1. Layer your lighting.. Canned lighting, pendant lights... Different types of lighting 2. Paint your walls a lighter shade/get lighter curtains 3. Use light colored rugs 4. Use mirrors 5. Use lighter colored accessories... Light throws/pillows.. Lighter colored lamps and woods 6. Decorate with plants...Don't kill them
Remove the claustrophobia to expand space. Focal points on the far wall, not up in your face. Go monochrome so the eye is not jarred to a halt every two inches by a riot of color. The eye is drawn to light, bright, motion, and detail. Use that and provide an illusion of unseen horizon. Put away the clutter and the ornate.
Hi. I just saw your video because im refreshing my living room and instead of buying another living room set which i have literally tossed back n forth about...i needed ideas to make my townhome living room feel brighter and bigger. You really helped me!! Thanks! I took your advice and due to my navy blue and beige victorian scroll arm chairs i ordered a beautiful pure snow white rug, added more lighting, and took down the wood accents and added mirrors and shades of gold. Plants accent my fireplace and i added pure white accent pillows to brighten up the look. I also trashed the dark wood coffee table in exchange for a glass table i adore. I also painted and DIY'd my ginger jars ftom dark colors to pure white with gold trimming!! I was scared but your ideas did the trick because my room has no windows but now it feels cozy and bright and bigger. I feel more confident to fall in love with it. Thank u
BlueLizzyLove you should definitely do it! We love the outcome of ours. My most recent video shows a before and after of ours but I’ll be posting how we did it in a few weeks if you’re interested. My biggest tips are to use a shade of white that matches the color palette of your room, not just pure white. And also water down the paint more than you think at first. You can always go over it again but once it’s painted there’s no going back.
I purposely decorated my bedroom all neutral colors, including my bedding I absolutely love it. It helps to maintain my peace and restful sanctuary. Oh hiiii Mommie to be Sharrah!
Thank you! I love the Scandinavian aesthetic, so even though I have big windows, I just want MORE AND MORE LIGHT! I need to figure out where I could hang a mirror that wouldn't look awkward, but the light accessories would be easy. I'll just go through what I have and remove the dark ones. 😊 Throw pillows and blankets will have to wait until my toddler is a little older, though!! 🙃
I hear that mirrored walls are outbut I really do think if they're opposite from where the window is it will lighten up your. Plus I found some mirrored room dividers and put them in the corners and that really helped.
First let me say how much joy I felt seeing your baby bump! You look so cute! That shampoo is intriguing love the colors might have to give it a try! Love the idea of the plug in pendants that way you don't have to add expensive electric and you can move it around when you want to change up the space.
Are black curtain rods always the best choice? Can you go with a white to match the white curtains? What if you have a low ceiling? A curtain rod video would be much appreciated!
Yay! I can happily say that I've incorporated a nice amount of these tips into my living spaces. They really make all the difference. Thank you Sharrah!
I love watching your videos. You and your mom give me so much inspiration to make my home beautiful on a budget like I have always wanted. Thank You so much for all that you do on RUclips.
If the right lighting is used a Charcoal Gray/Soft Black could be used on the walls, White atrium and Mimimilize the Stuff, Less I'd way better. Matchstick blinds and a splash of color in a nice Painting, pillow, lamp, a 1 good decor piece.
I found this video most enjoyable and informative. You covered some things I had not thought of for dark rooms. I have two bathrooms that do not have any natural light so I had never thought about bringing plants into those spaces. Now that is exactly what I am going to do! Some low light plants that I can rotate around my home should bring life into those rooms and if they get rotated in and out of the spaces quite regularly I think they will be happy as well! Thank you so much for the tips!
As a landlord I would say DONT PAINT with out permission! It’s not so much the colour/fact the walls are painted but the mess that most amateurs make while painting. It ends up being damaged carpet and a major hassle with poor edges, paint on glass/hardware etc. I would definitely approve a tenant getting a pro in though!
I'm a renter and my husband is a professional painter. It's been SUPER frustrating renting from people that let tenants paint. As it looks so bad, and makes a pro job painting look bad- because you can't cover up other people's messes! Also, we run into landlords, taking advantage of us. Like they say, they will cover cost of something and never do. So be careful of that.
The light colored rug looks great but If you have children, pets, or a spouse that has a dirty job or.... in front of a fireplace whereas sometimes wood "spits" little ashes .... Reality? Can brighten a room with a bright patterned rug. It doesn't show dirt from sources above. Feasible.
Intro, slight baby brain moment...which is perfectly acceptable and natural. Love watching you on your journey. You have the full support of this beautiful community your Mum, you and Tyler continue to build.
I have just gotten a place with amazing 60s knotty pine walls and cabinets, it would be just tragic to paint them or bleach them, what color can I do countertop wise, wall wise, and backsplash wise to brighten up the room? I was thinking a reclaimed glass countertop, but I have read that would make it too busy. Help please!
I loved the trick that you did in the makeover with the illusion of a second window by framing the mirror with the curtains. I have a DIY channel as well, in this moment I am dealing with DIYing my entire wedding, even the dress, if this is your cup of tea, come over, anyone is welcome
Love all of them. Thank you so much as this is what i keep wondering all the time but thanks to you that its simply a click away. Stay safe and take care❤🙇♂️
It would've been nice to let everyone know when the video for what we wanted to see began. I found it frustrating to wait, although I'm sure some found the commercial beneficial.
Thank you for the tips and always showing examples of what should be done. I never but much thought to layering the lighting, so this was great information.
In Germany you usually don‘t ask your landlord if you want to paint, you just do it. When you move out, you just paint everything white and that‘s it ☺️
Thank you so much for this video. So many great tips!❤ What kind of light bulbs do you use for the canned lighting and the lamps? I find 2700K bulbs a bit too yellow for the canned lights. Do you use 3000K for the canned and 2700K for the lamps? Thanks in advance!
I needed this my husband and I were given an old trailer home and we gutted and redid everything but my biggest regret was picking dark flooring cause at the time (3yrs ago) I knew nothing about home decor. Plus we have our sofas are dark brown (old given from my parents)so yeah super dark but now hopefully I can really make a difference
Love your home and your videos. I think you said you used Crisp Linen paint throughout your home. Would you please tell me which paint company makes that?
For the natural rugs, in my experience they make an absolute mess and no one talks about it any tips on how to stop them from pulling apart by just sitting there?
Why do I HATE canned lighting in the ceiling? I find it very glaring.....I know i am wreiid but I much prefer a table lamp....WHERE did you find that wooden planter for the large lamo on the left hand side of the room?
Advising a renter to paint without permission is horrible advice - if the landlord finds out, they could break the lease! Just ask ahead of time if it would be allowed, and if not, find another place.
My bedroom has a window that covers most of my room but still it feels dark and kind of haunting. I really liked the ideas and tips you gave today. Now I can finally brighten my room. Thanks Sharrah. ps.happy pregnancy 😋😋😁
Speaking from experience, when we moved to our new house i wanted to have a grey tone decor, but it went overboard because it made many rooms dark. Ive ditched the grey and went more white especially with window coverings. White sheer curtains drastically changes the whole mood of a room.
I have a dark family room on the second floor with small windows how do I decorate/lighten the room with walls that slant inwards. I can’t hang things on them pls help!
I am in the process of redoing my bedroom ...I painted the wall behind my bed a gold accent color ...and hate it especially since it’s the basement and the natural light isn’t great
What do you suggest for a part of a room being dark. Like I want to keep my desk in a corner but there's no enough lighting even with a desk lamp. And I kept the desk near a window but the desk is a bit bigger so it looks ahkward. No space for a big lamp
spruha sanghavi maybe hang a pendant light that plugs into the wall and use a screw hook to help hang so you don’t have to worry about wiring in the ceiling. Maybe this other video of hers can help ruclips.net/video/CfiB3LosmjY/видео.html

