Heya Helen! Don’t be hard on yourself for taking a little longer to read a historical work. I’m a French lit prof at a Canadian university and have a PhD in French Lit: you can trust this expert when I say that reading speed has nothing to do with intelligence. Also, historical literature has syntactical and vocab challenges for a modern reader: Frankenstein is an English novel, but it’s not “our” English as spoken and written in C21 Canada. So you should feel proud of yourself that you’ve picked up a classic and challenged yourself to some “heavier” reading. 🎉
Seriously. I took Brit Lit in high school and tried reading Jane Austin and only made it 50 pages in before I called it quits (and I read the hell out of Anne Rice for fun, so yeah).
Some works are just harder to read than others! I adored Oscar Wilde’s The Importance of Being Earnest when I studied it in school (it’s hilarious!) but it’s been >10 years and I still haven’t finished Dorian Grey 😂
Do you know what would be amazing?! If you created a washi tape that was the same size and color as the hobonichi grid, that could be used to cover and correct when plans change! I would use the heck out of that!
Every morning I make my pour over coffee and sit in my recliner for an hour or two enjoying it. I watch YT, hand sew whatever I’m working on, etc. Then I make a hot breakfast and clean up the kitchen. Once that’s done my day can start.
For me as an English literature BA student, reading Frankenstein was like: "here's the most imaginative story ever, written in the most pain-in-the-butt form possible" 😅 It's kind of written like a philosophical or historical essay rather than a narrative, in my opinion. So I empathise with you soo hard. I'm pretty used to reading classics, and like I can breeze through a Virginia Woolf, but Frankenstein was genuinely difficult to get through.
I love watching you write! Your videos are so relaxing to me b/c of the cadence of your voice and the whisper quality! I also appreciate your vulnerability when you are struggling. Authenticity 😊
"What happened here?!? [tries to fix] I've made it worse... well, there's that [moves on]" 😂 this resonates with everything I do in life so much right now
Have to agree on watching writing and I have to admit I find myself no longer watching those who are using all stickers in memory plans. It somehow seems wrong to have a paper planner (memory book) if the person keeping doesn’t actually write
"Body lotion issue" LOL 😄 I can totaly relate, I have chronic fatigue of unidentified origin and forcing myself to not skip on body lotion is definitely a struggle, just as much as doing anything that is not absolutely nesessary for my day to day function. But every time I win the battle and take proper care of myself, it feels sooo nice:) Wishing you more spa days in the future😁
Yesss Helen! So proud of you for incorporating more "me time" journaling! Constantly cheering for your happiness and wishing you the best! I hope you have a wonderful week!
Honestly watching the writing is my favorite part. I like just watching the ink show up on the page, it's so satisfying! I like writing and watching people write is almost as fun:)
I love that you took time for yourself and had a date with yourself because you deserve it ♥️ I feel like if we as humans did more of self care, we would all be happier together. Edit: As someone who has ADHD, I completely understand not being able to retain information while reading. For some reason my mind tends to go somewhere else and I have to re-read what I just read. It’s a whole thing and very frustrating but I keep trying so that says something haha
Your videos have become such a comfortable little corner of the internet. Where everyone else seems to be so loud and energetic, your soft voice is very soothing and I could listen to you talk and watch you write for hours.
Dead Wake is such a good book. Erik Larson is really great at making the dry details of historical stuff interesting. Another book by him you might be interested in is Devil in the White City. Its famous for being about H.H. Holmes, but that wasn't what I loved about it. It was such a great learning experience about the construction and experience of the Chicago World's Fair and the people surrounding that. It isn't just about the serial killer. Also, the murder bits aren't too graphic, he approaches it really well. I struggled with Frankenstien too. It's a great story, but the vernacular is very much a product of the time. Kudos to you for sticking with it. I ended up resorting to an audiobook version to get through it. A lot of classics are like that.
Okay, the body lotion struggle is so real. If it isn’t right there, I tend to neglect it too. I smiled in full support and understanding when you said, when you know you know. ❤
You asked about things we absolutely do in a day as per routine and for me lately that changes with the season of life and season of year (whereas before I was much more regular and structured). At certain times it might be to take a long walk the second I get up. In summer it’s to go water the gardens first thing, and in winter to fill up the bird feeders. I certainly like to have a pot of tea in the morning unless I’m going out, and do a quick vacuum of the upstairs, while the evening ideally includes reading and taking notes. Right now I’m also doing Pilates every day, and of course every Sunday includes watching your video as soon as it comes out. I used to have heavily-defined schedules, now I’ve swung in the opposite direction, and currently am trying to experiment and find a middle ground that will work. I take a lot of inspiration from you.
