I hope you get to attend one, i attended pride twice and they were pretty great for the most part. However, i do understand your concern. My second pride event was awful, as right wingers were throwing butyric acid onto the side walk and street we were walking on, not a very pleasant smell.

Especially the religious.
I don't. Which is why I don't need to hear about it for a solid month. I think y'all should have your civil rights; every human being should. Who you date is really none of my business in general but the community keeps trying to make it my business. See the distinction? I'm a person of faith but I don't need to advertise it with logos or colors or talking to everyone about it all the time. If they want to hear, that's fine. I'll sit down with an individual.
@@user-wh5ir4fo4r Pride Month exists to educate, remember, and inspire our continuing fight against oppression and for our rights. However, what you described is rainbow capitalism, when corporations capitalize on this with fake support to make a quick buck off the naive. We don't like this either.
@@user-wh5ir4fo4r the month is in remembrance of the numerous hateful attacks and killings of people for being part of the lgbt+ community, and the subsequent push back by the community through protests and riots. It's a celebration of those people who gave their lives to make it possible for lgbt+ people now to have basic human rights. It's akin to a celebration of veterans, people who gave their life for an ideal. So, are you against veteran month as well? Are you against the celebration of the liberation of people of color in the US, or the remembrance of heroes like MLK? Are you against all of that?
If you are not, but still think pride should not exist, then you should probably spend soem time to think about why this celebration specifically makes you angry. If celebrating human resilience andcourage is fine as long as they are not gay, that's not a matter of dislike or distaste, it's prejudice.
it's so scary that even in safer areas, you can get yelled at or harassed for wearing some colors. i live in a safer area and one time when i was walking to a pride parade with a flag in my hand and i got yelled at by cars passing by. along with that, i am very obviously a minor. it's so sad that there is basically no entirely safe spaces for lqbtqia+ and bipoc people in this world. make an effort to buy from queer supporting places and try to ignore people around you that act bigoted or homophobic. On our way out, we saw our first group of protesters waving signs with Bible verses at the festival-goers, and next to them was a music group that was part of the Pride event. So not wanting to pass up an opportunity to troll the protesters, we didn’t just walk past them-we _danced_ past them to the music that was playing and pretended to be totally oblivious to the protesters! I'm a non-binary bisexual living in Russia, celebrating pride online and by hanging out with my bestie, I also wear pins with my flags, good thing that nobody here,at least in my town, knows anything but the rainbow (unless they're queer themselves) so I don't get shamed/bullied or worse for it. There are (almost) no more queer books on the shelfs,I have bought a few before the relativrly recent laws were enforced. And yet "Good omens" is still sailing, perhaps bigots just think the main characters are just "very good friends" lol.
I had to order my pins online from another country, btw.
The laws so far (cos they can get worse) don't affect me too much,I still can live and have fun as before so the biggest problem for me right now is my father. My mom is relatively phobic too but far less than him and she's far more understanding, getting more accepting of the new things year by year, she's mostly just not informed enough and no used to queerness, she's alright with gays existing but she reeeeeally wants grandkids so when she found out I'm bi she was mad cos she was afraid that she wouldn't get any :p Even though I'm dating an opposite sex person for 4 years now (2 years back then but still). I can see her becoming supportive eventually :) I love her and she supports me in literally everything else, including me being goth with all the heavy make up, she lets me wear whatever (I'm 20) while my father (I'm afab) was yelling at me for wearing a corset even though it was on top of a long sleeve shirt with no cleavage and I had long pants too. He said that I looked very vulgar and he wouldn't let mw go outside,I was 18 back then. He even called my mom expecting her to support him but she didn't even understand what was the issue😂 My father is irredeemable in my eyes cos he's sexist, homophobic and transphobic, hates plenty nationalities, claims he's not racist cos he likes one black and one chinese actors while he still says plenty racist stuff, he hates on all religions that aren't christian and obvi justifies his hatred for the queers with his religion. He always thinks he's right and that he can't possibly make mistakes,he always starts arguments for no reason and overall I only still am attached to the version of him that I knew and loved as a kid, the current him only awakens negative feelings in me.

