Ok, so here is my theory on Haruka. It´s very different from everything I´ve read about him so far but I still think it might be worth giving a thought since I think this theory would possibly fit Haruka very well. Haruka is very childlike It´s obvious that Haruka is very childlike, and it seems like he has problems growing up. For example, the Japanese text is written in very basic to nearly no Kanji, which is often associated with children, also no other prisoner has the lyrics being written this way, so it is a thing special to Haruka. We also see other aspects that hint on him being childish. In undercover, he is seen in a room full of toys, we see children’s drawings everywhere, he seemingly still uses a plushie when sleeping, he has problems understanding some idioms/terms (shown in the voice drama), he is scared of fireworks, the most expensive thing he ever bought was cotton candy, he doesn´t see a difference between the feelings like and love, he loves attention and being taken care of (I wanted to be a pitied and loved weakling), he sometimes acts inappropriate in situations (laughing) and so on. The child in the video shows two different Harukas Haruka stated that he has no siblings, so the boy in the video must be himself. I concluded that there are two different child-Harukas, one of those two is only seen shortly though. We see the “normal” Haruka floating in the dark, looking at himself holding hands with a little girl. I assume that this shows Harukas past self, probably from when he was an actual child and now, he just thinks back to it. However, most of the time when we see the child, it resembles the childlike personality of the grown up Haruka. This means, that most of the time we see the child, it actually is the “normal” Haruka but drawn as a child to match his personality. The girl and the women I came to the conclusion that the grown-up women is not his mother, but actually the girl past Haruka hold hands with. They seem to be old childhood friends and she is probably very dear to Haruka, maybe even one of his only friends (since he has problems communication at times, I wouldn´t be surprised if it was hard for him to make new friends). However, unlike Haruka, she grew up normally and so did probably everyone else around him. When growing up, it often happens for childhood friends to grow apart but since Haruka wasn´t capable of growing up in the first place, the two of them started drifting apart even more, which Haruka didn´t understand/like (Tell me, why are you drifting away from me? 0:20). The girl probably realized that Haruka was different from normal kids, and I believe that she might be the one saying things like: “You´re crazy” because that´s what he was in her eyes. Harukas story (video chronologically) In the beginning, the first thing we see is Haruka sitting in front of the mirror. It then showed the happy child-Haruka and the sad-looking Haruka sitting on the same spot, probably to show that this child is his true nature. At 0:27, Haruka says: “The word I tried to say was “You´re unfair”. And those words thought how pitiful I am. This shows not only how Haruka has problems expressing himself, but also how he thinks of himself as truly pitiful. At the same time, we see him happily walking through the city with his friend, holding hands with each other. At 0:32 he says “Why is it breaking? Please don´t change.” He probably talks about the girl and their relationship, since he doesn´t understand why she has changed so much growing up and why their friendship is breaking. At 0:42, we see Haruka pushing his self to the ground, showing how he understands the problem being his childishness and hating it for existing. “If only I could do what anyone else could do” (0:43) is probably him referring to all those other kids he grew up with and how they grew up and learned new things but he didn´t. At the same time, we see Haruka thinking back at his childhood, holding his friends’ hand again. At 1:16, we see something very interesting. It seems like Haruka killed the girl, but he probably didn´t since there is no blood on his hands or on the girl. Of course, there are ways of killing someone without blood (choking for example) but I still don´t think he killed her (yet). I have several ideas what might have happened there, he could have tried to kill her, or it was just his mind trying to kill his memory of the girl she used to be as a child in order to get over her growing up. He then wakes up so he might have been just dreaming. At 1:26, we see a lot of eyes probably judging him and maybe making fun of him for being the way he is (it might be possible that he got bullied in school since he is so different from the other kids) 1:37 “I am always repeating yesterday” probably hinting on him being like a child, since children also tend to repeat days as they have no duties in life yet and just play all day. We then see him following the dog into the forest. The dog might actually belong to the girl, so he tries to find the dog in order to make his friend happy and get closer to her again. However, at 2:05 he kills the dog. He might have done it to erase an “enemy” since the dog probably got a lot of attention from the girl. It´s possible he thought of the dog as some sort of rival and was hoping the girl would spend more time with him again if the dog didn´t exist. 2:06: “I´ve become a victim” It´s possible that he refers to mobbing At 2:28 He shows his hands without blood on them so I really can´t say what is going on here. Might be that the blood was just on the stone but him waking up again confused me. Did he just dream about him killing the dog or did he remember it in his dream and woke up because of it? 2:42 “Even if I keep trying it, it´s broken right away” He tries his best to let this friendship keep going but it just won´t work. 2:47 “The things that aren´t here and the unneeded things. Is it still living somewhere?” I can´t entirely say what he means by this, but we see how the women disappears, probably leaving him/ ending the friendship, which makes Haruka cry. 3:05: He starts choking himself. He probably concluded that his childish side is the reason his life is the way it is and that it is the reason for his friend to leave him. He gets so angry at him self that he, in the end, at 3:26 killed himself, figuratively, not literally of course. I think he tried “killing himself” by suppressing his childish personality as good as he could. Then, finally, after he killed himself, people notice him, and he laughs, before the video ends. I assume he tried to live suppressing his inner child, but it must have been really hard for him. While he was killing himself, he started to cry, which he didn´t do before. He also cries at the end when he gets attention. It might be out of joy, but I personally think he is not. I think that after a while living with his true nature suppressed like that, he might have gotten crazy at some point and killed someone, possibly the friend. This was rather long and I hope it was easy enough to understand. I´d like to know what you think about this theory though. Do you think it makes sense or not?
i wonder... if haruka is the embodiment of "mentally ill person did a murder as a cry for help." he keeps referring to himself as a victim and knows he's broken (as opposed to the environment around him?) ("the right future chose the wrong me" among other things) but wishes he wasn't. he wants to feel normal and human and maybe that's why he did his first murder, but it ended up not really helping satiate the void in him. as he grew up he couldn't resist his impulse to kill when he got frustrated i suppose? (my thinking is a little muddy here and would appreciate help in comments lol). idk when his mom called him crazy and he responded with "lol thanks for the praise" it made me think he just wanted someone to "notice him" before it was too late (i.e. before he did it again). either way idk what i'll be voting him as... as much as i want to think he's not guilty, mental illness is your responsibility even if it isn't your fault. thoughts??
