Thank you for this wonderful demo video! These are my favorite water-soluble pencils! I use Strathmore 500 series Mixed Mexia paper, which is a lighter weight paper but 100% cotton, and the Museum Aquarelle dissolve completely, and mix so well on and off the paper. The are amazingly versatile both as a dry colored pencil for details, and as watercolor! The MA white pencil can be quite opaque for highlights when I wet the tip well and then apply it over activated but completely dry applications of MA pencil. It’s also very useful for mixing. IMHO, the Museum Aquarelle line has a better, more useful range of greens than the Luminance. 035 Purplish Red is very handy for mixing both purple and violets, as well a reds and oranges, depending on the hues of blue or yellows mixed with it. I could go on and on. I love my Museum Aquarelle!
Hi WendyWells - You and I are squarely in the same camp when it comes to Caran d'Ache Museum WC pencils. They are like amazing magic wands that shoot out beautiful colors onto paper. I also use Strathmore 500 and it works great as long as you don't soak the paper right!
I'm a huge fan of the company Caran d'Ache because they actually invest in long term quality in their products.
Thanks for watching and thank you so much for sharing your thoughts!
I hope you have an artful day!
Love seeing another video from you. You know I absolutely love these pencils. But I think of all the ways to mix colored pencils these layer and then wet great.
Love the gloves. If I ever return I might borrow that idea.
Hi Karia - I love following you on social media when I see your posts. I know you haven't posted on YT for a while and I understand that completely. I had to take a bit of a break myself during the pandemic.
I love these pencils, I had a few individual ones for a while and recently got their landscape set of 20 in a sale. They dissolve beautifully. I still slightly prefer the Albrecht Dürer watercolour pencils from Faber Castell as they are a bit nicer to use when I don’t want to activate them with water. But both these lines are such great quality and a pleasure to use!
Hi Brigitte - That landscape set is really, really good. I have that one and I've used up most of the pencils over the last few years. I also love Albrecht Durer and almost always favor the high quality German products, like Schmincke and others, but I think the Swiss do an exceptional job on these particular pencils. We are lucky to have several very high quality brands to choose from! See you at the premiere!
@@owingsart I will definitely use the landscape set more in the future, the colours are so beautiful! I might have a small bias for German products 😁 but Caran d’Ache is an amazing brand - I also love their Luminance and Neocolor II lines. See you tomorrow at the premiere!!
10:19 😍 those flying hearts! I rewatched this to get a better sense of the colours you picked. You could do so much with that selection! Would love to see what you paint with these, Marty!
:-) I would paint more with these maybe when autumn arrives. Thanks for watching Berolina.
I have always been a pencil artist who has thankfully become rather accomplished a drawing animals. Now I have painted Landscapes and seascapes and oils acrylics and now watercolors and I have learned that the one thing with pencils of any type is that you have to layer them lightly over one another more than once to get a blend of color. It seems to be the only way that you can get colors to mix when using pencil of any type. You are one of the most accomplished landscape artists I have ever seen particularly in watercolor and I hope someday to become 3/4 as good as you are. I live in Phoenix Arizona and so we don't have beautiful Lush landscapes in this part of the state. I hope to be able to move up to the north-eastern part of Arizona in a few years when my husband reaches 65.
Thank you for the kind words and I hope you get your wish to move up north because it's really beautiful there in Northern AZ and such a diversity of landscapes within a short drive. Thanks for the tips on the layering.
I have been thinking about these water soluble pencils. I do have a set of inktense but after seeing this and visiting my local art store I am considering these. I have a lot of Cara d'Ach product which never disapoints so thank you for sharing
They are GREAT!!!
Always get the primary colours and a black and white that way you can make any secondary or tertiary colour you need.
That's a great suggestion - Thanks for the comment and for checking out the video.
I love them! You are inspiring to use them!!
Awwww thank you nancysharp3933.
Thanks Marty! These look amazing, you got a very well thought out selection. I was gifted a 40 set of Caran d'Ache Supracolor and they are amazing! Like the Luminance, they dissolve completely and they blend so well. I haven yet to find Caran d'Ache product that isn't excellent. I like watercolour pencils to sketch in museums, where watercolours and other wet media are not allowed. But with a few watercolour pencils and a water brush, there is no problem. I look forward to seeing what sketches you paint with your new paintings. See you on Sunday for the Premiere!
Hi Berolina - Thank for the kind words and for watching the video. You must love your set of 40 Supracolors and what a nice gift to receive. I also sketch in museums and always have to fight to get them to let me in with my watercolors. :-)
Thank you for mentioning the Premiere and it'll be nice to see you there to put a bow on this journey. Happy Saturday.
Thanks for the good video! How do these WC pencils, when you use them dry, compare with the Luminance or Pablo?
Thanks for the good question - They aren't quite as good dry as Luminance and Pablo, but they work okay dry.
How do you sharpen these? I don’t have a pencil sharpener that will fit these.
Hi There - I use a small hand sharpener. Never a machine. I use a M&R sharpener - Here is a link - They are excellent - amzn.to/3WWutRV
Thank you. I ordered one right away!
Still worth the money? Did they change then? Anything? If not than... good question🙈
More of a rhetorical question :-) Of course they are still worth the money because they are friggin AMAZING right? Thanks for watching - loved your comment.
