BREAKING NEWS! In regards to yesterday’s vlog. I FaceTimed my parents today and asked if Grandma meant "FOLD IN BY HAND" literally or if she used a spatula. Turns out my Grandma literally folded her ingredients in by hand! My Grandma would be proud 🤗 I also looked up "Folding in by hand" videos and turns out lots of bakers literally use their hands. Sometimes I understand it doesn't mean literally use your hands but a spatula but in this case Grandma has spoken and she meant literally fold in by hand. Yup your right mindy. My nana used to fold by hand. Don’t listen to “the perfect people of the internet who can do no wrong” LOL they just love to pick people apart. Sad but true... just keep doing what your doing on your terms. We love you.
That’s how I do it fold by hand is the way to go!!
In culinary school one would not use their hands to fold in ingredients , however, at home hand folding in gets the job done just as well as a spoon or spatula :-) I use both methods, if I am making a souffle I will use a spoon to fold in, cookie batter or certain cakes I will use my hands. You want to trap in air bubbles, which is why you fold as oppose to mix.
My grandma also taught me to fold in by hand and to need with your hands as well. Like with your actual hands. Of course was your hands first .. but .. I knew you were doing it right , and it didn't seem correct how other were saying it but im sure other people do it differently.
Dad needs his own channel. He's hilarious!! Always has me cracking up.

I lost my dad 7 years ago and somehow watching you with yours warms my heart every time, not to mention how awesome your dad is! The way you embrace all those moments with your family is amazing 💜

I lost my dad 1 year and 11 months ago and I lost my mom 6 months ago. Their loss was sudden and unexpected. It was our tradition every year that me, my kids and my nephews would go to my parents house to help them decorate for Christmas. My mom (MeMaw) made Christmas cookies with the grandkids. I also videoed it and I am so glad I did because when I am missing my mom at Christmastime, I watch it. I miss moments like this so so much. The first holidays without them are really hard. I love how Mindy's family interacts with each other. That is what the holidays are all about, enjoying the little moments with the ones you love.
I am still continuing my little fun traditions with my own kids, nephews and niece (in law). I may do a day of making gingerbread houses with them. It is about making wonderful memories and enjoying the moments.
I am so sorry you lost your dad.

the presence of God and know that He is always with you. I feel that continuing traditions will keep their memory alive and carry on to the next generation. The stories that come with those traditions are to be cherished. And I think you are doing that.
I lost my dad 8 years ago. A year almost to the day before my son was born. He never met both his grandpas. We tell him he has two wonderful guardian angels watching over him.
l also dreamed of my dad twice and that helped me because I saw him just the way he used to be, laughing and joking among friends and family (the last year he was alive he was unable to speak) Lost his battle with cancer.
I am sorry you have been going through great pain, especially around this time of year, but There is hope that we will reunite with our loved ones once again.
@@roxanaconception thank you for such kind and sweet words of encouragement. I have had a very difficult time. I am also truly sorry about your dad and I am sorry your son did not get to meet them! It is so hard when you watch them suffer. Thank you for your prayers! My dad went into surgery and he died 5 days later. When he was about to take his final breath, my mom told him she would see him in Glory. It was so moving when she told him that. Little did we know she would go see him again so soon after he left. They were married for 54 years and were truly in love. I was blessed because my kids got to know my parents before they passed away. We lived next door to them so they had a path going to their house and they loved to visit with MeMaw and Papa.
@@beverlyhostetler3951 I am so sorry for both your losses. Beverly I think it's wonderful you are keeping the tradition alive. Hold on to the memories and keep them close to your heart. The pain is real the first year and while it remains, it does soften with time. A wise person told me that after my dad passed and I had a hard time believing her. After a year though I started hearing my dad's laugh again in my head and the hospital images started to fade. Now I remember him healthy, strong and I still talk to him all the time, it helps 🙂 Wishing you peaceful and comforting Holidays.

I totally understand Jimmy's position lol...trying to duck out early...he's trying to find the balance of family time and enjoying his adulthood as well... working hard and playing hard! And it is a blessing that he has that dilemma....not everyone has a fam that bakes cookies together! It is important that we honor our own spirits as well...so that we can continue to be a healthy member of our families. 👨👩👧👧 Sneaking out early is OK.... what is more important is that you show up!

So well said! I love that he pops in and at least makes an appearance. I have lots of friends who don’t think it’s worth a trip to see their parents if they are only going to stay like an hour and then have to leave. But I feel like it really does make a difference!

Yay, You got real vanilla! What a great family time video creating cooking of childhood memories. That is special! Back in the beginning "fold in by hand" meant to use a spatula or spoon, just not a machine. However, now days we aren't afraid to get our hands in the food we eat so we do. Another thing is cookie dough is sometimes so dense you can mix it well with a spatula or a spoon and that's why we use our hands. Here's another idea for you to think about. In recipes saying fold in beated egg whites in a mixture, would mean to use a spatula because it would difficult to combine 2 liquids masses together. So "fold in by hand" has a double meaning and it would depend on the recipe as to how to interpret it.

Do your chocolate chip cookies take 2 sticks of butter? You could try 1 stick butter, 1 stick margarine (that first stuff you bought that you thought was butter lol). That might make them fluffier. You could also add a little extra flour or a small box of instant vanilla pudding. Thank you so much for the work and time you put into Vlogmas. I've been enjoying it very much! Love seeing Grandpa and Lexi and how he described her as a good cat, soft and calm lol. I love seeing the family time, I pray that I will have a family like this with fun traditions one day!

I love family vlog days. My weekend was fun. We celebrated my mom finishing her Associates Degree. We had a NACHO Average Graduate dinner (nacho bar with all the fixins), and then surprised her with a zoom commencement ceremony with her classmates, family and friends. I made her a diploma, made her wear a graduation cap, and made her a Con-GRAD-ulations book with notes from all her friends. She was so surprised! She is one of the first people in her entire extended family to finish any sort of college degree (and she got a 3.97 GPA!) so I wanted to make it extra special for her. She is getting ready to start her Bachelors Degree so you know I am going to do a party when she finishes that!

Try this to see if it helps with the cookies flattening: 1) use cold butter 2) make your dough and shape the balls then freeze them overnight; bake them from frozen 3) preheat your pan for 5 minutes before you put your cookies down to bake. Love your dads vlogging!

Loved how dad was getting those candid shots. Your dad is the best. I watched this vlog 2x, it was so fun. Grandpa and Lexi was so adorable. Oh and the flat cookies, is a result of not enough flour and butter is over melted, so refrigerate before baking, try a batch and adjust accordingly.

Mindy there is no wrong or right way for the most part when it comes to using your hands or not as long as it tastes good that's what matters. I use my hands as well spatula are for those who are to afraid to get there hands dirty in the kitchen, so your grandma explained it right in the end you do it your way. Btw your dad did good with the camera he's ready for his own cooking channel lol, and one more thing I believe in my opinion that shooting star you saw was your grandma letting you know she was with ya baking cookies and was happy to be there with her family god bless you and your family.💞🤶🎅
I loved seeing your dad being your camera man and Larry helping with decorating. Mindy so I also baked cookies that turned out flat and I rebaked them and they were fine. I did soften the butter to a melted form and my mom says thats probably why so I didnt do that the second time and they were fine. So maybe do more choc. Chip and try that if u also did that. Btw I talk about u to my coworkers like we are legit friends. I told my coworker oh she tried this and didnt like it lol
