- On the eve of the 2017 season, no one in the football industry would have predicted Damien Hardwick's Richmond would go on to win 3 of the next four premierships. This video is the story of how the club created both a truly unique team that would deliver them a dynasty and the environment that allowed them to thrive.

Was definitely something special watching the rise of the tiges. The real magic was between the 2011 and 2015 period where you could see the change unfold before your very eyes. Proud to say I saw it all unfold from the punt road end.
Amazing video btw
I think Maric had a massive impact on the locker room culture and on-field mentality as well that set the tone for that decade.
Yeah yeah it was old Dusty's new gear he got the boys on and the old faithful umpires doing there bit. 😅 Shit up
@J G True. I don't think because AFL is a boring stupid game. Soccer is just older and imbedded in societies for longer. I was brought up with both and probably forced more towards soccer but I prefer AFL. While playing soccer I felt it silly that I've got hands , I just want to pick up the ball. I guess that's why I was keeper. I've joined lgbtqafl society for those of you afl fans that get picked on by non Aussies.
Agreed but after 2016 I thought we were done for
I've always wanted to know how Richmond went from a struggling team to a powerhouse team of the AFL. Awesome video guys, keep it up.
@J G bruhhh be quite the AFL is one of the best rated sports in the world and soccer is all around the world and AFL is in one country and it is one of the most rated sports.
Tiger dynasty doesn't get enough respect or recognition - I think we as Aussies like to do the tall poppy syndrome and seeing a perennial underachiever rise to become the dominant club in the league rattled a few. Rebuilt their list during the expansion drafts without many high draft picks, won the Pandemic cup as an interstate club after spending the longest time in a hub away from friends and family, the emergence of Dusty as probably the greatest finals player the game has ever seen. A lot of people raised eyebrows when their 3-0-75 vision was unveilled but it shows ambition and good planning aren't anything to downplay or mock
Dang the emotional journey of being a tiges supporter, the pleasure has been well worth the pain
Fantastic video! I think an analysis of how Geelong have been top of the ladder contenders/avoiding a ‘rebuild’ for ~13 years would be a good topic to do a similar video on.
I was thinking exactly the same thing myself. Especially if Geelong wins another premiership within the next year or 2. Geelong started planning for the future while they were still in the process of winning their most recent premiership in 2011. That's one of the main reasons why they've continued to be a contender almost every season since then.
Ummm 2 words Stephen dank

Great Video. Honestly, I'm really hoping for the eventual day when the Swans reach Premiership Glory again, and are in the same shoes as the Tigers.
@@rorycowan5172 I know, but I'm just looking forward to the potential of the young group of players that we have in McDonald, Campbell, Warner, Wicks, McLean, Amartey, Gulden, Stephens, and numerous others that could lead us back to Premiership Glory in a couple of years.
@@Flamingbro69 it’s looking up for them they might be able to do it soon
This video is bloody great, but this one communicates the real human emotion of the time:

Good lessons here for Carlton and Essendon
killed it as always brother, unreal effort and video
Peggy and Brendan were the main reason we became a dynasty they trusted Damien Hardwick and the roster and it worked. Like they said just needed patience
Mate I lived this, including at very sad car ride back to Melbourne from Adelaide in 2014. Great vid
The research behind this and the production quality is top notch. Congrats guys - a fully entertaining watch
This was great. My heart has never really recovered from the years we had promise but kept losing things at the last minute. I never trust we have a win in the bag until after the siren now, no matter how far ahead we are.
Same here
Love the vid guys, one of my favourite from you, it deserves to become your most viewed vid and hopefully it does
Great Video Guys. A passionate Tigers fan ....feeling satisfied.
I love the Tifo Football feels of this video great job
Excellent video! I would love to see yous cover the Melbourne tanking saga - the fallout, and now seeing how Melbourne have turned it around. I think you lads would absolutely nail it.
Your videos are criminally underrated! Perfectly made!
Great video. This sort of analysis is sorely missed when it comes to AFL. Would be awesome to see some tactical analysis with in-game footage, though not sure if AFL copyright would allow this.
Just to correct.. Liam Baker was recruited during the 2017 off season, not in the 2018 off season. He debuted in 2018 against Collingwood. (Yes, the game that Higgins won goal of the year in and also when shorty kicked back to back goals from outside 50. ) ;)
Great video. Congrats Tigers
Great video, good job 👍

Interesting transformation. Be cool to see a video on their playing style / tactics.

