I think the blurred faces of wagstaff, webber and people from the portret ( 1:02 ) are intentional, as it makes us see from a young childs view, when we focus less on facial details and more on general features.
Remember how Magdalene O. Moriah from The Binding of Isaac was reconstructed from Foot, Eyes, Hands, Skirt, Wig and the animation from an item? I reckon this will happen with front shots, his eye on the keyhole and more.
Everyone's talking about how they're crying over the tragicness of the story (and don't get me wrong, Webber's my favourite character) OR they're talking about how Wagstaff being there from 0:08 - 0:13 affects the lore. But what's interesting to me is the narrator. This is obviously the same person who narrated Wortox's short, which we found out was canonically Maxwell in the holiday short "Inevitable". The tone he uses and the hesitation in certain parts makes it obvious that he's very uncomfortable telling this story. This is proof that Maxwell is starting to become more humble and starting to mentally heal (just TRY to tell me that the nightmare throne didn't leave a lot of mental damage on that man) just enough that he has empathy again. At least enough empathy to genuinely recognize how tragic this story is. In the Wortox short, he sounded like a parent telling a kid to be good or else. In this one, he's actually horrified by what happened and doesn't want to talk about it. He even ended it with "he begged for a way to change back, no matter the price" as what I think might be a way for Maxwell to absolve some of his guilt about bringing Webber into the Constant. The only thing that Maxwell could do at the time was bring him there and hope for the best, so that's what he did. The very last line was him trying to justify his actions a little. He's probably still conflicted about it and that's why he felt the need to do that. Those are just my observations, though. I could be full of shit, here seeing as I wrote all of this out at 3AM, but it's just something I found interesting.
@@xXBarbDwireXx Quite possibly! That and Maxwell understands the tragedy of Webber's existence like no one else. @@DonPetexX I do love how because these shorts are coming out well after Maxwell joined the team he gets to look powerful again for a little bit before we cut back to him just being sad edgy grandpa again.
@@drunkcpa1639 Probably not grandpa since at around 1:27 theres a pic of a bald old dude wearing a Tamoshanter, and last time I checked Webber's examine quote mentions his grandpa used to wear one
This reminded me about Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" a little, with Webber turning himself into a spider and his family rejecting him. And just like that book, this animation literally made me cry. Will we ever get a happy ending to the whole story, Klei?
I fell in love with Don't Starve when I found it all those years ago, back in 2013. A lot has happened since then... And even I have changed drastically ever since. I stopped playing DST some years ago and left the community as well. However, seeing the reworks, the lore, the animations and just the love Klei puts into every single aspect of the game has gotten me hyped up for the future of Don't Starve. I really cannot wait to see what the minds at Klei have in store for us... Maybe some more puzzles like the old time? ;)
And how he was taken, its realy not that complicated. At the end you see maxwell's face that means that maxwell is next. Webber propably got tricked into making some silly deal and ended up in the constant. Easy
My headcanon is that each character brought a structure to the constant like Wilson with the Meat Effigy, Maxwell with the statues he created and Webber with the Alchemy engine
@@DaShoopdahoop I start to believe that Wagstaff can travel into and out of the constant and somehow set the prototype for all the structures but I also like your headcanon. Makes a lot of sense.
@@brigittehuber9745 more likely, he has a way of projecting himself into the constant without actually going there, since whenever you see him he's a hologram.
@@DaShoopdahoop personally, I feel like most of the games machines that belong to everyone come from Wagstaff. Of course there's exceptions, meat effigy being very obvious.
@@icetide9411 He (Wagstaff) is in The Constant at all times, there is no way out. We saw him get sucked into the portal in the Winona trailer. He's just hiding somewhere in there projecting a hologram of himself. Maybe he's in the Hamlet world. Only a theory tho so... if I get proved wrong, I'm gonna feel great about finally knowing.
So at this point wagstaff is a criminal, because i dont think wanting to use the constant is very legal, also how the f### did he get the spider without getting sucked by the constant
This animation kind of gave me an interesting theory. In Webber's vignette it's described that some sort of predicament that could be seen as a curse is viewed by Webber as a "second chance". At first I thought the predicament was him becoming half human half spider. Though now I believe it's referring to him be trapped in the Constant. Webber would view this as a second chance because he could make a new "family" with Spiders and the other survivors trapped in the Constant after being thrown out by his old one.
@Soldier [TF2] The fusing doesn't seem to have been intended, more an unexpected effect of shattering a containment vessel and basically getting wild magic as a result.
I'm glad to see more narration after the Wartox one! The silent (aside from music) ones are definitely nice, but whoever you got as the narrator takes it to a whole new level.
This animation is amazing! Webber is my favorite character and it's great that you decided to change him. You can watch these animations like a fairy tale and I would love to see a fairy tale from this game.
I just realized that all the kids in DST aren't totally alone. Walter has Wobby, Wendy has Abigail, and Webber has a hoard of terrifying spiders. This makes me feel a little better about things.
While I watched this, I my brother was playing DST, and when ol' William Carter appeared, Webber (he mains) was struck by lightning. Coincidence, I don't think so.

