In 2003, a pastor who took me and my family (my dad was a pastor too) to visit another pastor's house in MD said "watch, they always leave the door unlocked, even when they leave bc it's a great neighborhood". And sure enough, he walked in while we looked from the car. We thought it was cute.
PLEASE PEOPLE, LOCK YOUR DOORS as soon as you walk in. Lock all windows when you go to sleep too.
Never understood why. It takes no effort and zero time to lock your door.
In a rooming house I was in, I locked both the top and bottom locks. And one weekend the guy who lived in a trailer outside broken in and stole a bunch of stuff when he was drunk.
The other roommate yelled at me for locking two locks . It was crazy

This was one of the reasons why I hated staying the night with some relatives. They didn't believe in locking their doors either.
Yea growing up we left our door unlock in the neighborhood no one would try robbing a cops house or if they do they aren’t smart.

@@BradOrzo not all muders are prosecuted on a federal level. Most are state crimes. Certain criteria has to be met for it to be prosecuted federally. And even if a state doesn't have a death penalty, it can be given at a federal level. Most of the time the US prosecutor will still follow the state's sentencing guidelines but there has been a few times that it hasn't.

That point, and the fact this *wasn't* done with a gun, may well quash any interest in reporting this.
I had a neighbor like this and just knew that something would happen with him eventually. There were a few occasions where I was pretty sure he was considering attacking my wife while she was outside alone, so I got her a gun to keep at the house while I was out. Later that year we woke up at 2am to gunshots and yelling and I looked outside to see police cars all over the street. He had gone to the gas station down the street and shot and killed the clerk for no reason, then got into a shootout with the police and didnt survive. He was schizophrenic and it was terribly sad to see a man with so much pain and mental anguish, but they couldn't afford to keep him an institution or provide proper care for him. These people can be incredibly dangerous and we're just ignoring them and leaving them to starve on the streets when the families cant handle it anymore. This country needs to take a serious look inwards and stop worrying about funding foreign wars.

I have a sibling who's schizophrenic and me myself too suffer from chronic mental health, mostly depression with occasional and sometimes often schizophrenic episodes. Never ever touched street drugs including weed and very occasionally drink a beer.
Mental health sucks - and as you put it, the anguish someone like me goes through could probably never be described in words. But people who are severely schizophrenic live in another world entirely and for their crimes, you can't really get mad at them and one would understand if they had a loved one that suffered from something like this or they occasionally had these episodes.
I firmly believe the social services need to step up in keeping these kind of individuals in check and provide help including safe for everyone living accommodations. No one chooses to be ill on purpose and any healthy human being out the blue can start to experience these conditions. Here in Canada we haven't received remotely enough help concerning our mental well being and to socialize us and help recover. Yet we have millions third worlders poring in each year and each month. You can visit any remote city and town here and you will feel like you were in a freakin slum in india. It continuously feels like a dream/nightmare which never feels coming to an end.

Statistically false. Gun violence has been on the decline since the 1990s. Information travels faster with the availability of the internet now which is why it seems like things are getting worse. I still agree to a degree, I’m armed basically any time I leave my home and a firearm is always signing an arms reach in my home.

I remember hearing about this local girl I graduated high school with. Her name was Brittany. Very beautiful girl...honestly, she was gorgeous and also very smart and incredibly sweet as well. I heard she was going to college to become a special education teacher...
In July of 2011, she was savagely murdered. Only 19 years old. According to the media's timeline of events (as told to them by the investigators), Britt was at our neighborhood's local library and she went to use the bathroom. I guess all she had on her was her phone and a magazine to read while she was doing her business. And apparently she had some creep stalking her and he was seen waiting outside the bathroom door for her for a few minutes. Some time passed before he went into the girls bathroom, approached the stall Britt was sitting in and shot her repeatedly through the stall door with a Glock 19 pistol that he had concealed up until that point. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Afterwards, the bastard went back to his house and shot himself in the head. He lingered for a few days but died nearly a week later.
A little time later, we all learned that Britt didn't even know this guy was stalking her but investigators found messages from the creep in her spam box on messenger. Messages she never saw. Messages from this guy basically saying that he was watching her movement everyday. Things like, "did you get everything you needed at Giant Eagle?" And "what were you getting at Petco earlier?"...just so damn creepy in retrospect. Especially considering this guy was in his late 50's and again Brittany wasn't even 20 years old yet...
Anyways, it's a sick world we live in. It's scary to think about how people can easily kill other human beings, so unexpectedly, so randomly, and at times, when we're in very vulnerable spots...
You mentioned being stuck in a vulnerable attack...well, my biggest fear is being stuck inline at a fastfood restaurants drive thru and theres a guy in front of me and he parks his car and gets out with a gun raised at me and the other drivers behind me...

We used to be able to go to sleep at night with our doors unlocked and our windows open for a fresh night breeze. Not now. I immediately lock every door behind me as I enter my home, keep my windows closed and locked in any room which is unattended even for a few minutes, and rely on my two dogs to alert me when someone is encroaching on our property outside, or God forbid trying to get in. Two large (50-60 lbs.) barking dogs are a pretty good deterrent and alarm system. This kind of tragic story is why I am so cautious. You just never know when someone in the area -- any area -- is going to endanger you or your family. Terribly sorry that these innocent people were attacked in and near their homes, where they should have been safe. Rest in Peace.

What should have happened is the guy who called 911 should have then stepped out on his porch and eliminated the threat. We’ve become so sheep like that we no longer care about looking out for our fellow humans. I’m sorry for all who lost their lives, but out of all of them, I can picture the absolute terror on those girl’s faces and it makes me so angry. This was senseless.

Unfortunately, most people have their heads down in their phones and aren’t paying attention to their surroundings, so they become victims. You must always be prepared for the worst, and never let your guard down, otherwise you’ll just end up a victim!

For all those asking: As a postal worker, you must follow federal rules, and you receive federal benefits. However, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics doesn’t consider postal workers federal employees because the postal service is a quasi-federal agency.
This is why my doors are locked both day and night. My heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of the victims. Such a senseless tragedy. 😔🙏🏼💔

It wasn't a half hour to respond, it took time to locate the killer. He's young and healthy and on foot. Cops responded to locations as calls were made, but of course the killer had already moved on.

If the guy calling 911 had been in possession of a legal firearm, he could have stopped this lunatic before he went on to kill and injure others. At what point do we start to change the narrative into something that makes sense? Such as, if I had a firearm I could have saved lives. This was a knife, a knife for gosh sakes! I live in a pretty safe area but on the few times we have had to call police, they have always advised us as neighbors to ‘look out for one another’. And we do ….. we are armed.