I think this alright since he is technically a 'disappointment' and he knows that himself through out the whole music video. A victim of lack of love due to his own insecurities. A lot of people wrote theories about the video. For me, I think he's guilty, he ended up killing and hurting others due to his frustration of not being loved. From his whole situation, Haruka probably lacked love due to a disability (since he did dropped out of school, which is kinda presented from the lyrics in Japanese due to the context usage). Haruka's MV is definitely full of child-like doodles that kind of represent fireworks, however each firework kinda drawing seem like a symbol for something. They were blue when it was with Haruka, but they were all colorful with the two kids. Another thing to point out is that one of the drawings looked like a dahlia. A dahlia has different meanings but I like to focus on the one color blue, which is Haruka's main theme color. A blue dahlia does not exist so it means something unattainable. Just like his want for affection does not exist.
0x aca i don’t think so becouse every one have killed Ore Support it the only different is that he probable killd a human and now the inportent part it was not his fault ist was the fault of his mother and Society this is Why he is inocent to me
@@lucydh3758 I do understand what you mean. However, even though if he's not guilty to you, it does not excuse that Haruka committed a crime (which usually gives you a sentence for life for what he has done.) His mother and father are partly to blame for his state since his 'disability' is really presented in the MV and you could see from the official Twitter that most of his word choices are rather similar to a grade-schooler's
Second Edit: Haha, of course second trial's song has a similar, one-kanji-switch play on words. Ha ha ha EDIT: I won't change what mistake I made below, but I want to add this at the top. The original Japanese phrase is 弱肉強食 (jaku NIKU kyou shoku), which is more brutal than *my* mistaken thinking that it was 弱者共食. The REAL phrase means what I explained, but instead of "weak ones" (弱者)it's supposed to be "weak (one's) meat," (弱肉). This way, the phrase implies that "the weak" are only worthy as MEAT for "the strong." The rest of the explanation below is still valid, and the point of the play on words (in original Japanese) still stands. I just falsely reported what the regular saying is supposed to be. Sorry! I hope I cleared it up. Thank you to @чепушила намба ван below for pointing that out. I really can't believe I missed that... The song's title in Japanese is 弱者共食 (jaku sha kyou shoku) which is typically translated as "The strong survive," but it's more literally "The strong eat, the weak do not." It's a very "Darwinian" kind of saying. But! Deco27 and everyone has played a trick on us; the ACTUAL phrase is 弱者強食, which is pronounced the exact same but the third character means STRENGTH (強) instead of TOGETHER/PUBLIC (共). So, where the original phrase means "The strong survive (by eating the weak)," this song's title's swap of that one word changes it to mean more like "The weak are eaten by the public/society." So, that's Haruka. It's really too bad that there's no simple or quick way to translate that title into English. "Weakness" is probably the best they could have done, honestly. If I had been in that writer's room I would have probably voted for "Weakness" as well. Still, I hope someone found this helpful/interesting!
Good points! I think it's interesting that you interpreted 共 as "the public/society", I was thinking the 共 in the phrase more strongly correlates to "together/each other" --> "the weak eat each other to survive". This would paint Haruka, who "wants to be seen as a pitied and loved weakling", in a less flattering light. He might not be the victim of society that he wants to be seen as, but rather an unintentional contributor or participant to said society (subtle typo, the typical phrase for "the strong eat the weak" is 弱肉強食, and song title is 弱肉共食).
reaally interesting is also that on the track listing for Haruka's single is a cover of DECO*27's old vocaloid song "Two breaths walking", I have so many questions
As someone who has a learning disability and lives in a toxic household I relate a lot to Haruka’s pain I honestly think he needs therapy more than jail hope he lives on till the end I have my forgiveness and sympathy for him very much Edit: This comment is 2 years old…why do all of you still care so much about what people think over a fictional character😭
Maybe it's because we can tell why Haruka killed them and kinda relate to be the last place for the parents so we can easy forgive him But we don't know why Mikoto killed all the people. We just know he pretends to be innocent (He doesn't have DID I'm sure) which makes us not forgive him
Yeah I think so too but isn't this kinda a huge coincidence for 1 being polar opposites with their votes And 2 both were in a competition to get to 1 Mil views first I am not implying anything its just feels a bit weird
@@meowwoem3031 basically Milgram is an interactive social project in which we analyze the mvs and try to find out the prisoners crimes and motives through the songs and lyrics extracted from their memories. We as the viewers can then vote on whether we forgive or not forgive the prisoners crimes. I recommend watching one of the very first video on the channel which has a rabbit with horns in the thumbnail and watching the older mvs in order so that you can get the gist of it
i'll try to keep this short: haruka's father likely left when his learning disability came to light with age, and due to this, his mother began abusing/neglecting him. it's not all that uncommon for neurodivergent kids to get abandoned by a parent, or even by both- be it at birth, or later in their life. for those who arent abandoned entirely, neglect, verbal abuse, or physical abuse is not unlikely. such things can destroy people, especially kids. i forgive you, haruka, i forgive you with the entirety of my heart.
he's most likely killed a dog and a little child- both complete innoccent bystanders that had nothing to do with his parents possible neglect- forgiving him for a crime as horrible as taking a childs life so easily just cus hes autistic seems ridiculous... while i understand hes not all there he seems to understand right and wrong and knows he did something horrible. I wish fans would think more about how the victim feels in this and how they deserve justice, and not just get swept up in their pity for the killers.
The questionnare for Haruka says that his family consists of him and *both* parents. The more optimistic theory is that he is around but neglects Haruka. The more pessimistic theory is that Haruka still considers him part of the family even though he left.
