@@John_Smith_86 Yes, definitely, by statistical discrimination, women take more maternity leave. However, 2 points to consider:
1) Women and men in SG (and most of Asia) bear an unequal load in child rearing currently. This can be equalised by provision of more days of paternity leave. If the load were to be more equalised, we would have more well-adjusted children (based on Scientific research) as well as a more "efficient" society by ensuring females remain more engaged in the workforce. This would also render your argument of maternity leave being a reason for "discrimination" moot.
2) Males and females, either by biological differences or by societal influence, may have different qualities. Companies benefit from having both qualities at play in their pool of employees. Private companies driving for maximum financial gain would wish to earn money from both males and females. Hence, having both genders as your employees brings more perspectives to the table to target both demographics. Even if a particular market is more dominated by one gender (i.e. gaming), no company will give up on improving their chances of selling to the other gender as well.
Hence, all in all, discrimination by gender with regards to employment is a rather uninformed myopic point of view.

I totally understand about the long hair flicking thing.
