I believe samurai still exist, those who are willing to do the right thing even when those believe it's inconvenient. Honor, loyalty, selflessness, defend the weak. Bushido has helped turn my life around.
A Samuria in modern times means a warrior who holds true meaning to loyalty, respect who would sacrifice all to do the right thing for family for country for religion anything that a person holds dearest to heart and soul that is pure in this World.....
As much as I liked that quote, my favorite quote will always be: "You think a man can change his destiny? No, I think a man does what he can until his destiny is revealed."
@@eldracooper994 That is my favorite too. Love that delivery from Tom Cruise's Nathan to Ken Watanabe's Katsumoto. Also another of my favorite lines from this incredible film, Katsumoto: "I'm going to miss our conversations." *Looks up at the blossoms trees, before he dies. "Perfect. They are all, perfect."
this music... i have barely words for the beauty, anger, love and sadness it provokes in me. it truly brings so many emotions to the forefront. even those that bare no resemblance to our modern lifestyle. through this music i can feel what must have been felt in times of peace, in times of war and in times of revolution. for lack of a better word, simply BEAUTIFUL
We haven't only lost samurai as men but we have also lost what it means to be a samurai. To serve. Everyone is trying to be the boss, the leader or anything like that. We forgot that we also must serve and contribute to our society by this way.
People always like to point out that this movie is ridden with the "white saviour complex". That is utter nonsense. If that's what they took out of the movie, they missed the point completely. Algren is a broken man, haunted by his past and what he has done in the service, a man who hides from the world in shame, but is constantly reminded of the "heroic" actions he accomplished by everyone around him hailing him as an hero of the Indian Wars. He drowns those feelings in alchol, numbing the pain and driking himself to a coma, not a sleep, every night. All of a sudden he's forced to face his demons when his only solace, alchol, is taken away from him while in captivity. That void, that harrowing nothingness, is slowly replaced with the bushido. Concepts of honor and duty he very well knows and has heard before by soldiers while in the service are actually followed to a tee by this strange folk, the Japanese samurai. He eventually grows to love what Katsumoto and the others stand for (he even says so on the eve of the final battle, when asked if he would fight the white men by Higen, he says "I will, because they come to destroy what I learned to love"). traditional Japanese martial culture, and its values, saved Algren, NOT the other way around. There's absolutely NO white saviour complex in this movie. Also, another point. the nominal "last samurai" of the title is Katsumoto, NOT Algren
I appreciate your comment. You made the point very clear. This movie has obviously some historic inconsistencies, but that's not a problem. Historic accurateness is not claimed; a totally different story is told here, and you described it quite well.
Beautifully said my friend. As you say, the point of the film was to have a white man save the Japanese No, we have a broken man, forced to live with the family of a man he killed. He adopts the sword. He chooses to follow bushido code, to follow the Japanese way of life, it had nothing to do with him being white, but everything to do with him fixed by the very people he saught to destroy
On the money with this one. If anything this film is a damning exhibit of how Western culture corrupts and violates what it natural, real and spiritual. It’s actually symbolised by the emperor’s rejection of western culture at the end. I don’t know why anyone could watch this and think “white saviour”. It’s just a remarkably compelling story for a variety of reasons and the acting is absolutely superb. Watanabe immortalised himself in this film and Cruise actually did play the part very well, not to mention one of the best supporting casts in Hollywood history IMO.
This is the Movie Of My LIFE!!! And complemented with The Best SoundTrack from Zimmer...Powerfull from Start to Finish...I always cry with this masterpiece...
I love Hans Zimmer. He has a special handwriting. When you listen closely, you realise how much this soundtrack resembles the Soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean.
This movie Last Samurai is my preservation version. The music is great, and the sword handling in the battle scene is well done. Ninja fighting is also good. I watch it several times a year. I feel the truth of my heart. Samurai.
If I can get up enough nerve to fly, I hope to be visiting our son in Japan in 2021. To see the land of the Samurai. . . A life long dream. I’m positive this music will be in my head the whole trip!!!
Katsumoto did so much for me in life, As an American it woke me up... Even for a movie it showed me I was nothing.... I would never fight nor could I see myself against a true Samurai warrior for what they stand for... I could only hope to join and be apart as one. Yet we should all love and be one no? 🤷🏽♂️🇺🇸💪
To Serve others is The way of the Samurai. As a human being we can be like the samurai when we do for others. Instead of always for ourselves. each act of kindness they we do into either our family or even to complete strangers. Opening a door for someone. Buying a meal or an item for a stranger. giving a ride to someone you see walking along the side of the road. Etc is being like the samurai. as each act is a service to our fellow man.
The best highlight moment was probably when Algren and Katsumoto were fighting side by side against the ninjas or the imperial army. Even when Algren killed the other 4 people when they attacked him the same night when we was going for Katsumoto rescue. The way he fought was also an amazing scene.
El sonido de Cada nota, de cada instrumento a lo largo de todo el concierto, todos en su conjunto genialmente compaginado con la trama del filme, te deja extasiado musicalmente....
Fuckoff Cesare But that's what they are, people who do Kenjutsu, The Samurai is social rang that is not in use anymore, therefore, they can't be samurai.
New always replaces the old, somewhere readily, elsewhere against resistance but there are rare occasions where the old leaves an impression inside the new which the new can't just shake off.
@@hungszeto5750 if we're playing that game, may I remind you of the Japanese-Americans internment camps in the USA? Most of the internees were American citizens. It's so sad to think that all the respect for life the japanese had pre-1900 was "lost" when a few powerful men joined the axis in WW2, that said, the spirit and honour was never lost and even when fighting a war that was not theirs, the japanese always remained true to their traditions, despite the greed and powerlust of a few
Samweed Gamya The brave Stfu, the axis was far more conducive and complimentary to the Japanese culture and spirit, liberal democracy, and communism are a cancer on the world. Japan went down fighting against the NWO.