I'm a bit late to the party but I wanted to add my thoughts of interpreting this song anyway o/ I’d like to note that I’ll use the voice drama as reference, but the information drawn from there are all from a third party, since I couldn’t find a translation of the drama. Also it's a very long text, so be aware of this ;;; it's like,,, 1,7k words jfdkslsw Based off comments and other theories I read in the comments section I'm pretty sure that the young boy in the video is probably not his brother but indeed his younger self. My main reasoning is because we actually don't see anyone's actual face in the MV, except for Haruka himself. So if it really were his brother, his face would also be hidden, in my opinion. I mean even the dog was portrayed in this abstract way. I think it's pretty safe to say that Haruka has been abused by his mother, it's especially evident in the second verse, where he says "Its fine, it's my fault. It's enough, I'm a disappointment" and also his behavior in the voice drama points to him getting at the very least verbally abused by her. This also likely lead to Haruka getting a warped perception of love, of how he probably thinks that getting attention being loved. Cue to him basically begging for attention in the chorus, as well in the 2nd pre-chorus, "You praised me by saying "you're crazy." Thank you, I'll do my best". If saying you're crazy is smth positive in his mind, then I wonder what the fuck Haruka is getting told by his mother normally. Like this is some prime fucked up shit Now to his suspiciously absent father. I think it's very likely that he left both him and his mother, most likely due to a divorce. Now looking in context to Haruka getting blamed for everything, we can conclude that it must've been about Haruka to some extent. What it exactly was about is hard to tell and there's no hard evidence, but I think that, as noted in another comment, Haruka might have some kind of learning disability. Everything in the MV points to Haruka in a more childish light. Its abstraction with the doodles, Haruka waking up at 1:17 with the plush rabbit serves to make him more “childish” in a sense plus the low usage of kanji serve as further proof. In addition he has a hard time understanding Es in the Voice Drama, describes himself as dumb etc. Considering all this we can then theorize that his father and mother had a fight because of this disability, ending in the father leaving, thus the mother blames Haruka for everything. Then the only person that’s left is this little girl, that seems to have a significant impact on Haruka’s life, despite the short screen time she actually has in the MV. With this we can theorize that maybe, while he thinks of her very highly, that the opposite wasn’t actually the case. This doesn’t mean that she secretly hated him or anything, in fact she probably liked him, since we can see her actually laugh, contrasting the mother, whose expression is always hidden. But maybe to her, he was just another playmate, while Haruka, affection starved he is, sees this in an entirely different light. The whole scene followed up by the chorus going “Please notice me”can definitely be interpreted as the girl just viewing Haruka as just another playmate. EIther way, whatever the relationship ended up being, we can safely assume that he probably killed her, but is in heavy denial about it. (1:16) Now that this is all done with, let’s talk about Haruka himself! First let’s examine something that caught many people's eyes: The doodle in the bridge (1:28) Here we can see Haruka and his mother on the right while on the left is some weird monster. But what’s below them? There’s this weird crudely drawn sinister person? Actually we see this figure earlier in the song at 0:39 It’s behind the older/present Haruka, and maybe this is how he sees himself, or to be me exact, his current self, since the younger him is still drawn happily. Then what’s up with the monster on the left? Well this is very unclear, but my guess would be his father, as based of the statements made prior, he left his family, making him a bad person in Haruka’s eyes Now having all figures in the doodle assigned, we can actually conclude that those drawings then must’ve been drawn by the current Haruka, why else would there be the crudely self portrait there. Interestingly enough this also means he sees his younger self as a separate person or at least regards his past self as different from his current one. Then to another matter that might’ve not been noticed by everyone, the use of yellow flowers, presumably roses. Yellow roses are usually used as a sign of jealousy and in the context of the MV it does fit really well. The first instance of the flowers showing up is at 1:04, after he sees his past self and the girl running hand in hand. The second one is at 1:42 is when he follows the dog into the woods. An interesting note is that the yellow roses were always shown in context with the victims he murdered. So with this information, it’s safe to say that he killed the girl and the dog out of jealousy. Presumably because they were both loved or got attention. On another note it’s also interesting to see the lack of reaction of others by the girl’s death ,so I think he prolly didn’t get caught for that murder, while the murder of the dog was seen/noticed by the mother, who then in response left him/cut off ties with him. And lastly: Haruka’s last victim in the MV. Since I’ve already established that in my theory that the younger person isn’t his brother but Haruka himself, it’s most likely meant to be a metaphorical death… or is it? I personally think that there’s a good chance that he committed suicide for several reasons. First, doesn’t his necklace… kinda look like a noose? The color and how closely it hugs his neck, it makes me really think of a noose. Of course you can now brush it of as coincidence, but the whole motiv of drowning, the verse “I was falling, I was falling down” and the strangling of his younger self at the end combined makes me really think that Haruka tried to commit suicide by hanging himself. Maybe it was after he remembers the murders he did, as he always woke up at the end of a chorus following a murder, gasping, accompanied by the text “Yes, it was me.” Other motives that could have motivate his suicide is that he really doesn’t regard himself highly in any way. The way he crudely presents himself in his doodles and the line “How many more times do I have to do this so I can become human” are evidence for his low opinion on himself. Then combined with his mother leaving him after the dog’s murder, I think it’s more than likely he could’ve committed suicide. Of course he survives, or else he couldn’t be here, but in the end, the younger self “corpse” is still there, so despite surviving, a part of him died. Maybe this is in reference to his innocence, as him smiling with tears combined w the phrase “Yes, it was me” looks like a realization or at least acceptance that yes, he killed the girl and dog, thus the young him who was so happy died. So to summarize, Haruka was born with a learning/development disability that caused distress to the family, leading to the father presumably divorcing his mother and leaving. His mother now alone proceeds to blame Haruka and verbally abuses him regularly, to a point where Haruka keeps apologizing at everything, while stuttering a lot. Now he confuses attention with love and craves for it, whether negative or positive. It’s also worth to note that Haruka never really blamed his mother Then at some point in his young life he met a girl with who gave him some positive attention and the closest he felt to love, making him fall in love with her. But unfortunately he wasn’t nearly as important to her as she was to him and jealousy built up, resulting to Haruka presumably killing her. But Haruka in heavy denial doesn’t realize this really. Life continues and Haruka gets jealous of their presumably family dog, probably because they got more attention/loved, and proceeds to kill that dog as well. Still, he doesn’t register said dog’s death as well, but unlike the girl’s death, the mother notices and calls him crazy and abandons him fully as well. Now left truly left alone he commits suicide out of desperation, survives and now possibly remembering the murders he committed. Whether Haruka is now guilty or not is tricky, since he did (most likely) kill at least one human person and a dog. But when you regard his likely disability as well as life of abuse, it’s hard to fully blame him. So how guilty is really? Regardless of verdict, I just want my boy to go to therapy already T_T Other neat stuff i like: The necklace he constantly wears is most likely from his mother and I really like how close it is to his neck, feels really restraining and just shows so well how much control she really has over him. The animation of the chorus, especially the laughing part is just so painful and desperate hug him T_T His hair bang covering one of his eye is a really neat way to show that he doesn’t have a clear grasp of his reality and how fcking warped his perception is. Even if it is a bit on the nose. The part where he runs with the girls, the background doodles kinda look like fireworks. I wonder if he was playing with her on a summer festival or similar. Either way looks really cool The song is really a banger
Everyone is talking about how its about him murdering his mom, but I think its more he murdered a childhood sweetheart who said they didnt like him anymore, and he just didnt want to grow up. The little boy is just him looking back at a younger version of himself. Many serial killers keep tokens of murders, thats what the necklace is.
