Love this! I'll be buying the plans for this and a few of the other designs.
The link to your welder works okay but out of stock, which is a shame because there's no doubt about it that you researched it very well before you bought it.
I was a pipe fitter welder many years ago (Metal Arc & Stick) was going to buy a Tig welder and plasma cutter after watching the rams skull video, but after watching the stag's head video I'm feeling that MIG is deffo the way to go. It frees up one hand and at 65 yr old and now one dodgy eye, I think I'd struggle with TIG.
Love what you're doing and sharing here Josh. You'll be getting some £'s from me this later this month on payday.

I'm going to put a ring in my long horn steer's nose. Easy to just drop it in loose as you go along!

Thank you John that's very kind. I use a multi welder at the moment that does tig, stick, mig but also pulse mig and has a plasma that I reviewed last year and I'm reviewing an updated version in my next video which may have a plasma that can be used for CNC cutting. Coming soon. Cheers J

I used to be a laser operator in a small steel fabrication shop. We made a lot of things. I made my own shop in my house basement and used scraps of steel from work to make art. I have made a lot of art but nothing as good as yours. I love your steer and I love the gaps. The light gives it a nice appearance. It is so cool how you have to maneuver the steel into place. You use simple tools. It would be cool if you had a press brake to help you preform the parts a little. You are a gifted man. Thanks for the video. 😃😃😃😃😃😃😃😃

For sheet metal, better than tongs, use a shifting spanner.
The flamey stuff is pretty awesome. I would like a version with water vapor or similar and LED´s for indoors use. Would look pretty sick, a bull head from Greek mythology.

Just challenging when welding in 1.6mm stainless. Need 3 hands.

Thank you. Spray on vinegar helps rust it quickly. I'm using renaissance wax to seal it after. I'll probably do a video on finishes as it's a good idea. Cheers J

Joshua,,,Love your work. Envious of your skill level.. Could/would you please explain your welder settings for the tacking . I'm a welding newbie and could use the help..I often burn through the metal.. Thanks in anticipation...
Thank you. What welder are you using? If using MIG recommend a mix gas like a 12%. I used 0.8mm solid wire. I'll take a look at my settings but I often change it depending on the gap and thickness. Cheers J

i dont know if your own an anvil,
that and rubber mallet is so good for shaping that type of sheet metal.
a tip for rusting metal fast some malt vinegar in a spray bottle,
then wipe it off when you have the effect that you want.

Simon, are you kidding? He's "Joshua DeLisle designer blacksmith" and almost all of his videos show him using his anvil. He's a brilliant blacksmith and artist. In this case, he's showing how to build it without an anvil.
Now I want one as a hood ornament... scaled to 1,5 times larger...

I wondered if you had made the templates with the gap, then you had "trouble" closing B and K...
I suppose that cutting all the pieces 1mm short (inward offset) would solve the problem...

Hi. Yes it was a little bit of an experiment to see how flexible the curved designs can be with or without a gap. It came together bin the end but it's really designed to be a closed gap. All the very best. Cheers J

Thank you so much for your kind encouragement. It's hard to tell exactly because filming and family delays everything a lot. I think it's reasonable to spend a weekend making one in normal hours. Fully welding and polishing will take a little longer but tacking together should only take 2 days at most. However I have an advantage of being the designer so most people may need time just to figure it out with a paper mock up first. Cheers J

What I'd like to see is the ENTIRE process of creating the flattened patterns from the 3D object.
Flattening is just a click of the button. Understanding forms that can be flattened is the key. Cheers J

@@timd9430 you can do it on lots of different softwares. I use SketchUp. But blender, SOLIDWORKS etc can also. Cheers J

Joshua, I have a suggestion that I hope will help you sell more of these. First, i love your work and videos. I've been watching four years and I cheer your successes. Here's the thoughts. First, the Longhorn is the mascot of a giant university where I live in Texas. I can't imagine there won't be some rabid longhorn fans that wouldn't be interested in this. Second, that university (The University of Texas) has a major rival named Texas A&M University. A&M has a fight song where they sing about saying the horns off their rivals mascot (btw, they don't actually do it, they just sing about it). Do a quick Google image search on "aggie saw em off" to get my idea. Anyway, I'm certain a modified version of this for the A&M crowd (charge a bit more of course) with a couple of plugs and a bracket of some sort to enable a "sawed-off" version would also be a big seller. Finally, there are high school groups here in the US called FFA (future farmers of America) and at least some schools have annual projects they have to build, and this would be a fantastic project for a small team of high school ag students just learning how to weld. Hope you can figure out how to market to those groups #tamu, #ffa, #TexasA&MUniversity, #TheUniversityofTexas. Good luck.

my nephew would like some longhorns wo the head. I am learning and new to the welding trade. I really would love to build it for him. I need help!!!! Any advice? Please?? He will mount it on his truck.
If you're starting out and want to cuve pipes I recommend researching 'pie cuts' for custom exhausts. You can taper the pipe by cutting and splitting the end to look like a long pointed crown and then close the points together to make a round-ish taper. Cheers J

I had an idea of designing the next creatures to be full bodied but with the option of just doing the bust if wanted, for example I'm doing a sitting wolf but the head is going to be modular so it can be just the head mounted on the wall instead of the whole body. But would you tell mewhat one of your sculptures would cost, if I paid someone qualified to make one off of your plans? Even a rough estimate would be helpfull, because I couldnt even guess.
Thank you, It depends on the quallity of finish but if I make one full size, fully welded, sanded, hot dip galvanised with an exterior grade blackened finish, I would be charging £1500 - £2000 + shipping. I may be able to bring the cost down once I've built my own CNC plasma table and did a batch production of parts. I hope that helps. All the very best. Joshua De Lisle
I BOUGHT THE BULL AND I THINK MY PRINT OUT DIDNT WORK WELL MY #B ON THE BULL WAS 2" SHORT...I WISH YOU COULD BUY PATTERNS BY MAIL TO AVOID PRINTING
MALFUNCTIONS...INSTRUCTIONS WOULD OF HELPED BUT 2" DISAPEARED ON A PATTERN I HAD TO ADD BUT NOTHING IS FITTING CORRECT..
I'll double check that Mike for you but It's all good my end. It is challenging to get the parts to fit with this sculpture but I hope the video addresses those difficult areas. Let me know if you need any further help. All the very best. J
@@joshuadelisle I have the same problem. No printer distortion. However B is 3.5" short, K is 2.5 inches short so I made a pattern to fit, L is short -made a new pattern. I'm TIG welding edge to edge. Fit up is a challenge but it's coming together. With the mods I've named it FRANKENSTEER !
Hi Joshua, I like the head and ears but I think the horns are too short and have too much curvature. The lenght record for a live steer is 10 foot 7 inches (ruclips.net/video/vieDhYDP_HI/видео.html). My friend Blake has some of these steers on his ranch and their horns are quite straight. On March 8 the Texas Longhorn Association will be at the Houston Livestock Show and I plan to go and get some close up photos. I think auto exhust pipe would make a good basis for the horns. Looking at your video I think pipe about 1.5 to 2.0 inch OD might be suitable but welcome your thoughts. I bought th dfx's and plan to start with a paper model. Thanks much.
Thank you Karl. I used a reference of a long horn breed but maybe a different type, I also limited it to what would be an acceptable size on a wall. Another friend suggested doing few different types of horns that could be used on the same head as he also wanted a Highland version. I'll have a good think about it. Cheers J