It’s kind of jarring to me that people are this upset about pride month when a few years ago no one I knew even cared
I also still think it’s ridiculous that Christians still think being gay means going to hell. I know there where only like 100,000 people back then so reproduction was a serious problem
But even being straight back then was considered to be unnatural. Since they thought it was only ok to be like that to reproduce
But there’s plenty of straight people that are active in relationships and still have a lot of love to give and people don’t seem too upset about that
Then again I tried telling some of my bi and pan friends that “I feel bad since I don’t think there’s a healthy environment for this kind of stuff yet” and some people listening thought I was homophobic or portraying gay people as being violent which also isn’t true so maybe I’m another idiot
I feel like people aren’t so much debating about right or wrong anymore, but more so debating on how to make the world more enjoyable. And honestly I quite like that more but it’s a really weird situation to be in since we’re so used to black and white thinking that if we don’t understand or care about something we immediately think it’s a bad thing
It’s weird because I feel like I can’t even joke about these things right now because I wouldn’t even know how to go about it
As long as no one’s getting hurt I don’t care what you do with your private life

To both replies here, if we go quiet then we get pushed out. If we don't fight for our rights then we lose what we have. Women fought for their rights. It’s very very frustrating to me that I cannot afford to properly protest anti-trans laws in my state.
I know for a fact I could bring a lot of attention to the bathroom laws if I just went and FOLLOWED them because I would definitely be arrested for that.
But besides the fact that I’d very likely be assaulted as well, and who knows the consequences to that til it happens (again), I need to keep my job, I can’t afford a lawyer, I need to make tips as many days a week as possible to pay rent bc it’s too damn high and business is too damn slow (and a lot of people take advantage of servers and don’t pay us properly).
This is how they perpetuate this stuff. How many people are in a position to get assaulted and thrown in jail voluntarily and continue their lives just fine?
I understand how you feel. That's why we need to organize and stand up. Maybe there are some things we can't do but there are some things we can do. Spread the word of project 2025 and vote this November. Educate people who don't understand LGBT people but are not hostile. Express yourself and be proud. Visibility is key. The more visible you are the more people see the community and public opinion switches towards LGBT acceptance. Sad that even in this day and age LGBT still have to deal with this but the fight continues.

I remember in 2019, there was a first Pride march organised in one of the towns in Poland, called Białystok. The people marching there were attacked and chased down by people who just wanted to hurt them, and a lot of arrests were made afterwards, but the event itself shook the entire LGBTQ+ community here in Poland. I immediately thought of it after the intro here.
As an Iranian trans girl (still in the closet) i feel like I’m suffocating while trying to live under this theocratic dictatorship, though Iranian society is starting to become more open minded and accepting after the WLF movement which is nice.
This year I actually came to terms with my sexuality (bisexual) and it feels like for me that more and more people have turned against the LGBTQ+ community cuz they just cannot accept that we are all comfortable in our own skin
I am from India and I am Gay, one known person to me and my mom just came out as Trans and another known person to us came out as Lesbian. The reaction of my mom to those was very surprising (I am not out yet) she said if I were to come out as Trans ever she would abandon me although she didn't said anything about lesbian/gay. I am the only child of my parents and I am very close to my mom, she can never live without me but when I heard if I were to come out as Trans she would abandon me broke me into pieces because she might be having Anti-gay views too as here in India, they don't distinguish between Trans and Gays. 💔💔
It also sucks that it’s also happening from within our own community………..
With progress there is always pushback…I’m hopeful this hate too will pass
It gets worse before it gets better?
I dont have a rainbow flag but I am flying the Gay male and lesbian colors right now.
I truly feel much sympathy and empathy for my sisters and brothers in the LGBTQ+ community in repressive countries. I know how you feel, because I was once right there with you. I'm a black/mixed race transgender woman who is a US American and retired years ago. I am 73 years of age now and i needed to escape the US because I was tired of fighting the covert as well as the overt hostility that existed around me every single day of my life and I needed relief. When my circumstances were finally right I made my escape to Latin America and eventually settled in Mexico where every day feels like a dream. I have more safety and peace of mind then I could have dreamed possible. I am now a legal resident of Mexico and can apply for permanent residency in just under four years. This took me a life time to accomplish, but i say to all of you who are currently living under oppresive circumstances please don't give up, that's what the bigots want you to do. Work hard and figure out your escape plan you can do it and be safe.
I truly think this will get better as time goes on. We are in the backlash phase of our civil rights movement, but the more time passes with us normalized and in the mainstream, the more acceptance will come. ❤

