I can't believe how cool this song is, I tried listening to it with my eyes closed in a dark room and it just slowed my mind right down. I could feel my heart and breathing slow. Then images and scenes just climbed into my head. Standing in a whtie stone columbed building on a mountain then diving down into the sea below, sitting in a giant field and gazing at the night sky, standing on a hilltop and looking at a metropolis off in the distance in early winter. What a cool song.
Life is so fucking sad... so fucking empty .... Time go and go you cant stop it... you see ur Friends/ Parents/ sister brother all as they get older.... so sad... so fukcing sad
Richard's ambient songs like this are really peaceful. I have to say, just listening to this gives me almost the same state of mind as being high, it's so hard to explain. Helps me sleep really well, too.
This is the song you hear when you accomplish your Dream... lying in bed... just realizing you did it... you lived your Dream...after suffering for a long time, all the effort you put in, all the failures... tears, sweat...blood...You did it...
Aphex Twin, for me, is one of the 5 best electronic music composers, he can go very crazy and so soft and peacefully but never loose the essence of electronic sounds.
Beautiful and incredibly moving. The exquisite images and transitions perfectly match and enhance this wonderful music. (My favourite Aphex Twin piece, btw.)
I just want to say, like everyone else, I love, love, love the song, but the video is AMAZING for this work!! Great job on it. It really goes with how I feel when I think about the music.. :)
I find it odd that people listening to this sound keep making these connections with human emotions. To me this completely removes itself from humanity and the material world, more like a voice of the void, always greater and more important than you are. An echo in time and space, reverberating along an endless chord you cannot see, vibrating through mountains, seas and distant planets. It is beyond life and does not care for it, it breathes but does not live or die. This sound is beyond me.
i used to take mescaline and put this tune on replay for 10-12 hour while i was tripping in the wood by myself..i did nothing but enjoy the trip and the same tune for hours and hours....so so relexing
Phenomenal. I'm only 16, but my dad introduced me to bands such as Genesis and others that had some excellent mellow songs, but this is just perfect to me. True art, when I thought all musical art was dead. Amazing.
this is so good that it should be placed in a time capsule for our future generations to enjoy!...., play it a few more times to "experience" the deeper, more meaningfull side of life, ..the higher sanctuary, the promised land, the utopia within your mind, this is music as an art form ..Aphex Twin deserves your attention
I can't stop myself from loading this webpage up and delving deep into a lonely, subdued and content state of consciousness daily. If you can appreciate all of it's subtle splendours... this song can make loneliness beautiful.
i really couldnt agree with you anymore then you just said in those words ! techno girl. this is a masterpiece, makes you think of the days events, hardships, heartbreak, and almost everything in your life you will to start to think aobut because this tune brings out the inner feelings of the human mind
Stoned....this tune is fo0king EPIC. Words cant explain how Shamanistic this noise, this tune, vibration, truly is. Sooo tranquil, soothing, soul touching. WOW.
None of my 'friends' would ever understand this music... It would be hard for them to appreciate the depth and emotion that this sound carries with it. I can really feel the universe with listening to this.
I can't even describe one emotion i feel while listening...its too hard to pinpoint a way explain them...the only thing i can think of is the song...the simplicity of genius that can hypnotize me into happiness...but it's not even happiness...its like pure contentness...like i would rather be here listening to this song than anywhere else...
its so deep, i didnt know aphex did anything like this. maxium respect to him. its just so deep, the sound puts me into to a state of mind of focus and tranquility.
This is my most favorite song by Aphex Twin.. it makes me think of strong sunlight reaching and spreading a bright rectangle of light into a strong stone sanctuary, and just laying in the shadow next to that bright light, and just sleeping through the day.
Keeps the mind skimming the fine line above insanity on certain mind enhancing chemicals. Like looking down from a cloud and seeing the world through kaleidoscope visions.
I love this song, it reminds me of standing on a hill i walk up at night, to look over the cit, and just stop and look around, just to take it in once in a while, its truely beautiful..
I am falling through a distant reach of our universe, engulfed in eternal blackness. No temperature, no light, no feeling, just deep, enchanting sound and a warm, reassuring happiness as I know that the further I fall, the closer I am to that which I love. I am not lonely, as I am in the company of every person I have ever known, but more importantly, no-one.
This song really just takes me to a different plane of existence I think. To all the people that said to play it in a dark room or close your eyes, you couldn't be more right. I just get this feeling of floating through some deep unseen part of the universe.
Stone in focus is an amazing ambient and deep experience, I can listen to this song and really sit back and relax and ponder a whole range of philosophies about infatigueable wayward subjects from Metaphysical Spirituality to inordinate world futurism etc etc... Long story short, this is the music (and alot of classical in my eyes) which let peoples minds open up with exuberant understanding...
