DIY vtec killer setup-Budget K swap

  • In this video I finnaly break down the top end of the k24a1 and install the k20a2 cams and k24z3 rockers. The purpose of this mod is to give this engine True vtec by riding on the upper lobe and eliminating the need for a vtec solenoid. This is a great mod for any one running a non 3 lobe vtec motor such as a k20a3, k24a1/a4. It makes good power on a all motor setup and should do just as good on boost. Any questions?     Just replaced my timing chain, guides, and tensioner about 5 months ago, and now a cheap cam set on FB marketplace is making me want to go through all the trouble again to do this 😂

    Good video I had a k24vtec killer setup. Great Powa for the price. Side not update that valve train. I almost gernaded a motor at a trackday, was only reving to 7600RPM.

    I have done a similar set up before and lost almost all drivability on my daily. So I removed Vtec killer and used my Hondata to give me vtec after 2k rpm with effectively the same results but allowed me to daily it. Cold cranking a vtec killer set up can be a process lol

    Great video, I just wanted to make sure since you are working on a k24a1, can I do the exact same thing by also using the k20a2 cams and k24z3 rockers on a k20a3?

    Well i hope you UPDATED you motor with this set up you needed to really block the oil port and also upgrade the oil pump to a type s pump

      You only need to upgrade the oil pump if you plan on high revving the motor

    Hey Chris, do you think its a good idea to swap for bigger injectors and maybe a better fuel pump as well for this setup? Im trying to aim for 230ish hp by adding other addons too.

      For this particular setup I will be putting larger injectors and fuel pump once I know the engine and transmission are good and start with getting the turbo setup on. For all motor my eg k24 setup is a pretty good setup for your goals if you check that build series out

      It would work, but you wouldn’t be able to tune it with kpro so it might not run as good as it should

    hey man, are you using a kpro to control this setup? do you unplug the vtec solenoid wires or do you leave them plugged in and tune with kpro?

      Yes this was ran in kpro, you can unplug the plugs going to the vtec solenoid since they won’t be used

    Great video. Did you need to modify the rocker arms? Are you running supertech dual springs?

      Rocker arms were all from a. K24z3, when running 8 exhaust rockers from that you don’t need to modify the rockers it’s just bolt on. The valve train was completely stock on this car other than the cams and rockers

      @@hondarob178 not able to say so, but with the z3 exhaust rockers you clear stock no problem unlike the a3 and the others so it might fit just fine.

      @@ChrisBuilt92 ok sounds good ill have to look into it i know kmod website says to use beehive springs or another oem retained if upgrading valve springs wasnt sure if you have tried any. Did you just get your rockers from the junk yard or order them from somewhere I cant seem to find anywhere. Any recommendation?

    So what if you want to do VTEC killer setup on a K20A2? What would you change out on top end? Rocker assembly wise? Or not? Thanks in advance

      You could just run the k24z3 rockers and you will be in vtec all the time

    This might be a dumb question but could I use my k24a1 exhaust rockers on my exhaust cam and put k24z3 exhaust rockers on my intake cam and get the same results?

    hi, do you use stock pistons on setup?i read that k20a2 or k24a2/3 cams don't work with stock k24a1/a4/a8 pistons,may hit valves piston when vtec kick's, so need to use a2 or a3 pitons on block or aftermarket.

      The a4 or a8 might have issues, the k24a1 shares many similarities with the k20a2 and a3. This engine was 100% stock internally and never had issues. Valve train can have clearance issues if you go with a more aggressive 07-0 tsx cams. There is also no vtec with the “vtec killer” your always riding the vtec lobe on the cam when you do this

      Cams can run you 100+ and the exhaust rockers can be expensive. I just eBay and didn’t find them. But there was another “vtec killer” rockers for sale for 350$ way more then I spent sourcing them from the junkyard

    Hey bro ? I just found your channel and was wondering do I need k pro ? I was thinking of running k tuned immobilizer and trying to go that route do I need k pro for it to run or can I just use a 6spd or 5spd ecu ?

      You can get away with using the immobilizer bypass, but I would use the ecu that matched the engine. For a k24a2 you would have to use kpro because the throttle body is electronic. You can get away with it but I wouldn’t recommend

      In my case the k24a1 I’m using Comes stock with a 50* vtc. Many k series engines benefit from it as long as the piston and valve have clearance to support it

      For this setup the goal was to keep it simple and as cheap as possible. So that whole pump setup will stay. Maybe if this works out well I’ll put in a k20 pump

      Yes you can but if it’s too aggressive you’ll have to change out the valve train

      @@jrhoonigan8811 valve springs and the hardware with it, gotta make sure the clearances are good so there is no piston to valve contact, better off with the type s cams or the k24a2 cams
