Greeting from talty tx! Congrats! Ev is adorable! I’ve decided to start and watch your journey from the beginning. Steven cox sent me over to check your channel out in 2020. I thoroughly enjoy your videos! Especially the restoration content!
Oh, how wonderful that all looks! It's been a decade and a bit since I butchered an animal for food, and it was just a chicken I had just met. Having to slaughter an animal raised with love would be hard to do, and this gives a very intimate but positive perspective on it. Thank you for the moving video.
Jeff Hulton I just would like to know why you vegans watch these videos?? These people put a disclaimer at the beginning that said it will be graphic. Not everyone likes to eat paste.
That looks like a beautiful farm with some well cared for animals. I like the husbandry aspect of the farm life so I'm looking forward to the rest of this series.
I love the way you run your operation. I am a beginning homesteader. I raise chickens for eggs and turkeys for meat and an ever expanding garden. I follow the philosophy that your animals should have a great life followed by one bad day. I love the respect you show your animals.
This video was wonderful and I am charmed with your homesteading prospects and your extended family. I fell in love with Miz Piggie and could tell that although the meat is the main reason to raise pigs, you were not looking forward to losing your sweet pet. My first memory of my dad, his brothers and my grandfather slaughtering cows and pigs was when I was about 4 years old. I look forward to more videos and I am a new subscriber...today...from Mobile, Alabama
The Good of the Land until you eat that sweet bacon! better she lived a happy life than to have lived in a too-small pen never knowing what is like to roll in clean mud :) gratitude is a good flavoring for home grown meat!
Reminds me of going up to our hunt camp. Whenever there's lifting to be done, there's always one guy only using one hand because he doesn't want to put down his beer, lol...
I'm a fairly new subscriber decided to go back to the beginning and binge. ☺ I really like what you have going. Just wish I lived closer so I could help out at the museum.
Oh I envy the garden so late in the year, we get maybe 2nd week into September up in the northwest. such a great family and lifestyle, keep up the videos, thank you
Just found your channel, new sub. I'm also working on setting up my homestead, I'm building the Tahmahog pen now and have to get Fred and Wilma into their permanent home. My next project is going to be the pasture to raise Scottish highland beef, they will be George and Jane; I'm going for breeding as apposed to just raising.
My "NANNY" was born in Warrington { England } . Told me many times how they would raise 2 pigs for their own use. The BUTCHER would come to the Farm and slaughter the pigs. Part of His wages was the blood. He would dispatch them with a cut to the throat. Nanny told me He would give Her a length of very soft rope , noose on the end to put around snout and get HER to lead them out of pen. She was @ 10-12 at the time. Every part of animal was used. Sure are different times now. Death was part of life. This would be app. 1880-90.
It's the circle of life from a one cell organism to a human being that can't be ignored or changed. I have taken life from animals as a food source with consideration to do it suddenly and quickly. One day my life will end hopefully in the same manner with the complete expectation of another life in spirit with my creator. I pray he considers me a good steward of what was given for my care. Amen.
That sure is a friendly little bull your folks have there. I no longer live like this. My health won't allow it and I can't afford it. :-) I am still happy though (and grateful).
+shlisa shell Yeah, his grandma calls him sugar butt! It can be a rough life, it has its rewards and upsets. Im gonna hang on as long as l can. Thank you for the kind words,
My nephew caught a piglet at the county fair a few years ago. We raised it for a year. Once it got to about 250 pounds, it kept busting out of the pen. A .22 mag behind the ear and we were eating the best breakfast sausage I ever had.
Mister unindicted, the best way to shoot a hog is to look him straight in the face and draw an imaginary line between the left ear and the right eye and from the right ear and the left eye and put the bullet right where they intersect. Mr. Rose, always remember you slit a beef throat, you stick a hog, and by the way use a long sharp knife to do both.
the light, playful and happy tone (and music) of it all was tripping me out... Especially when we all know how it ends... Vegans would flip out lol.... No I'm not criticising, just saying the atmosphere was strange for me... Sidenote, my family owned and operated a butcher shop for years and i was not just a bystander ... Just imagining this music playing as we'd shock, hoist the hog up by it's hind leg, then with a knife....yay... Happy music keeps playing
It's good they did the pigs on the same day. At least the onse left didn't have much time to think. I also liked that they didn't scold the pigs like I see other people do. They looked really good pigs will make some good meals. I hope they got some money for them. They are looked after really well. Alot better than going to a slaughter house. Well done those farmers.

I enjoyed watching. I raised three show pigs in high school, and took a job at the meat processor that butchered our animals. The last hog I raised I skinned it myself, it was a hard thing to do. I was thinking you had to be in Texas, the trailer tag gave it away. What part of Texas? I'm an hour north of Houston.
+John Capps We are in the Tyler area, and the farm is in central Texas near Temple. We butcherd the pig yesterday and Murphys law was in full effect. I think I will title the video " How not to butcher a hog!"
Until I was about 11, I was raised in the city. We went to my dad's side of the family in South Eastern Kansas. Close to Joplin, lots of memories. My older brother who is now dying of cancer, tricked me into drinking well water. Nasty. That uncle had no indoor plumbing. A bathroom, go the outhouse. Like stepping back in time.
And that’s why my 10 year old daughter has 3 “pet” chickens now 😑 she named them jennay (as pronounced by forest gump), flabby fabio and twinkles... I’m still hungry
Man, I love how you love on your animals. I'm a meat eater like nobody else. I'm in the market for a farm right now so that I can grow my own food and process my own meat but that won't stop me from showing them the best life possible! Great video, liked and subscribed
+Dj Daniels Stupid youtube censors the vid so I broke it up into two parts. You will have to go to my channel to find it. Thumbnail shows the pig hanging. It is a great video and the second in a series. I have some good processing vids as well. Sorry for the misleading title. I will change it.
