Try your best to ignore the haters mate, at the end of the day it's your channel to do whatever the heck you want. The vast majority of us will enjoy your videos no matter what you do, so if you suddenly decide to pivot into wilderness alternative dance we'd probably still watch.
Scotty, mate your videos are just getting better and better! The start of this one was all time, the best one yet! Keep up the awesome work mate, your a legend and I love your content 👌🏼🤙🏼
When indulging in food such as that, when out in the sticks, I nearly always turn to an expression my old Scottish uncle used to use back in the 1960's . . . "Wouldn't call the king my uncle." When we live like this, we are as rich as the richest.
When you are changing lures often, a product from Mustad called Fastach Clip is the way to go. A size 3 will give a 75lb breaking strain. They are not swivels, everyone around here uses them on the cod. Keep up the good work. 👍🤠
Been watching Scotty since he had under 500 subscribers and now seeing that he’s about to crack the 100k mark is incredible, we’ll deserved mate love your stuff! ❤️
Fishing is hit n miss for most people Scotty so don't get discouraged just keep at it. Your casting is very much spot on and your fires sre something else mate. Awesome country you bring us to so keep this stunning photography going. ATVB. Bushyboy Oz.
Scotty, this area hasn't fish as well as it use to since the drought a couple of years back. Cod are generally a ambush fish that like structure and in this gorge system its the rocky undercuts.
Cannot deny that everything about what you do in these vids leaves me as jealous af! Don't have any kids until you are well and truly done with these adventures!
Awesome video mate! Some tips for cod fishing is to let your spinnerbaits sink a bit more because a lot of the time cod tend to take lures on the drop. Another tip is to use surface lures mainly dawn or dusk when the cod will feel safer breaking the surface. 🤙🏼🍻🌅
I can see why you love the area, it’s absolutely stunning and yes, reminiscent of mountains in the US. So pleased you eventually caught a Murray cod, well done. Thanks for your time and sharing your adventure with us. Take care, be safe. ❤️ Dorset, UK
Hi Scotty, I follow your videos and I'm impressed with all of your adventures, quality of videos and their content. Thank you for showing the world how blessed we are here downunder. Can you please try to describe the sound you've heard at around 3 am, I am really intrigued. Keep up the good work, best regards Ernie
I wonder if it wasn't a species of owl - they are extremely quiet (it's a key characteristic of their hunting strategy) so Scotty wouldn't have heard it fly in or away. Just speculating....
Gday Scotty. Love the video. Don’t worry about your rod - just take it to a tackle shop and get them to put a tip ferrul on your rod. It will work fine. A good tackle shop will teach you how to do it yourself. I’ve shortened a few rods bush bashing. They still work fine. Hope this helps
HI Scotty, thank you for another great video! You've helped inspire me to explore some crown land camping here in naturally beautiful Canada. Thanks for sharing!
Sounds in the night. Yeah, sometimes they can be disconcerting. I woke one night in Alaska to something that sounded like a cow pissing on a rock behind my tent. Turned out to be a sow brown bear! It was pitch black but somehow the 357 turned up in my hand. Fortunately, she went on about her business and wandered on downstream. Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep that night!
Love your videos man! And defo the fishing ones too even though I'm not a fisherman myself. You've inspired me to buy my own gear and go out camping myself. Ive even got the same vanquest organizer als you and am loving it. Keep up the good work legend! 💪
Nothing like sitting back with my favourite bevvy and watching the latest SGWA video - and this video was fantastic. The wife and I have been followers for a long time. Congrats on catching your first Cod. It took me a long time before I caught my first, but there have been many since. I think the fisheries guys are to be commended for the return in numbers of these iconic native species after the population crashes of the '80s. Next one to cross off is the elusive Trout Cod 😉 A bit harder to track down but also coming back in numbers. Keep up the great work. We need our regular SGWA fix!
That would have to be the Warabah national park. Love it so much, I live in Manilla. Could of shown you some special holes. Think you may of stopped at the park I run 👌 Great stuff mate, love your videos
Great content as always mate. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into your videos. Beautiful part of Australia mate . Well done Love it. ❤️🍺🇦🇺👍
Hi Scotty. Nice video and as many others have commented your videos just keep getting better. Tip for preventing breakage of those delicate thin brittle rods - when you are moving through underbrush turn your rod around and hold the rod by the rear grip so the tip is trailing behind you. Only thing that may catch is the odd runner but you wont be breaking any more rod tips.
