Ive been using TH-U for ages and I love it, I always get compliments on my guitar tone. But man that UI is so frustrating at times.
You are totally right!, what I've been doing is taking my time creating the correct sound and layout then I apply it to my track. But when I need to do changes or adjustments is a paint in the butt!
The other software I have been using is IK Multimedia AMPLITUBE 3, amazing sounds and the navigation is so much smoother.
Love me some Amplitube. That interface is much more friendly.
I like the cpu usage - ill sacrifice that ui for great tone and low cpu hit any day
100% agree. Let me place items where I want them to be for my own tastes.
I totally agree! You have an answer to be considered - use the space above and below the line up, at least. Guitar players (and me) come in my studio and are blown away but have the same comments! I let them, of course, grab my controller and do their settings but very hard when, especially with tweaking, and have to do "the back & forth" dance! Thank you Roy for bringing this up. BUT like allot of people say, the sounds are awesome !!
Thanks Duane!! All it needs is few tweaks. It already sounds great. Just fix the layout a bit! Hopefully we’ll see an update.
Yep I do agree, bias FX 2 nailed it with the pedalboard view
Wow. Interesting. I like the interface, and find it very easy to navigate. You can zoom in or out in half a second using the % buttons, and you can always see the layout in the smaller overview window down below. And I hope all y'all realize that you can zoom in to whichever component you want to adjust simply by clicking on it in that overview.
I'm not just being contrary, in fact, I liked the look and the functions of the interface before I even decided if I liked the sounds or not. I like the linear layout, because you can see the flow of the signal at a glance.
I haven't tried every amp sim out there, just Ampire, Guitar Rig, S-Gear, and now Th-U, which is easily my favorite so far, for sound and function. I use my old red kidney shaped Line 6 Pod more than Ampire or Guitar Rig, and I uninstalled S-Gear because I thought it sounded bad and hated the interface.
So there you have it, a vote for TH-U. :-)
Thanks Sarah! I agree to an extent. The linear set up does makes sense. BUT it’s just not easy to be speedy with that format, especially with longer signal chains. It “works” but it doesn’t work for my pace. To each their own!
@@RoyThompsonAudio Well, also, it's a little simple for me because I would never use that many stomps and rack processors within the amp sim. Sometimes all I have is the amp and cabinet, maybe a tube driver or compressor pedal, maybe a chorus pedal, but ususually I deal with compression, chorus, etc in the mixer. Sometimes I don't even attach a cabinet, if I like the sound without it. :-)
100% agree! The UI of TH-U is a huge problem for me as well. Even though TH-U sounds WAY better, I think the clunky UI is why I keep reaching for GR5.
It really does sound great. Shame the UI isn’t more intuitive.
Agree 100%. Said the exact same thing on the Slate FB group.
Thanks for that!! Glad I’m not crazy!!
I agree! I can't use this plugin at all. It might sound amazing but it is not worth the terrible user experience. It is very uninspiring to work this way!
I feel your pain!
I agree, love the sound but hate this navigation system
Feel this big time. Love it's sound....can't stand its interface. As a company that came up with VMR, slate should have had a meeting with them before allowing it on their platform.
It just needs a FEW tweaks. It could be great.
Just click on what piece of gear you wanna tweak in the mini window on the bottom right and the main window snaps right to it.
Totally agree. The gui is so annoying. Considering another solution just because of it. Horizontal scrolling is a no no! ABC in gui design.
I heard they were re designing it (Slate mentioned it) but I haven’t seen anything since.
Totally true!
Very professional video for how small-time you are. I see big things your way :)
I appreciate it!! Thank you!
Agree is badly layed out. Great sound
Thankfully it sounds good 😂 would be even more a shame if the layout was great and it sounded terrible
I agree
Agree man, this can definitely be done better.
Hopefully they’ll improve it!
Slate subscriber here, and hate this plugin's interface as well, the interaction designer must never use it by him(of her)self.
Jyun what’s the difference between Slate edition and Full edition? Do you get less amps etc with the Slate edition?
@@PeterDunbar I dont own full edition but can tell there is way less amp model in slate edition.
yea this plug in sounds great but has a horrible user experience..
What if they create it in more rows?
I think that would be helpful!!
I like the plug but it's not waay better than other amp siims that are out there....it's just different. I'm with Roy here the interface it is clunky and not intuitive to use. At the end of the day I find myself going to other amp siims just to get my work done quicker. The thing is that well over 75% of a guitar's tone comes off the player's fingers. So if I have time to dive into the TH U and tweek and learn how it works I'm all in....but that isn't usually the case. It would be nice to see Slate address what Roy is sayng here....it would help me for sure.
Thanks for sharing Caroline! Slate actually wrote back on the Facebook forum! He also agrees and seemed like he would pass the word along to the developers 😊
I actually found this video while searching for a how to video for the th-u. I thought maybe i wasn't using it efficiently or maybe i misunderstood the workflow. It sounds much better than guitar rig 5 but the workflow is terrible
I would love to do a follow up actually showing THU off - it really does sound great! ...shame they still have not updated the interface.
It does sound great and i think the idea to make it look like a live rig is kinda cool it just needs some streamlining.
Use the RIGPLAYER ..at least you have the Overdrive +Amp + cab will be streamlined in 1 box... TH U's stock amps and cabs are kinda meh anyways...
That makes sense. Funny enough, I never really enjoyed the rig player when I tested it (haven’t dove too deep). Maybe I should give it another chance.
@@RoyThompsonAudio The Rig Player is the most realistic computer ampsim to date IMO. .and I own a Kemper! just make sure you put Choptones profiles in it
3 years later it still hasn't been fixed.
Ha! Steven Slate himself said they'd work on it, so I'm surprised they never did.
Why on earth is no one pressing the gear in the small window!?! You're going straight to the unit.
The workflow is cumbersome considering how much available screen real estate is wasted. It’s an efficient GUI. Steven Slate himself has agreed in the Slate Audiophiles Facebook group.
I agree. It's a pain in the ass. But I'm not happy with the sounds either.
The user interface is horrible, no question about it, but their rig player sounds amazing.
Love the sound! I still use it regularly despite the GUI 🤘
More time playin and less noodlin, i mean: yes the interface is a little bit unfriendly, but what a sound?? and cpu usage? what a fucking sound compared to amplitube? or guitar rig? maybe are they more user friendly? i don't think so. Bias offers 10% of that features...s-gear sounds amazing... but too poor choices in terms of amps and tweaking.
I think it's best amp sim on the markete for billions reasons. Once you find your sound... that's all you need. And for live use you can always add some midi foot controller.
I'm not payed from overloud, but after years i finally found a really great software.
I will happier when thu's guys will upgrade interface... but meantime... more playin and stop "goofing around". Cheers
Yeah you are crazy...How the hell would you solve what you are calling a problem? lol
I think you're kinda nitpicking.
You say "Imagine if you're on a laptop."
Guess what, you're NOT on a laptop so why does this bother you so much?
Do you really need to fiddle with controls that much? I mean, do you just add FX for shits and giggles, or do you have a plan when you add an effect?
Just nitpicking at your nitpicking is all.
I thought I did a pretty decent visual explanation when I zoomed out. It wastes a ton of space when I fill my entire monitor.
Not a huge deal, but no doubt, it’s inefficient GUI design. Slate agreed himself. He also said they’d address it in an update. 🤷♂️
The reasoning for adding more FX is not the point. I can add whatever I want. I just want it to fit on the damn screen better. 😂
@@RoyThompsonAudio So, more of a NI Guitar Rig kind of layout?
