    Dota's player count is decreasing in every region, except for CIS where the player count is actually increasing and the game trending. So the concurrent player count haven't changed, but where the players are from has changed

    To be fair, TI isn't as hype because valve doesn't care if it's hype. They have gotten rid of soooo many things to make it easier and cheaper, it's not a surprise it's not as high in viewership ranks.

    What people often forget is that TI was the first esports tournament EVER to have a huge prize pool. Back in the early 2010's the prize pool dwarfed absolutely everything else in terms of esports. Even mainstream media were writing about TIs prize pools.
    But nowadays? Who cares? Yes, Riyadh vs TI is a big deal in Dota circles, but as far as normies go, having a big prize pool for playing video games isn't big news anymore. Heck, even video game websites and YT channels barely reported on Riyadh's prize pool. It's just not something people are impressed by anymore, and I can definitely see why Valve decided to reduce the prize pool.

    • @maestromgx
      @maestromgx 7 дней назад +3

      The reduced prizepool definitely comes from Valve being sick of pro player being troublesome behind the scene, it is known that DOTA2 pros were amongst demanding luxury and VIP treatment but avoid doing sponsor / media obligation which is why your traditional esports team rarely fielding DOTA2 team, not to mention most DOTA2 team is owned by player. Valve reduced the prizepool to shows that people care more about hats and not the esports, now since the prizepool reduced, pro players is more active with their sponsor / media obligations, more willing to participate tournament and create more content and connect with fans.

    valve really want to resurrect that key chest thingy huh? looks like limited item battlepass isn't cutting it anymore, they want more buck from gambling chest than letting you buy from exact price. the battlepass limited item already bad enough because basically you paid 10x more for an arcana than if you buy from shop (older arcana). then instead of going to arcana in the shop direction, ofc they put it in ultra rare slot from a chest. inb4 someone said valve selling ugly hats isn't significant than steam income, as if valve would hate to get more easy money from people gambling.

    The legacy chest is a joke, it should be the chest and the key you get, but it's not, you just get the chest then have to pay cash for the key. Valve can bugger off with this bs. Their new approach to items seems to be the only way to get them is to pay cash.

    If youre not gonna ban main accounts for smurfing, why ban main accounts for boosting? Both are matchmaking abuse. If someone doesnt want to play ranked on their main for whatever reason, they can play unranked. Yea it doesn't solve the people who dont really have a main account and don't care if it gets banned, but it still solves some. You have to look at it from the perspective of people in lower brackets who get these chads coming in and stomping them. If instead of 1/10 games ruined by boosters/smurf, I get 1/12 or 1/15 because they dont do it anymore for fear of their main account being banned, then that would be amazing. Just play on your main account and choose your game mode ffs.
    I think not thinking smurfing is a big deal is a really privileged high mmr/pro player mindset. And I understand that pros would sometimes like to play a game thats not a trash unranked but also be anonymous or try new things and not hurt their rank, but they play enough games they can make up for it, and have enough other ways to accomplish that.

    The data you used in the top esports events section is kinda completely useless. It doesn't have any data from China, which is a massive part of the esports playerbase and it doesnt have any data from facebook streaming, which is quite popular in southeast asia, one of the other biggest esports playerbases. This data is basically then just a western-world popularity metric, so not very useful.

      TI goes back to 2011 for 1.6 mil prize pool (which was huge at the time) and has been organized by Valve historically. It kept climbing and peaked to 40 mil in 2021 using the battle pass. As of 2024, it has dropped to 2.7 mil after Valve scrapped the battle pass. Every pro team/org plays for money to keep themselves afloat, and when the prize pool drops too low idk how many shall care about "prestige".
