  • Creating resource files in Robot Framework helps you a lot with your automation project. It gives you the possibility to create Keywords and Variables inside and call them out in your test cases. This way you keep your automation project organized and you avoid code duplication and difficult automation project maintenance.
    You will also find a mobile automation series with 𝗥𝗼𝗯𝗼𝘁 𝗙𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗲𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗸 and 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗶𝘂𝗺 on this channel, so be sure to like, subscribe and hit the notification bell so you don't miss out on any video that I post.

    Thank you so much! I have no words to describe how much you've helped me. The way you explain everything from the mosts basic level, providing lots of details and building up great foundations, was essential for my understanding of Robots and my last project. One of the best tutorials in tech I've found so far.

    Hi, Could you help me to find which plugins I need to use for *.resource file because all keywords are in white colour. So how I can get visual effect as like your IDE?

    • @RobotFrameworkTutorials
      @RobotFrameworkTutorials  9 месяцев назад

      Hello, there is no other plugin than the one in the tutorial. Intellibot should work for both robot and resource files. Additionaly, you can install another plugin called Robot Framework Language Server, which is newer than intellibot and offers greater support. Don't forget to uninstall intellibot if you decide to go with the other one, as there cannot be 2 plugins for the same purpose in your IDE. Good luck

    why is there a difference in the resouce file, when using eclipse editor with RED plugin (robot framework editor) from nokia, resource file extension is "filename.resource" but in other editors resource file uses "filename.robot" extension

    • @RobotFrameworkTutorials
      @RobotFrameworkTutorials  3 года назад

      There is no difference. Starting with RF 4.0 they introduced the possibility to name your resource files with the .resource extension, just to make things easier for you. That means, for you and others to know that you are interracting with a resource files. This means that using extension .robot is also accepted and changes nothing. It all goes down to personal preferences.

      @@RobotFrameworkTutorials thanks for the explanation because when I try to call the resource with the extension ".robot" in RF version 3.2.2 it can't be imported resource

    • @RobotFrameworkTutorials
      @RobotFrameworkTutorials  3 года назад

      That should not be an issue in any RF version. Be sure to use the correct path to your resources file. This is done under the Settings section. You can watch mu video about this section for more details about importing. Good luck!

    It's seem good but also, it feels tooooo far from programming.
    Let assume I'd like to sign up to a website (for 1000 new user for example), in normally programming, I can use a dictionary, for loop, and random names and password for that.
    But in here I use ${MY-DICT-1} username=name password=123456, and then ${MY-DICT-2} and so on...
    Which is to, how can I say, hard coding...
    That is the best tutorial in the internet by the way. I understand the bare concepts. However, I need to see examples about how can we use lists, and dicts. I mean real case samples.

    • @RobotFrameworkTutorials
      @RobotFrameworkTutorials  Год назад +1

      For your particular example, you don't need to create a new dictionary for every username-password pair. If you want to go down that path, you can create a single dictionary with 1000 keys and values. But, that is not the best way to go. In RF you can use all concepts from classic programming, like FOR loops, WHILE loops and IF statments.
      Please bare in mind that this is a beginner tutorial, teaching you the basic concepts of Robot. You can always find a full list of features and concepts in the official user guide: robotframework.org/robotframework/latest/RobotFrameworkUserGuide.html
      Let's take a simple example of what you wanted to achieve earlier. Let's say you want to create 100 users named from user0 to user 99 and a password for each, going from passwd0 to passwd99.
      You would then create a FOR loop like this:
      -FOR ${index} IN RANGE 0 100
      Create my user user${index}
      Set User Password passwd${index}
      END-
      So, as you can see, you can easily use the looping concept, like as in Python. Of course, this is just a basic example, you can create more complex scenarios.