Hey Helen!! I have the same feeling when reading sometimes!! I find that watching videos about the book or the authour's life or historical context of the book is very helpful to understanding :) Love watching you write
Thank you for sharing what you do when things don’t go as planned 💛 I have literally quit multiple journals because they had too many cancelled/ rescheduled stickers or things crossed out/ they were too messy, and then I’ve migrated all the actual things into new planners 😅👀💸 not a great use of my time or money, so I appreciate what an easy fix yours is. I think I should invest in some very neutral post-it’s.
I'm currently reading "Pride and Prejudice" and I was having a hard time understanding the old english language. Reading slowly helped, but I started reading along with Audible, and it's really helping me understand it better.
I am totally the same with historiacal reading! Thank you for sharing that reading it can be challenging. I absolutely LOVE the way you do your videos - please do not change one thing! I could watch your videos 24/7 - you are so inspiring and creative. 🥰❤
I’m English and I find Frankenstein an intense read. For classics, I usually read them one chapter at a time per day so I can think about it for a bit before continuing on. I’m planning to reread Frankenstein later this year, but I want to read Romantic Outlaws first - it’s a nonfiction work about Mary Shelley and her mother - get lots of interesting tidbits about Mary’s life when she was writing Frankenstein. I died laughing when you spit on your calendar….I’m guilty of that. Body lotion is overrated and responsible for me smudging every damn page in my Hobonichi 😂
Heyy Helen! I am so obsessed with your videos and love them so much 😍 Hope you are taking care of yourself 😊 I admire how your are very consistent with your journal.... I tried it and its difficult to be consistent 😅
I really liked your talk-through of reading more challenging texts - you’re taking the right approach by stopping and starting again, making sure you’re starting a new book when you’re more focused, taking notes and reading with a pen in hand, and taking time to reflect. I applaud all these steps 1000%. (As an aside, you might like to know that the titles of ‘long’ texts or carry texts like novels get underlined while the titles of ‘short’ or supporting texts like poems, short stories, or articles that appear in carry texts get put into quotation marks.) I also love videos like this, listening to you talk and reflect your way through the days and the planning sessions, and hearing about your approach to work and life. This kind of practice encourages personal growth and development, so it’s great to see you doing it as a model to others. Keep up the amazing work, Helen. I hope you have a magical week. ❤🤗
I totally get the whole body lotion thing 🤣 I have to tell you that the new releases went so smoothly for me. I was able to get the new binder and sheets, but I was in such a hurry that I forgot to order the new sticker sheets 🤦🏼♀️ oh well, I’ll just get those on the next order. I loved the plan with me and I do enjoy listening to you talk and write. HUGE HUGS 🤗😘
I'm with you on the body lotion thing. I know I need to put in on because my skin is so dry but it's just a hassle for me LOL. I have trouble reading the classics so kudos to you for doing that.
I’m the same way when it comes to the classic books, I even do it sometimes with new books as well! Your most definitely not stupid, your extremely smart!! How many 15 year olds can start their own business & grow it into such an amazing shop as you have!! A lot of adults couldn’t do what you have done!! 💜 P.S I LOVE watching you write in your planner, please don’t fast forward through it!! 😊
I'm with you about reading classics. The writing style was so different. Once I decided to make more of an effort to read Dickens because I didn't like him in high school. I read three pages of The Pickwick Papers and gave up because the sentences ran into each other. I'm really interested in seeing your reading journal.
Loved following along with your week planning, thanks 😊. The body lotion Ohhhh yes, completely understand, my skin needs it so much but I just don’t get there and I feel so frustrated with myself.
Yes I understand not doing body lotion & in fact I’m pretty sure my skin is happier without daily lotion. Enjoyed video and was so excited to snag one of the binders in this sale
I’m definitely the same way with lotion. Lol! I was planning a “spa”evening tonight too. 😊 I love your videos Helen! Also I too do the same thing every morning.