Mate your videos are going from strength to strength. Beautiful filming, locations I can only dream of. Well done on the cod mate another epic adventure. Again thank you for bring me on your adventures. Cheers Andy
I love the fishing videos mate. Murray cod can be a difficult fish to catch, but if you keep making casts you will end up catching them, as you proved in this vid. they are always worth the effort because they are one of the most beautiful fish on the planet. They like hanging behind big logs and boulders that are stopping the main flow of the river and ambushing food as it comes past. Keep up the good content mate, lovin it.
Great vid mate. Without hearing or getting a re-enactment of the noise you heard it's pretty difficult to guess, but April in Australia is the Fallow deer rut so you could look up Fallow deer buck grunt. Kind of sounds like a fog croaking down a length tubing I guess. 👍🏻
That's exactly right mate, fishing is far more than catching fish, it's the place's it takes you, if you let it. You've fathomed this out early on in your fishing carrier, well done 😉
G’day Scotty, have just discovered your channel, snd loving it! In your cod fishing video, that big waterfall with the high cliff on the northern bank, is a barrier to carp - they have never appeared to be above it when I have fished there. But very good cod fishing above the falls, and some great beach camping spots above too!
Don't give up on the cod fishing Scotty. Those were some tough conditions to catch a cod in and you still jagged one. Catching cod on surface is my all time favourite and definitely worth the hours and kilometres through the granite belt to get em. The noise you heard was probably a young goat, they are everywhere through there and make some of the weirdest noises i've ever heard.
Hey Scotty, love your videos mate 👌 In regards to Murray cod; Structure: 2 big key items - anything that creates an obstruction from the current, and anything that is overhanging (they like having something above their head). A low overhanging tree at dawn and dusk is exceptional (bait fish will gather to eat bird shit) Lure selection: I tend to use cranks/soft plastics during the high of the day, if I can’t get a bite or I’m fishing somewhere snagy I’ll then switch to chatters/spinner baits. From first light until direct sunlight on water I’ll use top water gear. Lure colour: try to match the colour of the water. Purples/blacks work for murky muddy water and your fluros orange/yellow/green colour for clearer (blue works exceptionally well in clear water on overcast days). How long to keep a lure on for: if it’s golden hour and your not getting hits and fishing in good territory I wouldn’t go anything over 15 minutes (trying different retrieval paces/patterns every 5th cast). Middle of the day maybe 30-40 minutes. Middle of the day try to hit the same structure at least 10 times as they usually hit during this time due to aggression over feeding. Don’t be afraid to let chatters/spinners sink for a good couple of seconds every few jerks when fishing in deep holes as well, a lot of people retrieve to quick and their lure doesn’t get deeper than 2 metres when the holes 10m deep. Best thing is keep a fishing journal. Document structure, time, weather, lure, retrieval type, water colour, fish length/type, etc etc. After a few fish you will start to seeing trends. Hope that helps 👍
Amazing video mate! You did the camp thing backwards though, set up camp early get some firewood to get a fire started later and then around 4pm go fishing, thats when the bite starts, as the sun starts to die down and about half an hour after it sets is when it gets good.
If you ever want to fish this place again. I can show you the ropes. Our last 2 night trip there produced over 30 cod. Biggest around 90 cm. Lived here my whole life.
I snapped my favorite mini ultralight a couple times that I've had for about 15 years now, each time I just put a new cap ring lead on. Still use it. It's even better for backpacking now than it was new lol.
Beautiful country! I am from Central Texas and we have lot's of granite and cedar trees that look very similar to the area you are hiking in on this video. We have lot's of rivers too! Love your walk abouts! Thanks for posting for us all to enjoy!
Did anyone else notice he put the morning wood shot with the water droplets in the vid... Lmao. Been loving the vids man keep it up. This one inspired me to go and get back out
Another great video mate. Re broken rod, best to walk with the rod but pointing forward, which reduces the chance of breaking the tip off, esp if you trip!
Well done Scotty, you have now become the ultimate Australian bush camper and heard your first Drop Bear. Won''t be your last and you'll probably will encounter a Yetti one day as well. Congrats and enjoy the experience.
Scotty, great video.. Cod fishing is not easy mate.. using mumbles on them anytime of year & you can't go wrong.. all round lure / top or bottom water.. keep the videos coming legend 👍🎣
I have done a lot of fresh water fishing, Bass, Cod and trout and the best lure in my opinion is the spinner bait with Z man soft plastic moter oil grubz.
