Suggestion: After fitting the pieces together of the desired shape you want, and outlining the pattern of the shape onto the support wood base, take painters tape and loop around the sides circumference taping to hold the pieces in place, then gently slide the pieces off of the wood base. When you're ready to place the pieces back onto the base support, just slide the base support back under the taped pieces of wood, matching the outline you drew of the pieces of wood upon the base support. You'll save a lot of time than having to put the pieces back together onto the base support like a jigsaw puzzle. Great artwork though. Aloha from Hawaii.
AMazed!!! Have not yet ventured into wood art but definitely collect more than enough to have fun with. Someday. With more videos like this. thank you.
Hi 👋, I am not new to your work shop, o yes you are, 😂, great looking 👀 Artwork, , and yes, I watch it until the end, I think it is what happens when people work by themselves, people ask you/me who do you work with, ME MY SELF AND I ,😂, I have peace’s in my garden, that I have found in the France Correze countryside, I have been thinking of making some wall art, I am English gentleman on you not Ha Ha , in my 70s living in France, I don’t have anyone to talk to, and need to do some thing to keep my mind off other things, and this interesting project, not sure if you will see this, as you posted this along time ago, Stay safe, keep up the great work of Art, PHIL FROM THE DARK SIDE OF THE MOULIN FRANCE.
Really nice piece of art man..i like collecting drift wood at the beach and turn it into something nice to look at, that’s way i watch videos of guys like you so i can learn and steal some new ideas.
This project turned out incredible, Scott! I really like what you did with what you had to work with. I fully suspect you would probably create a masterpiece if someone gave you a handful sawdust and half a dozen pieces of bark! You are the Guru of wood wall art. Thanks again!
Cool work Scott. I was playing some slide guitar to the groovin tunes while watching you put this together...good time. Good to have a team behind you. Btw, you could have sold the backer board with just the titebond on it for big bucks here in Santa Fe.
Wow, that certainly was a challenge, the biggest challenge yet. You treat the wood with so much respect. I was doubtful at first if it was at all possible to make something out of a pile of rotting stump, but you nailed it. You manipulated it into the perfect piece of wall art. Nice to see your cat, my cat was watching it with me. My friend has tidied up the pieces of wood I found with his power tools, now I can do something with it.
Yea, I didn't really know what would happen when I cut into the stump. I guess I was in the mood to challenge myself a little bit. Glad you noticed Wooley. He made very brief appearance but at least he got in the video. He comes and hangs out with me when I'm working sometimes but he mostly likes to hang around the house. Glad you got your wood tidied up, hope you can put it to good use.
Watching from Thailand as usual..i am rooting around where snakes abound ..looking for some bounty..will be in touch with some pics..you truly deserve a slap on the back, Tabla music is cool too. regards John.
When you started on this one. Well. ! I was betting against you making art from it. I mean I have some like that in an old wood pile on the property. But you did a fabulous job. In fact it is the best yet to me of all your work I have seen. I'm eating crow on this one. I am 72 years old and done wood working all my life. Now you have given me a renewed passion for the art of it. Thank you so much for sharing.
That's great to hear Robert! The main objective of my videos is to give inspiration to others. My other hope is that people will start to look at old wood in new ways. There's a lot of potential in an old stump, sometimes you just need to cut it into slices and put the pieces together to see it :)
I have to tell you I stumbled onto your channel and absolutly love your work. I subscribed immediately. Your work is so unique and beautiful and it's just amazing how it all comes together in the end. I also have a RUclips channel. I work primarily with resin and would love to find a slice of wood like yours to work on. Sadly I live in CT and I don't have any cool trees around. Anyways BRAVO!
Wow. Love this great idea..I live in the australian bush country, so I collect any stumps, unusual branches etc. Old dead wood. Love it. I also go to where there are regulators on our canals. I find amazing wood that has been in water and gone round and round beating of water probably for years eh. Gorgeous pieces.
Hello Scott. Yep the wood I find in the canals is so very unique and smooth. Beautiful. I will take some photos of a few piecesI found and put them on my Pinterest board ok. Cheers and thanks for all your helpful info too. Love your works.
Wow! It totally looks like a human heart, with the arteries and stuff coming out the top! Just found your channel and I love your work! So cool! and your humor lol
Wow. I love this!!! I've wanted to do something like this but couldn't quite "put my finger on it" but you have inspired me. Always loved gnarly wood but never thought of slicing it up. I'll give you another source. Shrub and sapling root balls are awesome also. Hope you don't mind me stealing some of your ideas. Gotta go watch your other vids.
More magic from Scott and the team! It has an oriental feel with shades of dragon. Thanks for sharing your genius with us. What is the chant background music please?
I'm not sure exactly which song you're talking about. I got he music from Audioblocks. - I typed Indian music into the search bar and downloaded the songs I liked from there.
Muito lindo e maravilhoso o seu trabalho, vc é um Artista Plástico muito talentoso, parabéns pelo lindo e maravilhoso vídeo, que Deus te abençoe e te proteja, muita saúde, paz e luz divina✌
This is a very primitive piece with a lot of outside bark and roots stems showing but very very intricate and sophisticated with the turns, curves and swirls.... over all it is just an "Great Big Rustic Romantic Valentine Heart"!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank You again Sir Scott!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Once the pieces are cut I brush on a lot of BioAdvanced carpenter ant and termite killer (sometimes two or three coats) to treat the wood before mounting it to the plywood backer board.
Most of the art I make is for indoors and I like flat polyurethane. As far as outdoor art goes, I would probably use a marine varnish, preferably flat - but that's just what I like - other people may prefer satin.
Hey Scott. Thanks for your discussion about inspiration. Was that 5 pond shellac? Nice color effect. Gonna inspect my spalting pile and pick out a play piece. Happy 4th of July!
Great job. Love what you do with old weathered wood. Could you tell me what song that is that you used in the beginning of the video while sawing the root in pieces. Dig the music. Thx and keep creating great stuff.
Once again you nailed it! Beautiful! I finished my first wood wall art thanks to you. I’d like to send you a picture of it. Could I possibly get an email?
Scott, thank you for taking the time to post content, including some of your artistic process. Your art is beautiful and very inspiring.

I Love this project. It may be one of my favorites!
This is one of my favourites so far John. Very oriental feel to it. My guess would be it was a cherry tree with some burls at the bottom of the stump

Good eye Stan! I can definitely see that :)
Love it
This is great....
Extremely beautiful! Would you please tell how you treat wood to prevent from rotten and pests? Thanks.
Once the pieces are cut I brush on a lot of BioAdvanced carpenter ant and termite killer (sometimes two or three coats) to treat the wood before mounting it to the plywood backer board.
Great job and terrific look! What kind of finish would you recommend for the exterior? I’d like to do something like that to put outside my garage!
Most of the art I make is for indoors and I like flat polyurethane. As far as outdoor art goes, I would probably use a marine varnish, preferably flat - but that's just what I like - other people may prefer satin.

And I always thought rotten work was a bad thing.
In house or boat construction I think it would be a bad thing. But with art construction, I've always felt like it was ok to break the rules a bit.