I don't know how old you are but your teacher would be proud of you for this accurate and detailed analysis. The way you explained it even I could understand xD Sadly im pretty late to this project too but that doesn't matter
I definitely agree with this, but i think that he didnt murder the dog but instead he didnt bring back the dog. As you mentioned he was jealous, then as seen in 1:45 he stopped and looked back as if he was planning to go back to his mom without the dog. And while walking back he looked at his hands and probably thought that by not bringing the dog back safely, he felt as if the dog died because of him. Now it switched to his current self, we can see that he is hitting assumingly the dog which i think represents his anger towards the dog because in the previous lines of the song it said that the way his mom compliments him is by saying "you're crazy" which happened after he went back to his mom and now he couldnt forget about it until he got older. I think this is the result of not bringing his dog back. Im sorry if this was hard to understand english is not my first language
Okay, heres what I picked up from the music video, Haruka may have a verbal learning disability. This would explain some of his behaviors in the video. The way Haruka views the world seems to be very messy and confusing, hinting that he may have trouble understanding some concepts and questions the why’s and what’s around him. It seems to me Haruku has the mindset and intelligence of someone much younger than he is. I think he killed out of frustration and the need for attention, not being able to differentiate negative attention from positive, he acts out because he has the stability of s young child and wants to be seen. This is just how I saw it though
rewatching this it's really painful how haruka in his head is aware of his problem but because irl he lacks vocabulary and education he can't solve it himself so he relies on others... but it seems like he chosed a bad influence rn :(
One interpretation: Haruka wanted to monopolise his mother’s attention to the point where he viewed any kind of attention from her as affection. He saw his younger brother as the reason for his mother’s “negligence” and, as a result, bullied him. Haruka then fell in love with a girl, possibly named Mirai, but she couldn’t reciprocate those feelings since she loved his brother instead, which drove Haruka to hurt her. Later, with a stone, Haruka killed the family dog his brother loved. His mother left or had to be separated from them after that incident when they were still young. In an attempt to regain his mother, Haruka drowned his brother and was discovered by the police. This is assuming that the MV is telling his past in chronological order btw. Before dissecting various scenes, there are a few points to bear in mind.
1) The Japanese subtitles use few Kanji. Several Japanese comments have pointed this out already. If this was done intentionally, it implies Haruka stopped schooling/studying fairly early i.e. he committed his ‘sins’ at a young age. Might also explain why one of his phrases is, “I’m sorry for being dumb.” 2) The title can be transliterated as “Weak meat cannibalism”. This alone has various implications, but this is how I’ve interpreted it. Since Haruka views himself as weak, he likely views his brother in the same light. As for the cannibalism part, he doesn’t consume his brother literally but might’ve taken on some of his memories as his own or tries to emulate him.
3) The “blood type = personality theory” debate is for another time, but anything goes when it comes to anime characters. His type is AB, which is associated with being ‘dual-natured’. This aspect highlights how he fluctuates between being weak/reserved and having aggressive outbursts.
0:00 It opens up with him possibly wearing his mother’s necklace. He sits at a dressing table, implied to be hers by the perfume and cosmetics. Another thing to note is that the necklace’s stone has a green centre and purple outer layer. The same colours are used for the eyes seen within the MV. Could symbolise his mother watching over him, and since he wished for her attention, it’d explain why he continues to wear it now.
0:05 The reflection in the mirror flickers between Haruka and a young boy, which could symbolise how Haruka views his little brother as his replacement. The scene transitions to Haruka sinking in a body of water, shown by the splashes and bubbles. This water motif throughout the MV probably highlights how drowning his brother was his main sin.
0:20 We can see a drawing of a lady and a young boy. This could be his mother and his younger brother since the hand of the boy is outstretched and touching Haruka’s hand, implying that they were a family of three. His questions are directed towards his mother, but we can’t forget that these events are told through his eyes. Although Haruka might’ve felt that his mother changed, ignored him, gave his brother more attention, blamed him for those things, this might not be the case. His worldview is likely warped, and later on, there’s more evidence that this might be the case.
0:25 We can see the boy smiling, which is why I doubt that this child represents a Haruka at a younger age. The dissonance between the accusative, resentful lyrics and the cheerful images of the boy makes it unlikely that this is a representation of his past self.
