That BMW V12 Engine also would later go on to power the 1999 Le Mans winning BMW V12 LMR which ironically enough was built and in part run by the Williams Grand Prix team so that means that the BMW V12 powered both Mclaren and Williams built cars to overall win at Le Mans.
@@adammercer6004 absolutely and I'm a big fan of the V12 LMR as well. I think McLaren also assisted BMW with the development of their 1996 Super Touring 320i as well but I could be wrong

The bus tour we rode to the race with had a pool going. I picked one NSX, and immediately demanded a second try. And pulled his team mate. After the race, no one had the overall winner, so I argued _I_ should get it, b/c my car had at least won its class!🤣🤣

Have to love the French commentary. And how incredible is it that the F1 GTR is such a monumental feat of design, engineering, and sporting, that it has almost entirely clouded the F40 LM from the popular imagination? Monolithic car if there ever was one.
it rained pretty much constantly from 4:45 until shortly after 2 the next afternoon. Some times harder than others, but never really dry. It was heavy at night.
If you were talking about the silver one with the black rear end, that's actually a 600SLM. It was significantly faster than the 600 LM but didn't race very often unfortunately (I only know of the 1995 Suzuka 1000KM where it finished around 7th place overall I think).
Nissan should have done what Chrysler did with the Vipers, de-tune them slightly to GT2 spec. The R33 GTR LM would have been far better suited for that.
Technically it did alright. It had the best result out of any GT1 car that wasn't a McLaren. Regarding it's pace, it seriously improved it N was pretty quick in the suzuka 1000km that year but unfortunately it burst a fuel line and caught fire
Well dominated and dominated.. they were lucky that the regulations favoured the GT for LMP or WSC. That's why there is so few entrants, and the Ferrari is particularly slow. It wasn't allowed to rev that high, as were the V8 engines. So the V6 and turbo engines had a massive advantage.. With the bad luck of every prototype, the GT cars had a good chance.. But definitely a special time in motorsport, with all the homologation, weight and all

The F40 was kinda old by then. The F50 would've been new but somehow Ferrari never entered it in GT racing, despite there being a F50 GT (which certainly has the looks)

Agreed, It was great to see them, MKIV Supras and Acura NSX's racing at Lemans. It was by far the best era for Japanese sports cars.
