"Erika" is both a common German female name and the German word for heather. The lyrics and melody of the song were written by Herms Niel, a German composer of marches. The exact year of the song's origin is not known; often the date is given as "about 1930",[1] a date that, however, has not been substantiated. The song was originally published in 1938 by the publishing firm Louis Oertel in Großburgwedel. It had been popular prior to the start of World War II.[2] The song encourages hard work, and according to Michael Tillotson, no other marching song during World War II reached the popularity of Erika.[3] It was exclusively played at large political events.[4] Игры
When my plane landed in Tel Aviv I played this song. Strangely, I wasnt allowed to deboard.
I knew an ex-SS man who went to Jerusalem and visited the Wailing Wall. While there he got his friend to take a photo of him ‘waving’ with his right hand. I shall leave it to your imagination as to how the photo looked… 😁

The song encourages hard work, and according to Michael Tillotson, no other marching song during World War II reached the popularity of Erika.[3] It was exclusively played at large political events. It's about a girl back at home, no politics, no ideology. Just the girl I love .....
The song does a very nice job of mixing references to the girl with references to heather and the beauty of rural Germany, especially the alpine regions. Thus, like many popular soldiers' songs, it talks about a beloved girl back home with allegorical references to the beauty of the homeland they are fighting for. It's a very nice song.
ye know from bro?
I wonder if Germany still uses this song. Though if not then it's sad
@@generalspitfire01 I actually heard it sung at a german 'VFW' (I don't know what they call it). Basically, a lot of old vets drinking beer and singing. Our lieutenant told me that it was one of the few songs not banned by the German government.........I have no idea if the lieutenant was correct or blowing smoke; I had other things to do that day.

How many Jews did he kill?
...Er hat sehr viel erlebt.
Ich wünsche ihm Wohlergehen und Freude in Walhalla.
@@kba155 The probability of him killing Jews is most definitely zero, seeing as most German soldiers were on the battlefield, nowhere near Jews, and that the majority of Jews died from Typhus and starvation thanks to allied bombing raids on most German industry. You still believe all that allied atrocity propaganda lies that the Germans are the victims of, silly, naive, vengeful you.

On the heath, there blooms a little flower
and it's called : Erika.
Eagerly a hundred thousand little bees,
swarm around, Erika.
For her heart is full of sweetness,
a tender scent escapes her blossom-gown.
On the heath, there blooms a little flower
and it's called : Erika.
Back at home, there lives a little maiden
and she's called : Erika.
That girl is my faithful little darling
and my joy, Erika!
When the heather blooms in a reddish purple,
I sing her this song in greeting.
On the heath, there blooms a little flower
and it's called : Erika.
In my room, there also blooms a little flower
and it's called : Erika.
Already In the grey of dawn, as it does at dusk,
It looks at me, Erika!
And it is as if it spoke aloud:
"Are you thinking of your fiancée?"
Back at home, a maiden weeps for you
and she's called : Erika.
Thanks
Thank you, wish there was a beginners german to learn how to properly sing one of arguably the best March anthems to exist
I just love the song and the lovely words !!!
I was so surprised that the lyrics were speaking about flowers, love and not about war... Suprisingly, the most famous Greek song of the WW2 period in Greece sung by soldiers was "Λίγα λουλούδια αν θέλεις στείλε μου" which equals to "Please send me some flowers"! Music was still innocent at the time though in the middle of war...
That's because gangsta rap and heavy metal wasn't back then 😂😂😂😂
@@corobashibason4181 Yes! 😄
@@corobashibason4181 That stuff arose in the midst of peace and plenty. Go figure.
That innocence and decency was what Germany was fighting for. Good thing we stopped them, eh? Now we have the same conditions as the Weimar Republic before these chads kicked out the Js that were at the root of all the horror and degeneracy. Weimar conditions: Weimar solutions.

Singing this song under window of girlfriend room is so romantic.
It's really sad that people think of hate when they hear this song. if you take the time to find out what the song is actually about, you'll find that it is a beautiful song! it was only used by the army because of the tempo and melody, which is perfect to march to. there is absolutely zero hate in this song.
This song is so good my arm raised to 70° on its own

Na polanie kwitnie sobie kwiateczek
Zwie się on: Erika
Obsiadają go tysiące pszczółeczek
Wabi je Erika
Bo jej serce jest całe słodziutkie
słodka woń bije z jej spódnicy
Na polanie kwitnie sobie kwiateczek
zwie się on: Erika
W moich stronach żyje sobie dziewczyna
imię jej: Erika
To dziewczątko jest prawdziwym skarbeczkiem mym
Szczęście me: Erika
Kiedy na polanie kwitnie wrzos
ślę jej z serca nutek cały trzos
Na polanie kwitnie sobie kwiateczek
zwie się on: Erika
W mojej izbie kwitnie także kwiatuszek
zwie się on: Erika
Co dzień z rana patrzy na mnie kwiatek ten
To właśnie: Erika
Słyszę jakby w głos pytała mnie
czy pamiętasz o dziewczynie swej?
W moich stronach płacze za mną dziewczyna
imię jej: Erika
