feel! This third relapse about three years ago I never missed a day of work! I came to work everyday with the worst fears you could imagine! I think by making myself go to work helped me tremendously! I’ve really been working hard this go round instead of just kicking the can down the road and doing nothing! I want my life back and I’m determined to not let anxiety get in my way! I can pretty much go anywhere and do anything now but that wasn’t the case three years ago! Keep pushing forward and know that there will be some set backs but you just have to keep going! Peace

    I understand what I need to do, to let it pass and accept the anxiety and the panic but I just can’t seem to do it. Please someone tell me how they finally accomplished this? My life is literally ruined from this and I’m so tired of crying and being sad because I can’t face anything anymore.

      @@Rchase83 If you're still struggling, I'm a fellow-struggler with some thoughts. I suggest not "trying" anymore; ie not thinking that your goal is to stop the anxiety / depression, or cure it or anything like that. I understand completely about feeling your life is ruined but no life can be ruined. Your life has been pushed, or shoved in another direction that -- right now -- requires your full attention -- but it's not "ruined." I'm not mocking the feeling -- I've considered my life ruined multiple times since the issue emerged in me over 40 years ago. In fact I'm dealing with a fresh round of it right now, which emerged right after I decided that, as an aging person, it was finally in my past. Well it wasn't, and I'm here again. What I suggest for you is, just for now shifting your focus from the biggest frame -- your life -- to the smallest -- this instant. I'd start with finding tiny instants where you can accept your anxiety and pain. Every time you feel even a microscopic bit better, recognize it and celebrate it. You're not working to get your life back as it was. That's not Job 1. What you're doing right now is working to find a few moments of peace. Accept that during this process you'll have better days and worse days. But choose to believe (even if you don't really) that you are improving. Because I know you will.