I don't care about them. To hate in such a way means they hate themselves. They are jealous that we are free to love and do so passionately. We are free to throw away their traditions of conformity and express ourselves as humans as humans were meant to be...diverse and unique.

I don’t care what your sexuality, gender, or fetishes are. Live, & let live. Just don’t become arrogant, & make the same mistakes that you claim your oppressors have made in the past towards you. The moment you become arrogant, & intolerant is the moment you become the very evil you claim to fight against. At that point, you lose ALL credibility, & paint a target on your back.
Trying to shut down Pride is anti free speech.
@@bryanmiller8604 it’s illegal to “live and let live” as a member of the LGBTQ+ community in at least 67 countries. If queer people are angry and frustrated at the situation they live in and see others living in, it is not the same as what their oppressors do to them. Your comment reads like a weird threat to queer people to be the perfect victims and just continue to endure the hate and violence that they face. The community has no power to do what society does to them, so your comment is completely random and unnecessary. You’re telling LGBTQ+ individuals that they will have a “target on their back” and “lose all their credibility” if they become intolerant? Intolerant of what? Hate and violence? If you don’t care about people’s sexuality or gender, just say nothing instead of commenting vaguely threatening things in order to fear-monger queer people.
@@existentialimp3120 Then, perhaps those are the countries you should be focusing your time, efforts, & resources in to envision the changes you feel are necessary. America has laws on the books to protect people from crimes committed, especially those deemed as “hate crimes.”
Far to often though from a historical perspective it seems that the noblest of efforts are corrupted by those who resort to using the exact same tactics of their oppressors to over-compensate in the hand of justice, & equality. My warning was not intended as a threat, but as cautionary advice not to allow yourself, or your cause to be consumed by hatred, & bigotry in the guise of justification, & in vain arrogance to rewrite the wrongs history to suit you comfort zoned, safe spaces. Otherwise, you invalidate yourself, & your cause; becoming the very monster you claim to fight.
That’s why I prefer to remain diplomatic, & be if the sentiment of live, & let live, unless there is a clear, & present danger that can not be avoided in any other manner than violence. Once the safety is off, & one goes in hot, you can not undo what has been done. All life is sacred, & should be cherished. Even if at some point in time where you may be put into a position in which you must end a life. It should still be honored in memory; even an enemy’s.

The more that time goes by, the less likely I can see myself ever going to my first pride. When I realized that I was queer I would wear the paraphernalia related to my identities and would display them out in public quite a lot, but slowly and surely I have lessened wearing anything prideful (even when it's not June) because of the area I live in. I live in a small rural town in the South, and although I do absolutely hate the conception that Southerners aren't accepting or that there aren't queer Southerners, there is intolerance in the area I specifically live in, and no, I cannot move, I'm too poor to do that nor do I feel like I have to be the one to do so. I did go to a drag queen event back in 2021, but drag performances have been banned in my State (though there was plenty of talk about removing the ban) and any "male and female impersonators" are to be reported, which automatically lumps in visible trans people, so someone like me and everyone else who I know that is trans; friend or stranger. I want to be hopeful, I want to go to my first ever pride without risking being shot, but to be honest it may end up taking more than our current peaceful protests to change anything and to secure our safety and rights. And that's *not* me saying that I don't think those kinds of protests *aren't* working, because there has been just a few instances of State laws against queer people being lifted because of them, but things are still quite shit.
I went to a pride event without any problems or protests so that's good