I can completely relate to your “body lotion issue”. I’ve taught my teen girls to pamper themselves with that stuff but I’m like you too busy and tired 😅
omg TWICE in my school career i have had to read frankenstein for a class and i honestly STILL feel like i dont have a good grasp of it!!!!! you're not alone!!!!! 🤍
Could you do a video on how you decide to style your pages? You have great taste and style. I'd love to get an insight into how you think about how to lay out a page, art-wise. My bullet pages are so lame despite my best efforts 🤣
New sub, first comment: i love watching you write even if you dont speak. But i love listening to you too. This may be weird but i love listening to you while im at work. Like im working with a friend or bff. On my AirPods. I love your snacks too. Ok enough word vomiting for now 😅😅
I also enjoy watching you write while you talk, it’s very relaxing lol. I love your videos! You are truly an amazing person, idk how you are so disciplined. Question -When you have a smaller change of schedule in your planner (like an appt was canceled or work went longer by an hour etc) do you go back and edit it or do you leave it as be? Thanks!
I can completely understand about the body lotion 😂🙌 It's a lot of work on a daily basis so it's definitely a me time/self care thing here. Also, I enjoy watching you write. Idk why, but it's relaxing. 💞💞
I laughed when you were talking about lotion because SAME. I got in the shower (feels impossible most times) and NOW you want me to lotion?? 😅😅 Absolutely not.
Love your video as always!!! So I have a question. 😂 I have been trying to get my hands on a silver ruler and just can’t seem to find any. By chance do you think you will ever release them again?
You are definitely not stupid! Frankenstein is excellent but the writing is a bit stuffy. Once you get into the plot, it’ll be better. But there’s also no shame in not finishing a book you just don’t like. My undergrad was in literature and writing and it took me forever to realize that it a book is just not working for me, it’s fine to put it down. Also, I love watching you write. It’s soothing and I like your handwriting.
If you get too lazy or tired to do body lotion (I do too), Nivea (and I'm sure other brands) makes a lotion that you put on in the shower, it's water activated and you rinse it off so it's not sticky or anything. I found because you use it in the shower it can just become part of your shower routine and then it doesn't feel like an extra step. Also reading classics can be hard, the language is different and that can make it hard to comprehend. You're definitely not stupid!!!
Hello, I enjoy watching you write. 😊 Question: When you record your activities for a previous day, are you writing your activities in another planner then transfer to your Cousin?
Hey, Helen! A while back, I remember your reading Crime and Punishment. How did you like it? I've been meaning to read it for years. My first mentor, who has since passed away, gave me a copy and I feel bad I haven't read it yet. It's reading week for me at school right now, so it might be a good excuse to finally get it done! :) Also, how do you wake up so early after not sleeping until so late? I also often sleep late and I have a hard time getting up in the morning, even when I feel like I've had enough sleep. What's your secret?
Morning, another book by Erik Larson you might enjoy is “The Devil in the White City”. I enjoyed it because I’ve in the city it is set in. Chicago. I love your videos!
I fully admit to not being able to read some books. Sparknotes was my friend in high school because some of them were so dry and boring that I just couldn't. And I read things like WW2 history for fun.
I have never read Frankenstein (yet...) but I think you should just take a little longer to read it and take your time. Also I like seeing you write out your day, makes it real nice instead of speeding it up
Your planning is meticulous but do you allow for spontaneity? As for myself I don’t plan anything. I just let it happen. I do like writing with a fountain pen just for the pleasure of it and as an artistic exercise. No purpose intended
😂😂 at the body lotion issue. It’s hard to do anything even if you *know* you should when you’re struggling; I fully empathise. Weeeell, my bottles of skincare and eczema body butter empathise 🫠 we just gotta keep going, I guess!
Heya Helen! Don’t be hard on yourself for taking a little longer to read a historical work. I’m a French lit prof at a Canadian university and have a PhD in French Lit: you can trust this expert when I say that reading speed has nothing to do with intelligence. So you should feel proud of yourself that you’ve picked up a classic and challenged yourself to some “heavier” reading. 🎉
Thank you SO much for the reassurance!!! I was starting to get really frustrated but 5 chapters in, I'm enjoying the text!
I totally agree about putting body lotion. I always think about it at the most inopportune time.
Dobry den! 👋🏻
Hahaha I love the way you put it! Thank you for the reassurance Tereza!
I love watching you write! Your videos are so relaxing to me b/c of the cadence of your voice and the whisper quality!
