This video is ace. My lg TV died over Christmas but the flashlight test proved that it was the backlight that was blown. I bought lights for £60 and followed this video exactly and it now works perfectly again. Thank you so much, you've saved me a small fortune!!
Thank you for posting this video. The step by step instructions helped me repair my father in laws LG TV with very little trouble, keeping it out of landfill! Amazing.
Thank you for the step by step video, it allowed me to replace the backlights on my lg42lb580v TV. Using suction cups to remove the lcd screen was a great tip.
I used these instructions to replace not an entire strip but just a single diffuser on the strip. It had dislodged, and all it needed was a little bit of glue to put it back in. thank you very much; these instructions were excellent!
Very grateful for this video. TV went down christmas eve, 2 weeks out of warranty. Local repair service quoted £200, LG Quoted £300! Got replacement array for £35 and did it myself. Would have bought parts from you if not for delivery timescale. Excellent video, especially as I had never done anything like this. Thank you.
Thanks a lot, you saved the day. Today I did purchase backlights and did a DIY on my LG42'' TV following exactly what you demonstrated and my TV is back to life. Cheers man
Very nice guide. All steps presented perfectly. Following your guide, I just replaced LEDs in my brother's LG 42LB5500, and it works. Saved him some money for repair. Thanks for the video and please keep making these videos.

Hey great video!! i made a rookie mistake while taking the diffuser sheets off my lb5500 and i cant foe the life of me remember how which order the sheets go back on. Please help!!
Nice job mate!!!!! :) With your video I was able to replace them, however removing the old strips was not so easy :) So now I have a working TV. Thank you!
Can I ask what the symptom was when you had an led backlight fail? My sister's lb5500 has just stopped working, and I'm currently trying to diagnose the fault. (Though I suspect it's the backlight) When switched on, the faulty TV displays the LG logo for a split second, and then the picture is gone. The TV is still working as audio from TV channels can be heard, just no picture.
@@TehJumpingJawa i had exactly the same symptoms, you need to change the led backlight strips as i did. And for future dont crank up the backlight brightness to100% in picture settings menu, i set it to 85% to preserve leds.
How do you know if it's the led strips that failed or if it's the driver I have an image of i hold a light up to the screen but no back light I'm going to order new led strips but not sure if it's the strips or the board that's failed ?
Hello ,, i have a 32lb650v LG . last year i replaced the motherboard to LG service . Now the last 2 months i can see all the leds of the panel glowing when tv shows light colours or white. At dark colours and black there is no problem. Do you think i need led strips replace ?
i need help, when placing the panel down somewhere else when repairing, one of the ribbons connecting the panel to the bufferboard came off the bufferboard and i cant reattach it, now half of my screen gets an image, what do i do?
Please can you give me a little bit of advice!? I have an LG 42 LF561V. I am looking at a replacement screen for a 42" LG TV, with the details :- LC420EUH SC A1 6091L-1140E For LG *42LE5900* As far as I can see, it may be an identical Pin for Pin replacement but if anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated! I'm looking at the Very Good Condition replacement screen at a Very good price of £49 GBP, which has me hoping it is a possible replacement!🤞
I'm not 100% sure but I think that doesn't really matter. I also have a slightly different model and it fits perfectly. I haven't tested it yet but I'm assuming it will work.
Would these steps be similar to, or the same as, the steps needed to replace the LED lights for an LG 42LN5300? If not, could you please reply with a link which offer similiarly detailed steps? Thank you.
I just did an LG 47" telly....only variance was the LED strips were firmly stuck down with tape, but replacement worked fine, all working perfectly again.
I have one that lights up for a short time, then the whole backlight goes out. Still has a picture. So where exactly is the backlight controller board? Or would it be the strips themselves, that are the problem? Thank.
@@zecanadian2149 I've been putting it off for now. But I think it's going to be the control board/main board, from other videos I've watched. That is my next test. The voltage output to the lights. I replaced the lights already. Stays on a little longer. Realized I forgot to put the speakers back in. I doubt the speakers not being in, would cause the back light to shut off. LOL
Hello Jimmy, I have been following your videos from past month now. I own a LG 40 inch UHD SMART LED TV. it's been two years I own this TV now. due to some voltage fluctuations, the TV suddenly went blank. The LG support engineers came and asked me to replace the connecting cable. I have done that but still some black patch has remained towards the top and bottom left corner of the TV now. from today some horizontal lines has started coming in those black patches. I contacted LG support and now they are saying that I need to replace the T CON board of the TV for which I have to pay them: $150. I need your help with this. I want to buy the T CON board separately as I see it's available online at the max at about $ 30. could you guide me with this please. the model no of my TV is: 40UB800T
I hate to break it to you but you probably have a bad LCD panel. Here is a direct quote from the shop jimmy website, "Horizontal lines on the screen are virtually NEVER caused by a bad T-con board. Horizontal lines indicate a defective LCD panel (screen)."
I had this exact problem - I could see the screen images when using a torch, but otherwise the screen was black and there was no sound. I replaced the LED backlights, switched on, but it was the same - so maybe it isn't the backlights? Anybody have any idea what the problem may be instead?
@@starscream5813 I'm afraid I haven't had the time to take another look. It's on my todo list. I was surprised because it was the exact same problem, but must be something else.

You're backlight just went out randomly right? Someone who doesn't necessarily know a bunch about modern TVs said there was a chance that it might be a capacitor that blew but I kinda doubt it. I still get a picture and sound, just no backlight.
