Nice. I was prepared to be disappointed since I knew Kelly Bailey was not going to have any part in the creation of Half-Life Alyx's sound design except for what he already created for the previous games. However I am super glad that I did NOT have to be disappointed with this atmospheric ambiance. Its not often credited by reviews and most players in general, but I personally thought the atmosphere in half-life 2 was the best thing ever. The Ravenholm ambiance in my first playthrough of hl2 was the first time I really noticed the ambiance and as soon I picked up on it, I couldn't stop listening to it in every map after Ravenholm. The Overwatch is something most people don't pay attention to since its a set of dialogue that plays mostly in the background, but for me, I was blown away when I disabled the first Perimeter Restricter at the Nova Prospekt coast and you could hear the overwatch announcer report your actions to the combine and eventually started to give orders to stop whatever was going on, and then once they found out it was freeman that was doing it, they started reacting more seriously. Even more so, I was shocked when the first combine soldier discovered I am controlling the antlions to fight against them and his report to the combine and overwatch is a confused, "primary target is, uh engaged in, uh, command and control tactics with biotics?" It's all those little things that add up to a really believable and immersive atmosphere that I have yet to see in any other game to this day. For everything that Half-Life 2 perhaps did wrong with its gameplay, I have always been able to forgive and overlook its flaws just because that ambience and atmosphere is so rich and littered with fantastic small touches. I am prepared for a new era of content to dive into and explore with Half-Life Alyx and its new dialogue and sound design choices.
