Very useful to know, thank you.

The biggest crime is that bikes are tolled in the first place.

I'm trying to figure out the correct way to use toll tags on bikes for a future trip. They worked perfectly in a car on previous trips even through the 30kph lane. The same would apply to keep a distance between the bikes but its making sure you get charged the lower fee

I don't think the system is clever enough to work out the lower fee for bikes. I reckon I have always been charged the same as a car when using the tag lanes.

IDK about in Europe, but I know in NY, USA, you need to register the tag specifically as a motorcycle tag, and then they give you 50% off the cash toll. When the cash toll was 10% more than the EZ pass toll (same as non-NY EZ Pass), this was a decent deal... car was 90% cash toll, bike was 50% cash toll, a saving of 40%. Now the cash toll is 30% more than the non-NY EZ Pass toll, which itself is 10% more than the NY EZ pass toll... car is 90% out-of-state toll, bike is 65% out-of-state toll. That said... since they've switched to toll by plate, they stopped applying the discount on my EZ Pass, annoyingly enough. Emails to contact them are for naught.

@@GaryFrance_Tour1 Of course it is. French bikers would have staged a revolution if it weren’t! I’m using a toll tag in France and Spain and I’m consistently charged as a category 5 vehicle i.e. a motorcycle.

You cannot do that. Make sure she has a credit card or cash at the ready. Many card readers are contactless these days, so its really easy.

The automated ones charge you the rate for a car instead of the cheaper motorcycle rate.

That’s not what happened to me last fall. I got the motorcycle rates (class 5) all right on a trip from Belgium via Paris to Spain and back using an electronic toll badge.

@@jschoofs I was talking about the unmanned booths mate

@@notmyname4261 OK, that was not what I understood when you talked about “automated ones”. Anyhow, when you ride the bike at the lefthand side of the lane (i.e. where the left hand tires of a car would go) you will get billed at motorcycle rate unless you mistakenly (or not) are using a non-motorcycle lane.

@@jschoofs I've been many times and never seen a motorcycle lane, they're all the same. It's either manned, unmanned or toll tag. If it's unmanned, which is more often than not, you get charged full car rate regardless of how you ride through.

@@notmyname4261 You need to work on your reading comprehension: I wrote some lanes are marked as non-motorcycling lanes and obviously they will not recognise motorcycles. The others will if you use them as I explained. I’ve used the ticket based system a lot with my 🏍️ before I got the electronic tag last year and I was always billed the motorcycle tariff. Do you really think French bikers would use this system if they would have to pay car tariffs? Over and out.