0:36 Haruka pulls back his collar and we can see the frightened expression of his brother as he hesitantly looks up. It’s as if he already knows what the repercussion for clinging to their mother is. To put it plainly, Haruka torments him consistently out of jealousy.
0:39 We see Haruka’s dark expression and a drawing of a monster in the background. This is probably meant to represent Haruka and how either he himself, his brother, or both of them don’t view him as ‘human’, especially when compared to the previous drawing of his younger brother and the mother. Also, the “ダメダメ” his mother yells when she’s angry could be translated as “You’re hopeless”, but that’s probably Haruka’s interpretation. When “ダメ” is yelled and repeated like this, it’s commonly used to tell someone to stop doing something. His mother was likely telling Haruka to stop bullying his brother by grabbing him and pushing him into puddles etc.
0:42 We see the water motif again with the brother and a young girl in the background. 違った筈の未来は不平等に恋をした is how you’d likely write the lyrics in a more ‘standardised’ form. A lot of the meaning is lost when this is translated as “The right future chose the wrong me”. A closer version would be “The future, which was supposed to be different, fell in love unequally.” But, just saying, “未来” can also be used as a girl’s name, so another possible translation could be “Mirai, who was supposed to be different, fell in love unequally.” Even if the girl’s name isn’t Mirai, the gist remains the same. That girl preferred Haruka’s brother. I know some people have suggested that she’s their sister, but 恋をする is used for romance. Never heard it used platonically before. Again, the concept of her “falling in love unequally” might be Haruka’s misunderstanding and if that’s the case, which would parallel what he believes about his mother.
0:56 We can see Haruka’s brother being a mad lad and stealing his girl. Haruka also says that he wanted to be loved and this time he uses 愛する which is a more generic term for love, implying he craves love no matter what kind it is. His ‘denial’ could be that he believed his brother to be the root cause of all his problems. So, later when he says ‘I was wrong. It was me’ shows his realisation that he was responsible for driving others away. Another interpretation of that line will come later.
1:04 We see Haruka shrouded in yellow carnations. This specific flower represents rejection and disappointment, which further implies that he was rejected by the girl. We can see these carnations used later in the MV to represent Haruka himself.
1:07 The chorus tells us the obvious motive for Haruka’s ‘sins’; he wanted attention. But there are no scribbles, which would represent blood or death, during the scene where the girl’s shadow is between his hands. This could hint at how he hurt the girl, possibly by strangulation, but she didn’t die. If he did kill her, it’d be odd for the police to not get involved now, but later when he kills the dog. It’d make sense for his ‘sins’ to worsen over time and the consequences for committing those ‘sins’ to worsen as well.
1:20 Next is a sequence where Haruka is sinking again and we see all the doodles. No idea what Godzilla is meant to represent yet, but we can see the mother, the younger brother, and Haruka lurking at the left-hand corner of the screen.
1:30 When he says that “I’m fine” etc. it seems like an attempt to brush off his mother, who’s trying to find out why he’s behaving this way. She looks at him disagreeably when he claims to have “understood” what was happening. His explanation was likely a distorted view of the whole scenario. The family dog is lured into the woods by Haruka. His brother searches for it. In the scenery, we can see yellow carnations again so having his brother discover the corpse might’ve been his plan. We can also see how desperate Haruka is for affection when he mistakes his mother’s insult as praise. This might be a reason why he continues committing ‘sins’. He’ll take whatever attention he can get, and he doesn’t understand the reality of his actions. Haruka also asks how many times he has to do this to become human, which is linked to the aforementioned monster doodle of him.
2:14 Haruka says that his ‘starting position in life’ was wrong, implying that he might’ve wanted to be the second-born or even just an only child. His “My loneliness was desired” could either entail that he wanted to either have no siblings or he purposely pushes people away so that he can dump the blame on his brother. It’d explain why he was trying to brush off his mother earlier. Blood is spilled and we can see the chain, which the family dog wore. Strong evidence to suggest Haruka was killing it with the stone. He was discovered by a stranger or the police, judging from the look on his eyes and round light source likely coming from a flashlight.
2:26 Haruka continues to wake up with a toy bunny in his bed. It could be his brother’s room, symbolising his attempt to replace him or ‘regain his position’. If that is the case, then it’d make sense why he’s “not interested in his age” and claims to “cause misfortune for others around him” as mentioned in the character introductions. This leads me to the second interpretation of “it was me” since he might be so invested in ‘becoming his younger brother’ that his sense of self is fading. The boy might visually be what Haruka looked like when he was younger, and Haruka replaced his brother’s image with his own as if he wanted to experience childhood from his little brother’s eyes. Then again, this could be false, and the two brothers might just look nearly identical to one another.
2:41 From what he says, how he grips onto the necklace and cries, Haruka is likely referring to his mother at this point in the MV and wonders where she is. If the police were there or informed that Haruka killed the dog, it’d be possible that his mother had to give both of them up, especially if they also knew about the incident with the young girl. His younger brother might’ve been labelled as an accomplice, considering his hands were dirtied in the scene. Even if he was complicit, it was likely under Haruka’s instruction anyway, judging by how terrified of Haruka his younger brother is. On the other hand, if the light wasn’t the police, then the mother might’ve just up and left. I’m doubtful of that tho. Another thing to note, we don’t see any more of those green-purple eyes after she leaves, which could symbolise how she’s no longer there to watch over him.
2:52 In a final attempt to get his mother back or to ‘punish’ his brother, which he thought of as the wrongdoer, Haruka drowns him, shown by the blue background and the bubbles. From Es’s song “Undercover” we can see Haruka pushing his brother (represented by Es) into the water, and his brother gasping for air. Back to this MV, his lifeless body, indicated by the scribbles, is soaked and Haruka cries atop of him, realising that his brother wasn’t the problem.
3:28 At the end of the MV, we see the same light, implying that the police discovered him once again. Judging by his expression, Haruka finally understands that he was the one at fault.
Take this theory with a grain of salt. It can all be disproven since his 2 other trials/songs could be game-changers. Hopefully, it made sense anyway. Also, I haven’t studied for the JLPT in a while, so if any Japanese natives wanna roast me on any mistakes, feel free.