Awesome video again bro
do one for the doggies' 2016 premiership!
@Soussy look a salty giants fan 😂
One day!... in the meantime we can highly recommend Jagger Skilbecks vid on the doggies search "How The Bulldogs Beat the AFL Draft"
@Soussy ah the team who named a medal after a player who died from a drug overdose, gotta love them buncha druggies XD
@Soussy Lol you're not one to talk when West Coast were gifted the 2018 premiership from the umpires.
@Soussy Only irony came from you and your projection. I actually support West Coast, but keeping my biases out unlike you, looking at it objectively, the umpires didn't pay a block to Collingwood in that marking contest when Sheed marked it, and also he played on but didn't get called that, which was another gift from the umpires.
Carna Mighty Tigers!!!!!!
Not enough credit is given to Terry Wallace's recruiting and the ability of the assistant coaches to get the most out of the Rookie Draft. And a whole heap of dumb luck that went our way to force some playlist changes.
Such good content. Keep it up
Can you do a video on the hawks 3 peat? Clarko made an absolute dominant team for half a decades worth of preliminary finals and there are barely any videos actually explaining how they where so dominant
I would love to see one of those videos hawks supporter for a fair while and it’s something so few talk about
need a video on the hawthorn dynasty
Which one? The 1971-1978, 1983-1991 or 2008-2015? There are even players who cover more than one of those dynasties. Matthews, Tuck, Dipper, Knights, Greene, Moore. So many great players and great years.
Damn, I didn’t know Richmond hadn’t won a final for 17 seasons. Kind of ironic that they love to pull the curtains on Essendon for not having won any, and being in a similar position themselves.
Who does that? I'm a Tiges supporter and have no idea what you're referring too. It sounds like it's the same attitude every opposition says and does to their opponents. Basically no different to anyone else.
Critics of Richmond: They're only good because they play lots of games at the MCG.
2020 AFL season: Am I a joke to you.
Okay, go back in time and play the 2017 QF in Geelong and the grand final at Adelaide oval, like it should of been.
Go change the 2019 fixture so Richmond actually have to leave Victoria and dont have the last 5 h&a games at the MCG.
Make Richmond travel as much as the WA teams have for the past 30 years straight.
Still confident?…
@@westwalk9953 should have*

@@Bloodynine606 when have they ever got their way? They finished first in 2019 but to play at the pies home ground
And if you’re gonna say 2013 the only reason why that was in kardinia park is because there were too many games at the mcg that week, so they had no choice
this is a great video

did you kind of base your style of analysis on tifo football because urs is quite similiar. great video and analysis btw!

Thx for explaining how my tigers became good
Great analysis, I’d love to see one on how Essendon bounced back from the supplement saga
They're still in the process of doing it, so it could be a few years before this one becomes a reality. But I definitely like the idea.
Bounced back?
Collingwood’s done similar drafting in the mid season draft
great video. go tiges
Neither conca or bachelor play for the tiges anymore and when conca did he was always injured
In the last round of 2016 the swans thumped them by 100+
Now it is Carltons turn!

Unfortunately now it is the end of the current Richmond dynasty
Two goals later....
Would love to see this for all clubs whether it's success or not. I personally find Richmond among my least favourite teams but it's still an interesting watch. It seems that AFL success is roughly 30% ass and 70% class given the only measure of it is a big shiny cup. My team where in the top end of the ladder for a long time but never got the silverware to prove it and therefore, are considered failures
Why is Richmond a least favourite team?
How can you have a Dynasty that has never travelled to the west and won???
Richmond are annoying in the way that just as it looks like their about to lose, they steam roll out of nowhere (First hand experience from an Essendon supporter), but I would like to see them get a three peat
Many supporters continually say the same thing about Geelong. The truth is, the best teams always believe that they can win no matter what situation that they find themselves in, and never ever give up. Opposition teams cannot have lapses for even the shortest periods in matches if they're going to beat them.