That place is a winner Scotty👍 I usually put ya vids on as I get ready for work in the morning 3.30am gives me a chill vibe for the day, Really enjoyed the pack rafting vid with old mate, gives me the Malcom Douglas Vibes🤘stay safe out there brother and can't wait for the nxt installment 🤘🇳🇿🍺
Greetings from the USA. What a beautiful fish! Loved the mountain views and waterfall. The shot of you eating dinner with the fire blazing and the full moon was excellent. I'd frame that one and hang it on the wall. Very exciting trip. Who knows what that night noise was, maybe Sasquatch. Do you have the Sasquatch legend in Australia? Great video. HooRoo!
Great stuff Scotty the first catch of any species is always special and it is usually the one you remember most I can only assume you were 8 hours north of home as that cod looked like an eastern cod , enjoyed the vid a lot thanks for the effort you put in.
8 hours and carp. Grrr. Always love your relaxed chats and honesty in adding the trials. Thanks for taking this senior Q,lander on what was a surprise turtle find out NSW bush. Beautiful stills! A Cod at last, what a joy for that 8 hours! Good on you!
Scotty another great video. Lived this one. Great spot to campus. Sand and a stream. Nice fires and a moon shot. Really fun one. Well writing. Can't wait for the next one. Cheers!
Great trip Mate! Thanks for bringing us along! Congrats on the fish. I got to go fly fishing last week for the first time and had a blast. I didn't catch anything, but had fun just the same. HooRoo!
Love it mate, it's on my bucket list to do something like this. Was the other way around for me in getting out and about, wanted to chase more aussie natives so now I'm travelling 5-6+ hours to land barra and cod.
The videos keep getting better! I think you should keep up the fishing in your videos if you're enjoying it. As you mentioned, it gets you out into different places, but on top of that it shows another interesting element to the places you visit and we get to see you develop as a fisherman
You make great videos man. You really capture the beauty of the land, keep it up. Your channel is the only one I’ve ever subscribed to, and I’m 34 years old, you’ve got something good going here, brother!
Good work catching that cod mate. Cast surface lures or flies very early in the morning, starting while it’s still dark. Very late afternoon into the dusk is good too. That predatek boomerang lure you used at one stage is a great cod lure in that type of river. Good for big bass too
Always enjoy your videos mate, you’re a raw & honest young fella. Looks like you’re in the New England area somewhere, don’t worry the cod are about, fish at sunrise & sunset. Don’t be afraid to fish moving water, and pepper one area with many casts as they’re territorial & lazy so they will bite if you annoy them enough. Also dirty water = dark lure, like black. Look up Paul Kneller Lures, he is an innovator in hand crafted aussie lures & you will not beat his lures for cod.
Funny that you mentioned you heard a strange sound. While watching , before you got to that part I was thinking it would be interesting to ask what is the weirdest unexplainable thing you've heard or seen while in the bush - given you spend a lot of time exploring different areas I was sure you'd have some interesting stories
Hi Scottie, just adding a little advice, fished a lot around the Severn River in Northern NSW whilst living in Australia, similar country to where you fished, and through trial and error over the years found some of the more oxygenated river sections below waterfalls and rapids will hold Murray and Trout Cod, water may look fast on the surface, but deep fishing lures like spinnerbaits and big rubber baits with heavy heads will get down to the slower water beneath, and on the noses of those olive green ambush predators below, recommend switching from spinner reel to baitcaster style too, I have a nice Diawa Millionaire with a left hand wind handle (rare but easier than keep swapping hands when casting) hardly used it, it's like new, I'll gift it to you if you want it, just email me a postage address and I'll get it downunder to you, not much use for it back in Blighty, P.S would love to see a Tasmanian trip to the 19 lagoons central highlands, and a Kimberley Gorge trip for Barra and Mangrove Jack would be cool too. One of my fav fishing trips I had in my time downunder.
Great video. One hint!! when walking in the bush carry you rod handle first with rod tip behind you!! When you put your rod sections together run the male ends on your nose and get some oil on them to make it easier to take them apart!!
Go with silver, white flashy lures on sunny clear days, dark brown, olive, black colors on cloudy, overcast stormy days. That at least works well for fish here in the US.
Hi, walk the rod backwards and it doesn't catch. Snowy River would be my guess east of Jacobs R intersection. I drove the Barry way in March. Difficult road in a strange way. Just slow and long.
When walking with a rod hook your lure on the lowest guide and tighten your line so that there is a slight bend in the rod. Never reel the lure up to the tiptop eye, even between casts, you risk damaging the eye and the type of load you put into the rod blank isn't natural for the blank.