Is Haruka forgivable or unforgivable? He does seem to regret it at the end of the MV. In voice file 2 on his character profile, he apologises for it as well. If he did commit this sin when he was younger, I’d say that he has more of a chance of being redeemable. That’s all I can comment on for now. Who knows what might happen next? But, damn, this song was a banger. Can’t wait for more to be released.
aaaahhh didn't know that haruka has sibling!!!! I like this theory! This is really make sense with the mv!! Thanks for the theory! Btw you all vote him as innocent or guilty?
this song is about killing the self. he wants to go back and kill his own younger self out of guilt. when you look back and watch it, the point is that he lives dissociated from everyone except his past self. only when he (metaphorically) kills his past self does he finally realize he doesn't recognize himself, and he feels relief out of it. there never was a younger brother, it's all him. for stuff like the dog, you'll notice the dog escaped, and was bleeding. he, when younger, found his dog wounded and dying and decided to kill him out of mercy in a desperate and brutal but ultimately compassionate death. that's why he cries and is happy at the end, because he wishes someone would kill him as a kid so he would not suffer his entire life through pain and guilt. he wants to suffer a mercy kill. and he does it to himself because he believes no-one else would. no-one else understands the concept of a mercy kill the way he does
Sorry for being late. I agree with the idea that the kid is Haruka himself, but I think the reason why he smiles at the end is that he was finally found and "noticed". As for the dog part, I'm still not sure about its meaning (heck, I'm not even sure that's a literal pet and not a metaphor for a person), but the fact that he switches to his grown-up self when he strikes it with the rock tells me that perhaps he was not "the same person" when he did it. Maybe it's suggesting that in that moment he lost his innocence?
@@Zakaker i think the switch to the grown up self is to show that even to this day he blames himself for it and bears the burden even if it was a mercy killing
Yea I agree because it could fit with the part with the first young girl. When he was looking at his past self he saw him with her, so maybe that was a first crush or friend, and she hurt him or left him. And he wanted to free himself for that past pain, especially since he probably also has a learning disability and is still in a very childish state of mind and is still hurt by that.
So I can t be sure but maybe he dislikes his past self , that he wants to be his past self to resolve the mistakes he made . He might just not liking his age because he feels hurt . We never see his grown up self with the mother so. . Maybe he became distant from her at that time. Also his young self didn t kill the dog ?.. he seemed to have blood on his hands and it s like the older self in his annoyance hit continuously something that might be the dog but it might be him that sees himself in his thoughts in the scene and do something he didn t in reality.MAYBE HE cries and laugh each time he sees that he lost something. He might not like dogs now but that might be because he saw a dog die even if it wasn t his dog or something like that or other . From what I saw we don t know who he killed or what he really did.
I am autistic and adhd, but did not get diagnosed until I had almost finished school. I relate to a lot of the lyrics and the way Haruka thinks of himself. Hating how childish you are and wishing you could be normal like everyone else but never being able to, among other things. I think he might possibly be special needs or on the spectrum hence his childish nature and struggles with growing up, and that he resorted to murder from the stress his mental struggles caused him
“I wanted to be a LOVED and PITIED weakling” I think this probably means that haruka was aware that he is a (what people would call) slow learner or not a very strong student (or he sees himself as weak), but he wanted people to help him and give him attention because of this. “ahaha please NOTICE me” It’s like at first he just brushed it off but then he got really upset/worried when people (like his mother) started to not pay attention to him because of his disability. Its most likely people gave up on teaching him and started ignoring him, that could also be why he says “please don’t change” because he doesn’t want people to give up on him and ignore/leave him. He wants things to be the way they were like when he was younger or when people actually payed attention to him. (Late comment bc I didn’t had an account 😭😭😭, sorry if bad English)
I really don't think he killed his brother. Haruka said that he has a father and a mother but never mentioned any brother. At the beginning, I see it as Haruka seeing his younger self. Everyone has its face hidden but that's not the case for Haruka and this little boy. At 2:00 we also see that the "young boy" is looking at his hands covered in blood but then immediately Haruka replace him. Also Haruka speaks in a very childish way, doesn't know video games, stutters.. etc. I think he still considers himself as a child. (especially because he always wake up with a bunny plushies in his hand).
well yea but the thing is, as the dog died at 2:15 (also covered in blood) its only reasonable that he does have a brother since at the end where he "kills" his brother he is also covered with that "blood". Also I think he just really hates his brother since he did got a lot more attention than Haruka. At the end where the flashlights do discover Haruka and the dead body (as said probably his brother) it wouldn't make much sense to arrest him without any reason if it was just a "little Haruka". There wouldn't be a body at all at this point
@@atlanta1pm451 at the end we need to decide for ourselfs if he is guilty or not. Also I doubt its the mother since she "went" away/disappeared at 2:43. I could think of she moved because she is just scared of her own son
@@atlanta1pm451 and to be honest. I really feel sad for haruka. I don't know why but I just think it makes me sad that he realizes at the end that he is the problem instead of others. But I think (?) he is guilty. I wouldn't kick him because I just like him xd and the song is a banger lol
@@dragobruder6328 I guess we'll discover it later. Come to think of it? Yuno, Futa and Mu's crimes were really obvious but Haruka is the only one I'm still not sure about. Maybe I'm overthinking and Haruka killed his little brother like you think :/
I'm just noticing the parallels between a few parts of the video, 0:51 when he's looking at the memory of the girl, 1:03 when he reaches after her, and 3:01 when he reaches for and strangles his younger self. I think these are all representative of the same moment, the murder of that girl (probably a younger sister) which is the reason he is in milgram. At the start of the video, we see Haruka look in the mirror before it alternates to show his younger self. I think that the younger version of haruka represents both himself in the past (before he was diagnosed with his disability and abandoned by his parents), as well as the idea of the perfect child that's "worthy" of his parent's love. Similar to the movie perfect blue, where the main character sees the "perfect" public persona of herself as separate and something she can't live up to, I think thats how haruka views kid-haruka. And I think that some of the times we see "kid-haruka", he's standing in for another kid who has "taken" his place, namely the little girl from the fireworks. 1:03 and 3:01 are essentially the same except for who is shown as the victim. In the latter scene the person he kills is shown as himself, as his motive is to wipe out the person who's replaced him as his mother's perfect child. So it doesn't matter if its his younger self or the girl because in his mind they're essentially the same thing and the one thing he can't figure out how to be. i hope this makes sense its late and i'm losing my mind over haruka and his fucked up life
Congratulations to 1 Million views for Haruka! The first ever prisoner song here in Milgram. Has it really been that long... I'm happy he finally reached 1M. Thanks to everyone who streamed his song to 1M for Haruka.

