I attended high school with Megan, she was incredibly kind, a true empath. We had an art studio class together where I would paint her hand and our teacher asked we photograph it and turn it in as one of our projects (of which we found hilarious!) She was a creative soul and loved encouraging others, I just wanted to share a lovely story from a far away time ❤️ thank you for covering her story with such respect.

Living their pain is something different and I talk from experience: my 42 years old brother died 5 years ago and my Mom really went through it, she was a wreck. It took a village to help her overcome her grief. I don't think it ever goes away. She could have ended up doing what Megan's mother did. Some people respond to grief differently. People get angry when misogyny is mentioned, but things like sexism and misogyny ensures that things like SA won't be taken seriously enough. It's also why SA is severely underreported. Because if the men in charge don't care (and men ARE in charge), if they empathize with men who don't see women as equals or who hate/abuse them, then women aren't safe, and these predators will keep getting light sentences or let go completely to escalate/continue their evil work.

My advice, never ever go alone to a job interview, especially a private arrangement, always take someone else with you and if you feel uneasy or unsure about a situation then don't go, or leave immediately. You can always find another job, your life is irreplaceable. Not everyone is good or honest and it's not always obvious that someone's intentions are bad or selfish and evil.

Wow…. Throughout all of the interviews, from the day she called into the news station asking for the public’s help in finding her daughter’s killer, you can tell the mother was broken inside. I don’t believe it was the death of her daughter that ate at her, I believe it was knowing how she died, alone, humiliated, and fighting and/or pleading for her life. I’m a guy, but I assume the way she died is most women’s greatest fear, and to think her baby endured that, was too much for her to handle. I just hope her other 3 children don’t hold any resentment towards their mom because this was too much for her to handle. I can imagine they still need/want their mother around, this was too much for her heart to handle.

Of course it’s her daughter’s rape and murder that she couldn’t bare to live with. Regardless of how her daughter, or ANY human being, for that matter, suffered prior to being murdered. When a loved one is murdered, it doesn’t matter how the murder took place because murder is murder. It’s the loss of the loved one forever that causes the heartbreak. Rape or not, burnt or not, doesn’t change a anything.
At the end of the day, it’s about your loved one never coming back due to murder that eats at any human being. Murder is the most horrific, period, regardless of how a person is murdered.

He shouldn’t be given the option to plead guilty to avoid the death penalty. The DA should have rejected the plea deal and gone ahead to trial in order to obtain the death penalty. The placed looked abandoned. I took 5 steps and immediately ran back to my car. I believe this could have very well been my fate had I proceeded into the house. As I was driving away I saw a man standing on the side of the house. This is why I wholeheartedly believe and the 2nd amendment. Lesson learned, never again. My condolences 🙏🏾

The world needs to have a moral conversation on the death penalty for all proven sexual crimes, murders etc. It's incredible in how many cases, how much of it was preventable, especially by police. Can't express the amount of concern I have when you see people being arrested multiple times for similar violent crimes that eventually exculate to murder.

its not often that a case brings me to tears, but seeing her mother holding her photo in court was heartbreaking.
No one should ever have to be that strong

Such a heartbreaking case. She was working sooo soooo hard with her nursing school and multiple jobs to build a great life for herself and others. Such a bright and beautiful girl, and her mother lost. :(

Poor family ~~ Rest In Peace beautiful girl. Feel for her sister having been left to struggle through after mum took her own life. You can’t criticise anyone for what they do in a situation, until you too have walked in their shoes. Bless this family. xoxox 🇦🇺

"You can’t criticise anyone for what they do in a situation, until you too have walked in their shoes"
A comment meant to sound deep but is actually shallow and meaningless. Basic morality and common sense tells us that we certainly could and sometimes should judge people without any need of understanding their situation. One obvious example is that I don't need to walk in the shoes of a rapist to get their perspective. No matter what their situation is, the rape was still wrong. Likewise, alleviating your own pain by abandoning your living children is wrong and only stacks all of the pain onto them. Now they have their pain doubled by the person who should have been their comfort. The mom was selfish.

He ended up taking two lives. I hope his passing goes just as smooth as Megan's. If I am gonna be violated, and killed ~ I am putting my soul into fighting till the end, and 'They' will be caught.
RIP Megan, I hope you are with your Mom now. Thank you, Truly Criminal.
I find it amazing that you can tell such a story with a mono toned demeanour, whilst I am crying.
