- Many of us are unaware that many things we do are actually sins (acts of disobedience to Allah ﷻ). Even when we are aware of that, we don't think that our sins can have consequences for us, our relationship with Allah ﷻ, other people, and even the world.
Join us in a new Tuesday Night Program Series ""Sins: The Poison That Kills the Heart"" with Dr. Sh. Haifaa Younis, starting on October 4th at 7 pm PST, as we dive deeper into understanding the nature of sins, and their impacts and effects on our daily lives.

Sins: Poison of the heart 1
Poem of Abdullah ibn Malik
I came to know that sins kill the heart
Once you get addicted to sins,
They lead to humiliation
When you stay away from sins,
Your heart is alive
The best thing for you will be,
Is to go against yourself (nafs)
What is sin?
Anything that is immoral. Crime. Disobedience of Allah swt (either major or minor)
*If interested in reading Book of imam aldhahabi Al Kabair.*
Sins are against Allah and humans.
Major sins:
1. Any action that is forbidden in the Quran by Allah and Rasool Allah in the sunnah is a major sin.
2. If there is a severe punishment for a sin it is a major sin.
3. Spreading mischief in earth (destroying the earth).
4. Those who do that there's a severe punishment for them and curse of Allah.(mentioned in the Quran)
What is curse of Allah?
No rahma of Allah.
Rasool Allah said,"Stay away from the Seven that will destroy you
1. Shirk
2. Magic
3. Killing the soul (without the right.)
4. Interest (Riba)
5. Using the wealth of Orphans
6. The people who run away from the battle
7. When you accuse women in their honour
(Al Bukhari)
Sayyidna Abdullah ibn masood said," A man came to rasool Allah and asked what is the biggest sin?He (saw) answered," 1.When you make something equal to Allah and he created you. 2
You kill your son because you're worried you have to feed him. 3. When you have a relationship with the wife of your best friend.
A man came to Abdullah ibn Umar and he said," I did major ones(sins), i went in to another city and i did major ones and there's no way out for me and he told Abdullah ibn Umar and he said ," These are not major sins. Come let me teach you the major sins. They are nine
1. Shirk
2. Killing of human
3. Run away from the battlefield
4. Accuse the chaste woman
5. Riba
6. Use the wealth of orphan
7. You enter a masjid and you don't believe in allah, you don't worship him
8. The person who makes fun of others
9. When your mother or father cry because of your behaviour
Are your parents still alive?
Only my mother.
He said, By Allah if you only talk to her nicely, softly and gently and serve her food. You will enter jannah(as long as you stay away from the major ones)
Major sin
1. Not praying
2. Not paying Zakah
3. Not performing hajj when you're able to
4. Disrespect to parents (uff)
5. Adultery
6. Homosexuality
7. Interest(riba)
8. Lieing
9. Drinking Alcohol
10. Gambling
11. Stealing
12. Suicide
13. Bribes
14. Showing off
15. Learning knowledge of religion for the sake of being recognized
16. Fortune telling
17. Betrayal of trust
18. Treating others unjustly
19. Woman dressed like a man and a man dressed like a woman