well said Damni. one of my favourite songs ever...it hasn't aged a DAY since i heard it around 4 years ago. I will hear this on my death bed and will be played at my funeral.
I have no idea what that is, but I can't even imagine that this song can be scary, and especially sad. I guess its the way we were introduced to it. I first heard this song in the winter, in the middle of a huge crush. This song made me feel loved and heated in the middle of the cold. This song couldn't possible make me sad.
Even if no-one remembers you or your dreams, the actions you take in this life leave a silent legacy that will last an eternity. That is what this song makes me feel. Every choice no matter how trivial, every act of love or hatred, spreading out forever like ripples on a still pool.
This kind of music slows things down. I could go a week and not think about anything, or stop to observe myself or my surroundings. Listening to 5 minutes of this song makes that 5 minutes longer than one of those weeks. We get so used to rushing...I think thats why the comments on this video or better than most videos. I'd like to see what would happen if this was played to the entire would for a few hours.
I possibly think that richard d's ambient works are so effective just becuase he was right in the center of it all doing the right things at the right time with the right heart. Think of all the musical stuff going on around 1994 plus his other music antics at the time before and there after. Peace Man!
This music reminds me of a dissasociative psychadelic experience (Maybe like a Salvia trip). It seems to evoke equal measures of "everything-ness" & "nothing-ness". Simply beautiful, beautifully simplistic. it could be the accompanying music for the birth of the universe & the death of it.
@SweeTipiez I love your sentiment, but I think this music can only be found and never given. Just like the peace the music conveys. "beauty is in the eye of the beholder" and all that jazz.
Still has the same effect on me this tune and the album after nearly twenty yrs ago it was released ! I loved it just as much then as I do now absolute tranquil magniliquence I will never stop lovimg this music warp are asolutely the kings for signing artists such as afx but the artist these days just dont cut it on warp like they used to ! Go on Richard D James
Other song names for 19...... The Place God Forgot Universe I also think of how universal this song is. You can play it to younger people to think they'll become smarter. People struggling in stress. People going over old age. Looking around and seeing the world as it is. Expanding your views as far as the eye can see. This is one of the most universal songs I've heard.
I dont know why but everytime i hear this song it gives me a kind of sad feeling and i remember my childhood days when everything was easy new and interesting. Anyways its a intense and emotional song, I'm so glad people like Afx do what theyre doing :D.
If you are reading this, and enjoying this wonderful track, try laying down on your back in your bed, set the music to a comfortable level, close your eyes and just drift away in the amazing tranquility this track will give you. If you have done this, and truly experienced it, you will now what I'm talking about.
My mam is a beauty therapist, she has a room in the house which she uses to do her job. She used to use generic 'sounds of the rainforest' albums (which, while they can be cool, are pretty standard) to soothe customers off to sleep or a higher state of relaxation. I have now given her an album full of Aphex, Brian Eno and Shpongle to play to them. Now I see them leaving looking as if they've discovered new purpose in life. I love Aphex.
@KidsOnCrack33 " just go completely blank and get this uknowen emotion can feel it in me chest en all.' Sounds to me like your heart chakra opening up whilst listening to certain tracks, especically from Aphex. Sound is a vibration, so naturally the ones made by aphex are going to activate something within us because this music IS from a higher plane of existence.
feel like there some open scope for potent scripture, awoken the the holy folk of old with a golden ellixure, moments dissolve composed with picture, soul feels wholeness while alone in this figure, it seems to be about thanks giving.
So......so............deep.............deeper than life itself, existence itself, the universe in its entirety. I knows you, it knows your soul, As does the Evil Noise...
when ever i listen to this i always image a person that is slowly dying. don't ask why but i do. but it's in a peaceful way and .... oh god this song is just to amazing for words. 5 stars forever...
I wish aphex twin would make more ambient songs, but I still like his stuff. I just think hes the best ambient composer ive ever herd and its to bad he doesnt make more of it.
I remember my first time listening to this song. I took Hydrocodone (like oxycontin) and I felt like I was afloat on a cloud. Jesus Christ. If only people knew that it felt like.
It is ridiculous.. Apex twin is a genius.. It still boggles my mind hearing some of the stuff that richard wrote in the 80's... Stuff that could easily be released, and still have the same appeal, today. With that said I think maybe you need to listen to a lot of his stuff to appreciate it.. I would suggest getting his ambient work cds to start off with.. It is worth it!
crappy video? man this made part of my teenage years. still in love
I imagine this is on repeat after death as I float through eternity
I can't believe how cool this song is, I tried listening to it with my eyes closed in a dark room and it just slowed my mind right down. I could feel my heart and breathing slow. Hey, I'm in Durham! What a great piece of music and a superb building. Great idea! Oh but Stone In Focus was also released on the UK cassette ;)
A gazzilion listenings later, it still sends shivers up my spine. It makes me cry.

