FIRST TIME LISTENING TO PRIMUS- Eleven REACTION
One of my fav things in the world is people listening to any Primus for the first time. It makes me childishly happy
And to watch them truly enjoy it makes me beam with pride!!! I've been to 6 of their concerts. Love me some Primus.

Yeah this song is what made me realize this band is on another level of talent. I'd recommend any Primus song..my favorites John the Fisherman, Shake Hands with Beef, Pudding time, Mr. Knowitall. Cant go wrong with Primus, very addicting band.

Eclectic Electric is soooooooo good! Antipop is one of my favourite albums. There not a singe bad second on that one.
So when I heard that odd funky meter, I started counting the beats to this song to see if it matches the title & just to be sure I looked it up, and sure enough...
Analysis: The entire song is written and performed in 11/8 time, with note groupings of 1-2-3 / 4-5-6 / 7-8-9 / 10-11. This pattern stays in place until a single measure of 12/8, heard at 2:00 in the linked video recording. The pattern is outlined most clearly in the bass guitar.

I like using odd time signatures in my own music. My favorites I've kind of pulled off so far are 5/4 and 9/8.

When he sings "they tell me they tell me they tell me" they switch to 9/8 and then back to 11/8 main riff then at "they tell me they tell me they tell me they tell me" it goes to 12/8, then it goes back to 11/8 riff when he goes "ooh who are they?". Those parts are basically the chorus and the whole song repeats after that so they do those 2 meter changes one more time towards the end.

this song is in 11/4 time signature...or 11/8? either way, count to 11 over and over-- or count 1 2 3 4 5 6: 1 2 3 4 5 -- and it makes sense rhyth-math-matically

@@opalviking right on! Never heard this song b4, but it's fairly obvious why they called it 11, if you're a musician, lol. Re-examine Time by pink floyd, which has a 7/8 (or a 7/4) time signature then going into a 4/4 signature over the solos section. Also check out Dave Brubek's Take five in 5/4 time. Primus sucks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anything by Primus is great, and Seas of Cheese is by far my favorite. That was also the first album I ever heard by them as a teen in the 90's. Jerry was a racecar driver, Tommy the cat, and American life were the first ones I heard and my favorites. Les Claypool is why I started playing bass.

I love that you’re getting into Primus, and that you’ve started with their early work and seem to be progressing through their library.. once you get the the next album Pork Soda you will LOVE the songs DMV and Nature Boy I’ve not seen anyone react to Nature Boy yet and it has one of the dopest instrumental breaks Primus ever recorded.. Rock On, and PRIMUS SUCKS!

Covered this tune circa 1991 in a bar in Rome, NY when I was 16. Drummer got a little too tipsy and since it is in 11/8 time, didn't pull it off. Bass player was pissed. That was the end of the band!

Really you should just buy their albums......all of them....they are a true Super band in all senses. Les disqualified for Metallica when their bassist died because they thought he was too good. He really is the best but the harmony of Primus is unquestionable