I believe using metallics or crystal elements sparsely also adds a reflective and light quality to a room
@@okonamaroko9419 that's cool! Thanks!
Thank you for posting this comment, I was hoping to scroll down and find this haha

Love these tips! My family room gets NO light so I actually just whitewashed my fireplace to brighten it up! Thanks for the ideas girl! 🧡
I have the exact same problem and have been considering white washing my fireplace as well! Any tips? Are you happy with the outcome? :)

Paint dark wood furniture a lighter color. I did this through out & it's such a great way to brighten a space.
I love that wallpaper print so simple but adds so much
Hahaha my fav part was the dog getting excited and loving the newly rolled out rug 😍😍😍
Are black curtain rods always the best choice? Can you go with a white to match the white curtains? What if you have a low ceiling? A curtain rod video would be much appreciated!
Also, use 'open' shelving rather than full wood bookcases, so that wall color shows through and light permeates more.
Yay! I can happily say that I've incorporated a nice amount of these tips into my living spaces. They really make all the difference. Thank you Sharrah!
Great tips! I had to do most of this hacks when I was in college with my small apartment!!
@@MHStrayCat23 absolutely.
What a startling voice!
Thank you! My new apartment has very few windows and is super dark. This tips will help so much!
Did it work out? I would love to see a video!
Omg! Baby bump! Love it!
So much light for sure! You did a beautiful job on y'alls home!
So good. I see I am on the right path.
I love watching your videos. You and your mom give me so much inspiration to make my home beautiful on a budget like I have always wanted. Thank You so much for all that you do on RUclips.
Is there a white paint color you can recommend for a dark room? Should the white lean more gray or yellow?
Would love to see a video on how to choose rugs for different rooms (bedroom, dining room, etc). Thanks
I love sharrah’s messy hair look 😍😍😍

I love your dog! Super cute!
Thanks -- this was helpful and budget friendly.
Congratulations!!! You look amazing.
Greetings from Nigeria.
Wow! First time viewers. Thank you! You got talent!! 😃💖

Would the landlord pay for a pro?? Just asking..thank you..
I agree... Definitely don't do it without permission.. could result in not getting your deposit back

Didn't come for hair care commercial
seen that 2-minute hair product commercial on other channels….this is how they get ya!

What would be a good paint color if your home is very dark? Every room has one side more lit then the other in my home and 1 window
I'm new to your channel, and I think you are really REALLY good. Hope to see more of your designs/decorations ideas.

Thank you! Great tips!
Love these ideas.
Do you know of a dupe for your white area rug that has the specks in it to hide mess? I need a 10x14 and the rug you have doesn’t come that big.
Why do I HATE canned lighting in the ceiling? I find it very glaring.....I know i am wreiid but I much prefer a table lamp....WHERE did you find that wooden planter for the large lamo on the left hand side of the room?

Most leases i have seen in the last few years have explicity stated that I as a tenant am not permitted to paint.
Thank you for the tips :)

Thanks for the video and wonderful tips!!
Love love love you!!!
Great tips!!
I am in the process of redoing my bedroom ...I painted the wall behind my bed a gold accent color ...and hate it especially since it’s the basement and the natural light isn’t great
Painted my (landlord’s) living room and kitchen and he found out 2 years later (and actually reimbursed me for it) lol
Where did you purchase the wallpaper! Beautiful baby room. 💕
Great tips! By the way anytime I see a wall clock in any store I think of you.