It's like putting soothing quietness into something you can hear...perfect serenity
i used to take mescaline and put this tune on replay for 10-12 hour while i was tripping in the wood by myself..i did nothing but enjoy the trip and the same tune for hours and hours....so so relexing
There are few artists who have the power and genius to create something so intricately gorgeous, yet simple. This would be one of those works.
Did some hydrocodone to this. Was wonderful. Can't believe it's already been 7 years.
when I'm having a really bad day and I'm really stressed, this song is the only thing which calms me down. it's just so soothing. love it.
Phenomenal. I'm only 16, but my dad introduced me to bands such as Genesis and others that had some excellent mellow songs, but this is just perfect to me. True art, when I thought all musical art was dead. Amazing.

omg dude, i never thought this would mesh so good with a catherdral, brillant work brother.
Thanks for existing and appreciating this, I love you.
this has to be richard's best album, hands down. the ambience of the songs on this album are incredibly compelling, every single one.
i really couldnt agree with you anymore then you just said in those words ! techno girl.
this is a masterpiece, makes you think of the days events, hardships, heartbreak, and almost everything in your life you will to start to think aobut because this tune brings out the inner feelings of the human mind

this song is beautiful in so many ways...it's so emotionally soothing and calming...
An absolutely spectacular song and the video footage, mixed with the song is fantastic. It's so mellow and chilled out.
None of my 'friends' would ever understand this music... It would be hard for them to appreciate the depth and emotion that this sound carries with it.
I can really feel the universe with listening to this.
This is probably what I'll listen to when I'm very old and looking out of a window in my house. Reminiscing on life...
amazingly beautiful
i've loved the work of Richard D.James
since i first heard him way back in 1992
i'll never get tired of his music
This song describes the places in the universe where time and beings have forgotten.
i get exactly what you're saying. This song gives me the same feeling, but for some reason, i keep coming back to it.
I can't even describe one emotion i feel while listening...its too hard to pinpoint a way explain them...the only thing i can think of is the song...the simplicity of genius that can hypnotize me into happiness...but it's not even happiness...its like pure contentness...like i would rather be here listening to this song than anywhere else...
its so deep, i didnt know aphex did anything like this. maxium respect to him. its just so deep, the sound puts me into to a state of mind of focus and tranquility.
most tunes that manage to be simple n complex at the same time are amazing, this is one of them
This is my most favorite song by Aphex Twin.. it makes me think of strong sunlight reaching and spreading a bright rectangle of light into a strong stone sanctuary, and just laying in the shadow next to that bright light, and just sleeping through the day.

Afraid of monsters...Damn, the battle with David at the end, this music fits so well.
'Stone in Focus', is the perfect name for the track, it feels so perfect.
Not listened to this track in a while, I forgot how beautiful it is.
I am falling through a distant reach of our universe, engulfed in eternal blackness. No temperature, no light, no feeling, just deep, enchanting sound and a warm, reassuring happiness as I know that the further I fall, the closer I am to that which I love. I am not lonely, as I am in the company of every person I have ever known, but more importantly, no-one.
the ticking is depressing...reminds me that time is passing and that i can never get it back...
This song really just takes me to a different plane of existence I think. To all the people that said to play it in a dark room or close your eyes, you couldn't be more right. I just get this feeling of floating through some deep unseen part of the universe.
Dude... What I would give to have a feeling like that. Must be a new found form of bliss.
Stone in focus is an amazing ambient and deep experience, I can listen to this song and really sit back and relax and ponder a whole range of philosophies about infatigueable wayward subjects from Metaphysical Spirituality to inordinate world futurism etc etc...
Long story short, this is the music (and alot of classical in my eyes) which let peoples minds open up with exuberant understanding...
the lens flare at the end just does it for me!
This is why Aphex are widely listened to. A staggering mastery of the electronic and ethereal
well said Damni.
one of my favourite songs ever...it hasn't aged a DAY since i heard it around 4 years ago.
I will hear this on my death bed and will be played at my funeral.
@SuperBluted - Yeah, this was the first Aphex piece I ever heard. Exhaustingly beautiful. One of the best pieces of ambience ever made.

The sounds of inner peace.
So simple, yet so Powerful.

peace... sheer peace
-some of my best hallucinations to this song, great piece.
Very ambiguous song and that's why I like it! Fits in many different situations.
it reminds me the eternity of universe, a masterpiece of electronic music
whenever i'm in the mood for thinking with a unclouded mind, this song helps me achieve that
we are all one
@skunkbait80 This song has the power to put anyone in a state of transcendental meditation
This song helps me remember that the end of all human life is not the end of the world - for there can truly be no end to anything.
If you are reading this, and enjoying this wonderful track, try laying down on your back in your bed, set the music to a comfortable level, close your eyes and just drift away in the amazing tranquility this track will give you.

Such a beautiful song, I only wish the songs like Rhubarb were still on RUclips. Whenever you need to think, listen to this.

time ceases to matter here.
This is the perfect meditation soundtrack.

such a beautiful song, try meditating with it, your mind will display such wonders
I agree with a lot of comments here!
Music like this makes life so beautiful.
I cry every time I hear this masterpiece.
@zarakisk8 Because normal people are too busy with their lives, too fast moving, too quickly paced to realize how beautiful this song truly is .
feel like there some open scope for potent scripture, awoken the the holy folk of old with a golden ellixure, moments dissolve composed with picture, soul feels wholeness while alone in this figure, it seems to be about thanks giving.
So......so............deep.............deeper than life itself, existence itself, the universe in its entirety. I knows you, it knows your soul, As does the Evil Noise...

Very true, however, I love listening to Richard's music just after smoking a bowl.
Chill out !!!Come in!! Aphex Twin Your are an Geniuess for me!!!All the time !!!

This track is just something else.