What a beautiful place - we’re so lucky with the beauty we have here in Aus, though I’m in Western Australia so we’re a lot drier than you on the east coast. I love your videos Scotty, they’re so calming and relaxing thanks so much ☺️
Quick tip (excuse the pun) that a fly fishing guide taught me when walking through the bush always have the tip of the rod behind you that way if you get caught up it won’t load up the rod and possibly break the tip off Love the videos, such beautiful places 👍
Great content as ever Scotty. Glad to see you landed a Murray Cod mate. Beautiful location, superb weather, Good footage. Couldn't ask for better. .......Except......you don't seem to read most of these? I asked a question weeks ago about your preference in Utility knives Kore or Gidgey....... never got any advice. Maybe I have to pay to get your attention?
Hey mate, sorry I didn't get back to your previous message. I get asked hundreds of messages everyday, both on RUclips and instagram. I lead a pretty busy life so it's hard for me to get back to everyone. As for your question, both are great knives. But I prefer my Kor knife. His attention to detail and craftsmanship is superb.
@@ScottysGoneWalkabout ok thanks… ….I ordered a 51/2in Gidgey Utility knife with a high grip wooden/ leather handle. I did this because Scott forges his own steels rather than pre made grade 4 tool used by Kor. Also I asked for hollow ground steel with a case hardened blade for longevity of sharpness of hone. I don’t think Kor can do that (saw the manufacture of both). Also asked for a sheath to take the flint steel which was agreed to. Total cost was $570
Awesome clip mate! Google the sound of Red Deer “roaring” or Fallow deer “croaking”. The males are in their mating period and may have been grunting or roaring at you to see if you were a challenge. Both are pretty stealthy in the bush. Keep up the videos! You’ll slay the cod doing what you’re doing.
Try your best to ignore the haters mate, at the end of the day it's your channel to do whatever the heck you want.
The vast majority of us will enjoy your videos no matter what you do, so if you suddenly decide to pivot into wilderness alternative dance we'd probably still watch.
Really love your videos man. No one else is doing this sort of thing in Australia. You should be getting way more views.
What about Chris Bamman??
Both brilliant watching
Thanks a lot mate! Glad you enjoy them.
Field Days 👍
Silly swagman is a top lad
Warrabah national Park was beautiful this Easter. Congrats on the catch. We got nothing but nibbles
Scotty, mate your videos are just getting better and better! The start of this one was all time, the best one yet! Keep up the awesome work mate, your a legend and I love your content 👌🏼🤙🏼
Yep best vid ever
Thanks heaps for the kind words mate. Really appreciate it.
No worries mate! Keep doing what your doing, its top shelf mate 👍🏼
When indulging in food such as that, when out in the sticks, I nearly always turn to an expression my old Scottish uncle used to use back in the 1960's . . . "Wouldn't call the king my uncle."
When we live like this, we are as rich as the richest.
When you are changing lures often, a product from Mustad called Fastach Clip is the way to go. A size 3 will give a 75lb breaking strain. They are not swivels, everyone around here uses them on the cod. Keep up the good work. 👍🤠
Great tip mate. Thanks
Nooooo don’t trust clips. Ever. Just my opinion
Clips suck ass I wouldn’t trust them with a soft plastic let alone a $25 hard body
Been watching Scotty since he had under 500 subscribers and now seeing that he’s about to crack the 100k mark is incredible, we’ll deserved mate love your stuff! ❤️
Fast becoming my favourite channel on RUclips, love your content mate! You've inspired me to get my boys out and see this magnificent country of ours.
Thanks mate, that's awesome to hear.

To be honest, it sounded like something farted or took a s#*t haha But really loud.

Good for big bass too
Wish you would share the locations sometimes. These are bucket list locations.
Hi mate if you watch his qna video he made he answers that very question 🤙
Amazing! How are you not worried about snakes, crocs, spiders, aliens....and running out of Pesto ? Seriously though-awesome video!
Great thing to watch on a cold rainy day here in N Wisconsin. Thanks.
Hi, walk the rod backwards and it doesn't catch. Snowy River would be my guess east of Jacobs R intersection. I drove the Barry way in March. Difficult road in a strange way. Just slow and long.
Beautiful camp as always but glad you got to land that cod at the end!
My favourite youtube channel mate. Inspiring me to get up and head bush. Keep the videos coming
I love your videos Scotty, they’re so calming and relaxing thanks so much ☺️
What a beautiful place - an amazing life you live
Just beautiful land, amazing.
Quick tip (excuse the pun) that a fly fishing guide taught me when walking through the bush always have the tip of the rod behind you that way if you get caught up it won’t load up the rod and possibly break the tip off
Love the videos, such beautiful places 👍
Exactly what I was going to say! Fly rods always point backwards!
Total cost was $570
Cheers from Canada love the vid you would love Canada!! Food looked great also.