I also appreciate your vulnerability when you are struggling. Authenticity 😊
Thank you so so much Rebecca! This means the world!
Same!! Love the quiet writing parts 😍
"What happened here?!? [tries to fix] I've made it worse... well, there's that [moves on]" 😂 this resonates with everything I do in life so much right now
Literally lol’d at that part! So relatable
❤ I love the real time plan with me’s! Also I personally don’t mind watching you write everything out instead of cutting off :)
Yay! Thank you!
Have to agree on watching writing and I have to admit I find myself no longer watching those who are using all stickers in memory plans. It somehow seems wrong to have a paper planner (memory book) if the person keeping doesn’t actually write
100% understand you about the lotion! 😅
I feel you on the lotion. I'm too lazy as well and I spend a lot of time at my computer, but I try to limit self care products at my desk.
Yesss Helen! So proud of you for incorporating more "me time" journaling! Constantly cheering for your happiness and wishing you the best! I hope you have a wonderful week!
Thank you bunches Tori!!!!! I hope you have a beautiful week as well!
I would love to see your reading journal, too.
I will be making a video about this in a few weeks! I want to ensure this system is working for me 100% before sharing hehe
Honestly watching the writing is my favorite part. I like just watching the ink show up on the page, it's so satisfying! I like writing and watching people write is almost as fun:)

Who else is here for the ASMR feeling? :D
Love your voice!
Your videos have become such a comfortable little corner of the internet. Where everyone else seems to be so loud and energetic, your soft voice is very soothing and I could listen to you talk and watch you write for hours.
I enjoy the writing portion of the emails. It's oddly motivational!
"I started the day off with some work." 😆 CLASSIC small business owner statement, love it! (I am one myslef, I can related)

I was lurking the playlist yesterday and it said “updated today” “private video” and I got so excited because I knew you had scheduled an upload 😊
Oooo I didn't know it shows up!
@@TheCoffeeMonsterzCo Not in any spoiler-ish way, and you have to be lurking a playlist to notice! 💕
I could watch you write all day! I love that nothing is sped up!
I like watching you write!
Thank you Zara!!!
Helen, I read each night, then say of prayer of thanks before I close my eyes! Same does not mean boring! 😉
That is so true! And I love that Cyndye
Okay, the body lotion struggle is so real. If it isn’t right there, I tend to neglect it too. I smiled in full support and understanding when you said, when you know you know. ❤
Helen your videos are almost like ASMR! 😀 I could relax and fall asleep.

Love the chatty vids! Such great hacks and tips. So excited about the anniversary sale in a couple days!!!
Amazing video thank you!
1. Love watching you write - no need to speed up 🤍
2. Same with the classics - it takes me so long
Thank you for the video!
We love watching you write!
Hey Helen!! I have the same feeling when reading sometimes!! I find that watching videos about the book or the authour's life or historical context of the book is very helpful to understanding :)
Love watching you write
Ooo these are great tips! Thank you Manuela!

Same on the body lotion front 😂 the struggle is real!!!
You explained that reduced comprehension really well, when reading some classics; I'm the same when I read Dickens.
I totally understand planning body lotion time! I am the same way.
I'm currently reading "Pride and Prejudice" and I was having a hard time understanding the old english language. Reading slowly helped, but I started reading along with Audible, and it's really helping me understand it better.
i dont mind watching you write :) your handwriting is so lovely ❤️

I love and am obsessed with your handwriting style. I’m practicing and hope to get it to look close to yours.😀
Midnight is not sleeping early!! 💞💞💞
I love watching you write!
Happy Sunday Helen ❤❤❤❤
Heyy Helen! I am so obsessed with your videos and love them so much 😍
Hope you are taking care of yourself 😊
I admire how your are very consistent with your journal.... I tried it and its difficult to be consistent 😅
Aww thank you so much~!!! I hope you find your planning groove!
I just got your stickers ❤them!! Thanks for sharing!!
I really liked your talk-through of reading more challenging texts - you’re taking the right approach by stopping and starting again, making sure you’re starting a new book when you’re more focused, taking notes and reading with a pen in hand, and taking time to reflect. I applaud all these steps 1000%. (As an aside, you might like to know that the titles of ‘long’ texts or carry texts like novels get underlined while the titles of ‘short’ or supporting texts like poems, short stories, or articles that appear in carry texts get put into quotation marks.)
