I think we'll get at least something about them. If we do, it won't be a lot because they are cutting 195 original show episodes down to 46 in the new one. I wonder what's the criteria for selecting what they want for the new show.

It is played that Lum doesn't know how to properly translate and that causes the confusion, but is it possible that Lum is actually smart enough to know exactly what the words mean, know how to "mistranslate" them, and diffuse the situation?
After all, she is shown to be pretty smart otherwise. I mean, Lum knows the word for "marriage" a little too well for her own good, even at the very start of the story. That's why she's married to Ataru in the first place. I'm just saying Lum might be smarter than she let's on and found a way out of this mess.

@@kaizze8777 When I first saw the series when i was like 12 or 13 I liked Lum because she was a very original character i didn't see before (spanish dub tho) and now I see the series again can't help but think "Damn, Lum mom is more gorgeous and Lum herself" So i guess OG Lum wins for me? Not in lesbian way, I am just closer to the mother age now too i guess haha

This kind of scene is meant for Season 1 Episode 16 and Ataru is awake during this scene. Too bad that today standards and remake has changed both time and scene to make it fit under 25 minutes and will last 12-15 episodes per season. It took the high quality skills and determination of the anime studios company to finish 1 episode a week and other episodes from different anime series. It is a huge burden for both of the staff members and anime voice actors and actresses.

They didn’t go to war in the manga. The joke was about how bad Lum was at translating and how ditsy her mother was. I guess back then the animator team wanted to flex a bit but here they don’t feel the need to drastically change the story to do that.

@@Why-nv2js honestly I found it to be a bit of a plot hole that the Mendo family’s private army was able to engage the Oni’s in an air battle to a standstill. They were able to coerce the Earth’s combined forces into wagering their freedom on a game of tag after all.
@@ammash3000 I’m not sure if this is relevant to what I am saying but sometimes it’s easy to defend rather than invade. For civilization stand point, there is no way Mendo military budget or whole world military will be capable of fighting. After all what’s the point of episode 1. Maybe they lack manpower but the difference is too big.

Lum's mother says every word backwards in a similar order to the correct ones, much like DC comics Zatanna.
In the original animation she just spoke gibberish, in the original manga (comic books) her speech balloons were full of gibberish symbols (mahjong and domino tiles, wingdings fonts...).
When Lum's mother is alone with her family, her speech patterns return to normal to signify Lum and her father can understand "Oniboshigo" (the language of Planet Oniboshi) and they use it around her.

Her mother don't know speak in Japanese language. On the ship scene ... they were speaking in their language ("oniboshigo"). But for us, it was in the Japanese language... for us to understand ... I think! ^_^

アニメとしては旧作と比べると見劣りする。個人的にはオノマトペの濫用は、アニメの敗北にしか映らない。絵柄としては昨今のアニメ宜しく熟れているけど、動かせて無いよなぁ……と言う感想を禁じ得ない。

制作するには早すぎた作品である。
留美子先生の希望通りの完成度にするには今の技術しかない。
原作の良さを出すために、動きを抑えて静止画っぽくしているような気が。
オノマトペは原作の特徴なので、このアニメにこそ出すべきかと（海外向けにも）。
あとこの新作、旧作に対して「別名で保存」の作り方をしているような。「上書き保存」だと、平野さんや古川さんなどの旧作陣が消えてしまう。