*SUMMARY OF THE LECTURE*
Always stay away from sin. To do so, go against your nafs. If you stay near sin thinking that you'll be able to control yourself in not committing it, then you're wrong. Sooner or later you WILL indulge yourself in it. There are both minor and major sins. A major sin is forbidden by Allah (SWT) and Muhammad (Sm) in the Qur'an and sunnah. Any deed that has a severe punishment related to it, is a major sin. Even when someone doesn't keep a promise of Allah, it's a major sin. It is both against Allah and against humanity. Spreading mischief (fasad), destroying the earth with wastage (food, resource, money, plastic) is also a type of major sin. Zina which is adultery is one of the major sins. We can commit zina with our eyes, tongue, ears, and other limbs too.
Abu Huraira reported Allah's Apostle as saying: “Allah has decreed for every son of Adam his share of zina, which he will inevitably commit. The zina of the eyes is looking, the zina of the tongue is speaking, one may wish and desire, and the private parts confirm that or deny it.”
Prophet Muhammad (SM) said there are seven major sins and he advised us to stay away from it.
1. Shirk,
2. Magic,
3. Killing,
4. Riba (interest),
5. Using wealth of orphans,
6. Who run away from jihad, and
7. When you accuse women regarding her honor (chastity).
Backbiting is also a kind of major sin. We should avoid meetings/places where we might end up being a part of the backbiters. Making something equal to Allah is also a major sin. When we prefer work over salah, beauty over Allah's command we are someway making these equal to Him (Astagfirullah). Major sins include killing children (abortion) because you can't afford their rizq. Remember Allah give rizq. Bullying or making fun of others is a form of major sin.
When you make your parents cry by treating them unjustly, it is also a major sin. We should be patient with our old sick parents. We shouldn't shout or give looks to our parents. We should speak softly, nicely and gently. Respond in nicer way even when they say something bad/wrong. We should serve them in their needs. Allah SWT has told in the Qur'an,
"Whether one or both of them reach old age [while] with you, say not to them [so much as], "uff," and do not repel them but speak to them a noble word." [17:23]
Some of the major sins are:
1. Shirk
2. Killing
3. Magic
4. Not praying salah (laziness or don't think it's an obligation)
5. Not paying zakah
6. Not performing hajj
7. Disrespectful to parents. Saying uff (mentioned in Qur'an)
8. Adultery
9. Homosexuality
10. Riba
11. Orphan
12. Lying
13. Drinking alcohol
14. Gambling
15. Stealing
16. Oppression zulm
17. Committing suicide
18. Bribe
19. Showing off
20. Learning knowledge of religion for the sake of being recognised
21. Believing in fortune teller
22. Betrayal of trust
23. Treating unjustly
24. Women/men Dressing like men/women
25. Spying (looking into other's phone)
Abu Talib Al-Makki in his book 'The Role of the Heart' mentioned 4 major sins in heart
1. Riba
2. Shirk
3. Insisting on disobeying Allah
4. Don't make people despair from the mercy of Allah. Don't say to anyone that they won't enter jannah.

and wat about his r.a. sister Fatima? She was bron many many years befor islam came.. why is she not killed by her father? Pre-islamic practices were really present then..

And, whoever recites surah Nur a lot, no one in his/her family will commit fornication and after his/her death,
SEVENTY ANGELS will ESCORT him to his/her grave and will pray and ask forgiveness for him/her.
Qur'an Surah An-Nur (1-15)

(24-1): ˹This is˺ a sûrah which We have revealed and made ˹its rulings˺ obligatory, and revealed in it clear
commandments so that you may be mindful.
(24-2): As for female and male fornicators, give each of them one hundred lashes, and do not let pity
for them make you lenient in ˹enforcing˺ the law of Allah, if you ˹truly˺ believe in Allah and the Last Day.
And let a number of believers witness their punishment.
(24-3): A male fornicator would only marry a female fornicator or idolatress. And a female fornicator would
only be married to a fornicator or idolater. This is ˹all˺ forbidden to the believers.
(24-4): Those who accuse chaste women ˹of adultery˺ and fail to produce four witnesses, give them eighty lashes ˹each˺.
And do not ever accept any testimony from them-for they are indeed the rebellious-
(24-5): except those who repent afterwards and mend their ways, then surely Allah is All-Forgiving, Most Merciful.

(24-6): And those who accuse their wives ˹of adultery˺ but have no witness except themselves, the accuser must testify,
swearing four times by Allah that he is telling the truth,

(24-9): and a fifth oath that Allah may be displeased with her if he is telling the truth.

(24-11): Indeed, those who came up with that ˹outrageous˺ slander are a group of you. Do not think this is bad for you.

(24-12): If only the believing men and women had thought well of one another, when you heard this ˹rumour˺, and said,
“This is clearly ˹an outrageous˺ slander!”
(24-13): Why did they not produce four witnesses? Now, since they have failed to produce witnesses, they are ˹truly˺
liars in the sight of Allah.
(24-14): Had it not been for Allah’s grace and mercy upon you in this world and the Hereafter, you would have certainly
been touched with a tremendous punishment for what you plunged into-
(24-15): when you passed it from one tongue to the other, and said with your mouths what you had no knowledge of,
taking it lightly while it is ˹extremely˺ serious in the sight of Allah.
