Vanderbilt vs. Virginia Tech PREDICTIONS | 2024 College Football Predictions

Chase Robinson and Chris Lee preview Vanderbilt’s opener with Virginia Tech at FirstBank Stadium in Nashville, Tenn., at 11 Central on August 31 (shown on ESPN). Topics include:
- Virginia Tech quarterback Kyron Drones is a dual threat who’ll lead the Hokies' offense again this year. He’ll have a number of returning offensive standouts in Da’Quan Felton, Jaylin Lane and Byashul Tuten along with a mostly-returning offensive line.
- The Hokies' defense ranked top-20 nationally last year thanks to corners Dorian Strong and Manor Delane, along with defensive linemen Antwaun Powell-Ryland and Aeneas Peebles.
- Vanderbilt’s new-look offense has a heavy New Mexico State influence with Jerry Kill and Tim Beck coaching the offense. Kill and Beck brought quarterback Diego Pavia with them to try to establish a ball-control offense that’ll feature Junior Sherrill, Cole Spence, Eli Stover, Sedrick Alexander and a rebuilt offensive line.
- The Commodore defense, led by a secondary including CJ Taylor, Randon Fontanette and De’Rickey Wright, should get better under the direction of Clark Lea, who’s now Vanderbilt’s defensive coordinator. All-SEC linebacker Langston Patterson and a defensive line with improved depth will also help.

Sharp money was all over this game when it came out at 12 points, as 90+% faded the Hokies. Tech's defense is going to be more like a Bud Foster defense. The Sharps drive the line up to 14 within hours of the line opening at 12.