I also love videos like this, listening to you talk and reflect your way through the days and the planning sessions, and hearing about your approach to work and life. HUGE HUGS 🤗😘
i love the valentines decoration
I'm with you on the body lotion thing. I know I need to put in on because my skin is so dry but it's just a hassle for me LOL. I have trouble reading the classics so kudos to you for doing that.
Loved how you cover it with stickers. Very neutral and yet beautiful spread
I’m the same way when it comes to the classic books, I even do it sometimes with new books as well! Your most definitely not stupid, your extremely smart!! How many 15 year olds can start their own business & grow it into such an amazing shop as you have!! A lot of adults couldn’t do what you have done!! 💜
P.S I LOVE watching you write in your planner, please don’t fast forward through it!! 😊

I enjoy your videos. ❤
Glad you like them! Thank you Kara!
Yes I understand not doing body lotion & in fact I’m pretty sure my skin is happier without daily lotion. Enjoyed video and was so excited to snag one of the binders in this sale
❤️ I’m the opposite, I have the Sarasa Dry in the Clena body. ☺️
Love this channel ❤
I’m definitely the same way with lotion. Lol!
I was planning a “spa”evening tonight too. 😊
I love your videos Helen! Also I too do the same thing every morning.
I do like when you keep the writing part 🫶
I can completely relate to your “body lotion issue”. I’ve taught my teen girls to pamper themselves with that stuff but I’m like you too busy and tired 😅
omg TWICE in my school career i have had to read frankenstein for a class and i honestly STILL feel like i dont have a good grasp of it!!!!! you're not alone!!!!! 🤍
LOL It seems like a lot of people struggle with this text! 6 chapters in, I'm finally enjoying it!
I’m thinking I need a Hobonichi cousin! I have the A6 currently but I love to dress up my planner/Journal and find I fill the A6 up to fast!
Super cute 😍 💕
I laughed when you were talking about lotion because SAME. I got in the shower (feels impossible most times) and NOW you want me to lotion?? 😅😅 Absolutely not.
yes, girl! lotion is the worst. so much work.
Writing is enjoyable.
Ooo 😍 that work from bed emoti is not released yet, right?
I need that 😆
Love your video as always!!!
Also, how do you wake up so early after not sleeping until so late? I also often sleep late and I have a hard time getting up in the morning, even when I feel like I've had enough sleep. What's your secret?
Yep I also wanna know the secret 😀
Since you have your own sticker shop, what makes you decide to purchase from other shops?
I love other artists' styles too!!! I especially like supporting artists who design unique stickers that I would never think of myself ^_^
Morning, another book by Erik Larson you might enjoy is “The Devil in the White City”. I enjoyed it because I’ve in the city it is set in. Chicago. I love your videos!
Thank you so much for the recommendation Cheryl!!! Will check this out next!
Any chance you can make shitajiki A5 slims? I would love some for my Jibuns.
I fully admit to not being able to read some books. Sparknotes was my friend in high school because some of them were so dry and boring that I just couldn't. And I read things like WW2 history for fun.
I have never read Frankenstein (yet...) but I think you should just take a little longer to read it and take your time. Also I like seeing you write out your day, makes it real nice instead of speeding it up
Thank you Brittany! I'm happy to report that since this video, I have caught on! It's a wonderful story
I loved Frankenstein so much I have a quote from it as a tattoo :D
How long does it take to get products?
Hello, i don't put body lotion too😂😂😂
How was your upper body workout on Tuesday?
It was great!
No I love your handwriting don't speed it up 😁😁😁💜💜💜
Frankenstein gets easier. I have that issue with Russian classics - patronymics kill me.
Love your drawing ! I wish I could draw better , that’s why I use sticker 😅❤
I like watching you right even if you don’t say anything you’re writing is magnificent and it puts mine to absolute shame
You are so kind, thank you! Although don't put your writing down!!!
Lovely video as always ❤❤❤ Question… will you ever release washi tape again? 😊
Your planning is meticulous but do you allow for spontaneity? As for myself I don’t plan anything. I just let it happen. I do like writing with a fountain pen just for the pleasure of it and as an artistic exercise. No purpose intended

Nonsense.
😂😂 at the body lotion issue. It’s hard to do anything even if you *know* you should when you’re struggling; I fully empathise. Weeeell, my bottles of skincare and eczema body butter empathise 🫠 we just gotta keep going, I guess!