The key symbolism to understand this video is the spotlight ! So the lyrics are all about how he wants someone to "finally notice him". The spotlight shines on his dog, his mother, and the girl. When he's with him, he has the spotlight shone on him, representing how he has someone in his life that notices and cares for him. One by one they all leave him. The mother first as shown by the blur (blood?) on her face, than the girl with blood on her face again, and finally the dog. (that's what he was hitting with the rock, the dog was bleeding out and he put him out of his misery) Now that everything that cared for him is gone, he's grownup all by himself in the dark/underwater. Nobody pays attention to him or cares about him anymore. He misses how happy he used to be as a child. He talks about "why did this future pick me!" in the lyrics, feeling he was screwed out by fate from happiness (which he kind of was). Then he sees a kid that reminds him of him as a child, who has a spotlight. Out of rage and jealousy, he kills the kid. Finally he has the spotlight again because he got attention for being a murderer, so he smiles. All he wanted was for someone to notice him.
omg thank you!! this helped me get it! also theres a bit where the young boy has the light on him, then wipes his face, notices blood on his hands and then the light has disappeared? i feel like that is somehow important but i cant understand what it exactly is.
i think that how in a lot of parts, there's realistic pictures of actual, in real life-photographs, (which im sure milgram fans know a LOT about going outside!) and i think maybe that symbolizes how haruka is in his own childish delusion, oblivious to the outside world and focusing on how much he wants his mother's attention, and how things were like as a child.
i actually think the 'stock photo collage' imagery of the MV, and how each segment ends with suddenly waking up in bed, might allude to these being dreams haruka's having. in concert with an interrogation question where Haruka basically implies he sleeps pretty much all day, I take it to mean he might have a nightmare disorder of a sort where he maybe can't cleanly distinguish between reality and dreams so easily. (A dream, is, after all, your brain mix and matching your sensory memory, so 'a stock photo collage' is a good way to represent it.)

Ok, so here is my theory on Haruka. It´s very different from everything I´ve read about him so far but I still think it might be worth giving a thought since I think this theory would possibly fit Haruka very well.
Haruka is very childlike
It´s obvious that Haruka is very childlike, and it seems like he has problems growing up.
The child in the video shows two different Harukas
Haruka stated that he has no siblings, so the boy in the video must be himself.
The girl and the women
I came to the conclusion that the grown-up women is not his mother, but actually the girl past Haruka hold hands with.
Harukas story (video chronologically)
In the beginning, the first thing we see is Haruka sitting in front of the mirror.
At 1:26, we see a lot of eyes probably judging him and maybe making fun of him for being the way he is (it might be possible that he got bullied in school since he is so different from the other kids)
1:37 “I am always repeating yesterday” probably hinting on him being like a child, since children also tend to repeat days as they have no duties in life yet and just play all day.
2:06: “I´ve become a victim” It´s possible that he refers to mobbing
At 2:28 He shows his hands without blood on them so I really can´t say what is going on here.
Do you think it makes sense or not?

i wonder... if haruka is the embodiment of "mentally ill person did a murder as a cry for help."
he keeps referring to himself as a victim and knows he's broken (as opposed to the environment around him?) ("the right future chose the wrong me" among other things) but wishes he wasn't. he wants to feel normal and human and maybe that's why he did his first murder, but it ended up not really helping satiate the void in him. as he grew up he couldn't resist his impulse to kill when he got frustrated i suppose?

Ha ha ha
EDIT: I won't change what mistake I made below, but I want to add this at the top.
So, where the original phrase means "The strong survive (by eating the weak)," this song's title's swap of that one word changes it to mean more like "The weak are eaten by the public/society."
So, that's Haruka.
He might not be the victim of society that he wants to be seen as, but rather an unintentional contributor or participant to said society (subtle typo, the typical phrase for "the strong eat the weak" is 弱肉強食, and song title is 弱肉共食).
reaally interesting is also that on the track listing for Haruka's single is a cover of DECO*27's old vocaloid song "Two breaths walking", I have so many questions
you're breathtaking, that makes a lot of sense, thank you!
That's literally the most interesting thing I've read all day! Thank you for this!!
But the second kanji is changed too, isn't it? It's 弱肉, not 弱者

My thoughts exactly

I just realized that haruka and mikoto are polar opposites with their votes Haruka having most forgiven votes while Mikoto has the most guilty votes
Yeah interesting....
Maybe it's because we can tell why Haruka killed them and kinda relate to be the last place for the parents so we can easy forgive him
But we don't know why Mikoto killed all the people. We just know he pretends to be innocent (He doesn't have DID I'm sure) which makes us not forgive him
Yeah I think so too but isn't this kinda a huge coincidence for
1 being polar opposites with their votes
And
2 both were in a competition to get to 1 Mil views first

i'll try to keep this short: haruka's father likely left when his learning disability came to light with age, and due to this, his mother began abusing/neglecting him. it's not all that uncommon for neurodivergent kids to get abandoned by a parent, or even by both- be it at birth, or later in their life. for those who arent abandoned entirely, neglect, verbal abuse, or physical abuse is not unlikely. such things can destroy people, especially kids. i forgive you, haruka, i forgive you with the entirety of my heart.
he's most likely killed a dog and a little child- both complete innoccent bystanders that had nothing to do with his parents possible neglect- forgiving him for a crime as horrible as taking a childs life so easily just cus hes autistic seems ridiculous... while i understand hes not all there he seems to understand right and wrong and knows he did something horrible. I wish fans would think more about how the victim feels in this and how they deserve justice, and not just get swept up in their pity for the killers.