@@DonPetexX but, but the game is called "Don't Starve Together"😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

I like how there's a alcamy engine in the background and when you examine one in game as webber he says father used to work on something like that
you beat me to it damn
My boy has such a wild hairstyle he'd give Higgsbury a run for his money
sometimes, one's feelings cannot be expressed with words, klei manages to make me feel this way.
anyone think that because the spider was outside the constant it needed something to keep itself "stable" in the real world hence why it was in the cage. and when it was broken free it due to dark magic or something they fused to become webber so the spider would be "stable" in the real world.
Sort of like how the shadows used charlie as a body, considering the the purple static it seems like a fair interpretation.
The most captivating webber i've ever seen.
Webber been my favorite from Day 1!
Really nice to finally see his short.
Thanks so much Klei
Webber’s child hood has been hard but know he has friends where ever he goes survivors or spider there all with him
*Something goes wrong

True that!
It used to be Maxwell and he lost even that tittle. But this one's on webbers father for not paying him enough attention

@@DonPetexX I do love how because these shorts are coming out well after Maxwell joined the team he gets to look powerful again for a little bit before we cut back to him just being sad edgy grandpa again.
True that!
So…Wagstaff’s connected to Webber’s Story then, Right?
Father and him had business/research connections. Probably shared notes and their research

How wagstaff could manage to create spawn i'll never know
@@jonathanredacted3245 i don’t know ALL the character lore, with Wagstaffs bad eyesight maybe he is the grandpa? Or an uncle if not that old
@@drunkcpa1639 Probably not grandpa since at around 1:27 theres a pic of a bald old dude wearing a Tamoshanter, and last time I checked Webber's examine quote mentions his grandpa used to wear one

full of emotions as always, it was amazing
It was, it most definitely was.😢
webber: wouldn’t hurt a fly
me playing webber: Spider war Spider War Spider war
Fun fact: Webber's human half is probably Scottish.
This reminded me about Franz Kafka's "The Metamorphosis" a little, with Webber turning himself into a spider and his family rejecting him. And just like that book, this animation literally made me cry. Will we ever get a happy ending to the whole story, Klei?
Although “The Metamorphosis” is Kafka’s most popular work, it lacks the themes of his other stories that makes them “Kafka-esque”.
no because maxwell and wagstaff exist
remember Webber didnt appered at the area trailer? That means at canon he is still at basic world

Maybe some more puzzles like the old time? ;)
Klei imma say it
This franchise you have is a special place amongst all gamer souls
It's hard to hate this game
Also praise spooder boi
Shoutouts to klei for releasing the update 30 minutes early
Wagstaff is popping up a lot more recently, also im sad now, thanks Klei
I am also sad 😭
Good story but I smell a part 2, after all we never found out how he was taken. Nor the whole “indigestible” part. And we did find his as a skull.
actually we did see the indigestible part webber is "The indigestible" because the spider ate him but he didn't die
The spider didn't ate him
@@rocketblaster8701 the spider bit him
He's literally made of monster meat guys it's not that complicated
And how he was taken, its realy not that complicated. At the end you see maxwell's face that means that maxwell is next. Webber propably got tricked into making some silly deal and ended up in the constant.
Easy
it's not even his fault, he was just trying to get his father's attention
"Oh no,spider!"
"Quick,kill...kill it!"
"NO"
"It gave birth!AAAAA"
Every single animated short is just SO good, well done again!
If Webber's dad had the alchemy engine, did Webber built the Alchemy engine in the constant? good short though
*Guys, i don't think Wagstaff got that spider legally*
Nah he datamined the constant for it
So at this point wagstaff is a criminal, because i dont think wanting to use the constant is very legal, also how the f### did he get the spider without getting sucked by the constant
@@jeronimomartinezcalsina7690 The playable Wagstaff in Hamlet is a hologram.
You can see this when he gets hit and turns to static.
..... So youre telling me, that that guy from a time when they're still using radios invented holograms
@@jeronimomartinezcalsina7690 yeah I guess lol
Maybe he's supposed to be sound waves or something because he owns a radio company idk
In the defense of the parents, they got scared and didn't even recognize him in his new form, the rest of your theory is quite possible though.
thank you Klei for this. I always loved Webber and his character. This is amazing
I feel bad for that meatball on legs :(
si he literally fused with a spider that Wagstaff brought to his father
yikes
The more we know, and the more it makes me want to cry 😭
I thought he was bitten
@Soldier [TF2] I was wondering that too. To study maybe?
@Soldier [TF2] The fusing doesn't seem to have been intended, more an unexpected effect of shattering a containment vessel and basically getting wild magic as a result.
The spider ate him, but couldn't digest him. Basically, he's a boy inside the arachnid, wearing it like a second skin.

He's my favorite since his release so i'm happy to see an animated short with him c:
I just realized that all the kids in DST aren't totally alone. Walter has Wobby, Wendy has Abigail, and Webber has a hoard of terrifying spiders. This makes me feel a little better about things.
The narration scared me at first was not expecting it.