norf should learn for this
As a Saints supporter, this video gives me hope that they can learn something from Richmond
Love the videos. As a Hawthorn supporter, I have a lot of respect for Richmond and was rooting for them in all three of their Grand Finals. I really don't like the mentality of just because they're good, we must hate them. Both of our clubs have gone through this terrible mindset from opposition supporters in recent years. I didn't hate them at all, I respected them (and still do) for what they've achieved. I hope they have a strong run into the finals and go as far as possible. I also had the same respect for Geelong and Sydney despite both of them being Hawthorn's main rivals at the time.
Sadly it's tall poppy syndrome, Hawthorne have to be admired for what they achieved. We should celebrate the great players and teams while we have them cause they don't last forever. Hopefully Clarkson comes back with a new Tasmanian team.
When you go for such an incompetent team, it's hard to know how to feel about teams like Richmond. Are you jealous of their continuous success, are you angry that they keep embarrasing you, do you marvel at what they've achieved, are you hopeful because of the state Richmond used to be in is just like yours, or is it all of them at once?
Collingwood supporter?
@@garryjeffery9160 Carlton
You pay your respects. Don't be spiteful. Any teams who wins the flag deserves respect let alone being a dynasty. Of course you hate it's not your team or ask why can't yours do that? Everyone gets their time. You may be rivals but there's no point with the egotistical crap. It's pointless. And does not benefit anyone or anything revolving around the game.
@@brendonwatt6098 I hear you mate there has been alot of them and if you live long enough your time will come. Richmond deserve to be admired as much as we hate to see domination it could have quite easily port's time or Gellongs or West Coasts even Collingwood had a chance to play in back to back GF apperances. They didn't deliver in the games that mattered. Richmond did it's discipline and heart and hunger. Time goes by and great teams come and go but they don't just happen.
@@garryjeffery9160 pretty much, but the thing is, I can't stand how everyone has this Auskick mentality, let everyone have a turn crap. People were saying Melbourne deserved to win the flag for starting 9-0... Are you for fkn real? They're not even there yet. I'm not saying they don't, but no one including them is yet to prove if they deserve it. Simple fact. I get everyone wants success but as a doggies supporter I would've loved to have been alive to see the hawthorn or Melbourne dynasty, playing in 7 straight grand finals, that will never happen again. The stats like that is what made this game crazy. No one wants to see history, instead they have this oh it's their turn to win it now mentality. Respect when legendary sides like this come along and admire, because we never truly know if we'll see it again. Soon enough it'll be crazy going back to back.
Don't let this distract you from the the fact that in 1966, Al Bundy scored four touchdowns in a single game while playing for the Polk High School Panthers in the 1966 city championship game versus Andrew Johnson High School, including the game-winning touchdown in the final seconds against his old nemesis, Bubba "Spare Tire" Dixon.
that's next video...
I was at the 2017 preseason game at Moe against Collingwood, we lost the game but the change in game plan and attitude was obvious and it just seemed exciting to watch. Come round 1 in the win against Carlton I knew it was going to be a good year. What came after was/is just amazing to watch 😍
Absolutely phenomenal, really love the style and engagement. It’s just a good video, keep it up.
I'm a Geelong supporter but although Richmond had an ordinary season this year, I wouldn't write them off just yet. Football games are often won and lost according to how successful a team's game plan is. I think a lot have teams have found a way to combat Richmond's game plan. That said, it often only needs a couple of tweaks to get back on track. Richmond could well be a contender in 2022.
Loved this! As a Port Adelaide supporter this video inspires hope. I’m drawing many parallels between their long journey to success and the one we’re currently on. From the core group drafted before Hinkley, Boak + Gray. To the talent traded in, Dixon + Aliir. To the young talent drafted, Butters, Rozee, Duursma. To the near misses, ‘13 Semi, ‘14 Prelim, ‘18 after the siren of extra time, ‘20 prelim. To being labeled a team that can’t beat the top teams. The story’s pretty similar. Just hoping we eventually go all the way like they did.
But it took Hardwick 8 seasons to win a premiership, and he always improved during his time, besides the lapsed season before his first premiership year. Whereas Hinkley has been around longer (9 seasons) and keeps fluctuating back and forth with nothing to show for. Had he won the premiership, last year, then you could say it paralleled but all he can do is provide near misses every couple of years. He really should be sacked and replaced with a premiership coach like Clarkson or Hardwick if Port were brave and made such an offer to them.
I remember goingon the train back to the City after the Geelong loss,A Cats and Bomber's supporter putting shit on my club all the way back, that was the last loss of that 2017 season,I went to Y and J's ,got a few beers and thought after that loss that we can still resurrect something, what a comeback and flag, will never forget it!
As a 10 year old I bawled my eyes out in the car on the way home from docklands that night. Just makes the good times feel even better. - Andreas