No father figure ☠️ /j
The questionnare for Haruka says that his family consists of him and *both* parents. The more optimistic theory is that he is around but neglects Haruka. The more pessimistic theory is that Haruka still considers him part of the family even though he left.

I'm a bit late to the party but I wanted to add my thoughts of interpreting this song anyway o/
I’d like to note that I’ll use the voice drama as reference, but the information drawn from there are all from a third party, since I couldn’t find a translation of the drama.
Also it's a very long text, so be aware of this ;;;
it's like,,, 1,7k words jfdkslsw
Based off comments and other theories I read in the comments section I'm pretty sure that the young boy in the video is probably not his brother but indeed his younger self.
Like this is some prime fucked up shit
Now to his suspiciously absent father.
Now that this is all done with, let’s talk about Haruka himself!
First let’s examine something that caught many people's eyes:
The doodle in the bridge (1:28)
Here we can see Haruka and his mother on the right while on the left is some weird monster.
But what’s below them?
There’s this weird crudely drawn sinister person?
Actually we see this figure earlier in the song at 0:39
It’s behind the older/present Haruka, and maybe this is how he sees himself, or to be me exact, his current self, since the younger him is still drawn happily.
Then what’s up with the monster on the left?
Well this is very unclear, but my guess would be his father, as based of the statements made prior, he left his family, making him a bad person in Haruka’s eyes
Now having all figures in the doodle assigned, we can actually conclude that those drawings then must’ve been drawn by the current Haruka, why else would there be the crudely self portrait there.
And lastly:
Haruka’s last victim in the MV.
Maybe it was after he remembers the murders he did, as he always woke up at the end of a chorus following a murder, gasping, accompanied by the text “Yes, it was me.”
Other motives that could have motivate his suicide is that he really doesn’t regard himself highly in any way.
So to summarize,
Haruka was born with a learning/development disability that caused distress to the family, leading to the father presumably divorcing his mother and leaving.
His mother now alone proceeds to blame Haruka and verbally abuses him regularly, to a point where Haruka keeps apologizing at everything, while stuttering a lot. Now he confuses attention with love and craves for it, whether negative or positive. It’s also worth to note that Haruka never really blamed his mother
Then at some point in his young life he met a girl with who gave him some positive attention and the closest he felt to love, making him fall in love with her.
Regardless of verdict, I just want my boy to go to therapy already T_T
Other neat stuff i like:
The necklace he constantly wears is most likely from his mother and I really like how close it is to his neck, feels really restraining and just shows so well how much control she really has over him.
The animation of the chorus, especially the laughing part is just so painful and desperate
hug him T_T
His hair bang covering one of his eye is a really neat way to show that he doesn’t have a clear grasp of his reality and how fcking warped his perception is. Even if it is a bit on the nose.
The part where he runs with the girls, the background doodles kinda look like fireworks. I wonder if he was playing with her on a summer festival or similar. Either way looks really cool
The song is really a banger
Everyone is talking about how its about him murdering his mom, but I think its more he murdered a childhood sweetheart who said they didnt like him anymore, and he just didnt want to grow up. The little boy is just him looking back at a younger version of himself. Many serial killers keep tokens of murders, thats what the necklace is.

I don't know how old you are but your teacher would be proud of you for this accurate and detailed analysis. The way you explained it even I could understand xD Sadly im pretty late to this project too but that doesn't matter
I came so late but thanks for the explanation! I was having trouble figuring this one out.
I think this is the result of not bringing his dog back.

the artstile changed so damn much in 2 years
I liked the old one more...
It was artsy and creative. I liked the more surreal looking symbols in most videos and the sketchy art style.

Might also explain why one of his phrases is, “I’m sorry for being dumb.”
2) The title can be transliterated as “Weak meat cannibalism”.
Mai x This is REALLY GOOD.
i love this theory it makes sense,,,, i like how you interpreted the little kid and the girl cuz i didnt see lots of ppl talk abt the girl

this song is about killing the self. he wants to go back and kill his own younger self out of guilt. when you look back and watch it, the point is that he lives dissociated from everyone except his past self. only when he (metaphorically) kills his past self does he finally realize he doesn't recognize himself, and he feels relief out of it. there never was a younger brother, it's all him. for stuff like the dog, you'll notice the dog escaped, and was bleeding. he, when younger, found his dog wounded and dying and decided to kill him out of mercy in a desperate and brutal but ultimately compassionate death. that's why he cries and is happy at the end, because he wishes someone would kill him as a kid so he would not suffer his entire life through pain and guilt. he wants to suffer a mercy kill. and he does it to himself because he believes no-one else would. no-one else understands the concept of a mercy kill the way he does
milgram rlly do be getting wild ngl

@@dragobruder6328 It might also be his mother but to be honest, I'm still not sure of what Haruka did...
So it doesn't matter if its his younger self or the girl because in his mind they're essentially the same thing and the one thing he can't figure out how to be.
i hope this makes sense its late and i'm losing my mind over haruka and his fucked up life
No it makes sense, I can understand your logic

The key symbolism to understand this video is the spotlight ! So the lyrics are all about how he wants someone to "finally notice him". The spotlight shines on his dog, his mother, and the girl. When he's with him, he has the spotlight shone on him, representing how he has someone in his life that notices and cares for him. One by one they all leave him. The mother first as shown by the blur (blood?) on her face, than the girl with blood on her face again, and finally the dog. (that's what he was hitting with the rock, the dog was bleeding out and he put him out of his misery)
Now that everything that cared for him is gone, he's grownup all by himself in the dark/underwater.
