- I'm breaking down for you how to legally ride a motorbike in Bali and what to be aware of during the rental process. A scooter is the best way to get around and explore Bali as taxis can be expensive and require negotiation on pricing. Ride hailing apps like Grab and GoJek don't work in every neighborhood and operate in a shady area of legality.
Renting a scooter is going to cost more in Canggu than in Ubud and daily prices are more expensive than weekly or monthly prices. After two weeks, the monthly price is better than the daily price, so consider renting for the period of a month if you're staying longer than two weeks.
Normal pricing:
Honda Scoopy: 50K per day / 600 or 700K per month
Honda Vario 115: 60K per day / 700K per month
Honda Vario 125/135: 70K per day / 750K per month (Ubud) or 1M-1.2M per month (Canggu)
Honda NMax: 1.5-1.8M per month
Lived here in bali for nearly 5 years now and coming from 25 years on big bikes incl 9 years on and off a track and this guy is right on the money. Totally true
The chief concern with not having an IDP with a motorcycle endorsement isn't getting stopped. The chief concern is that you’re completely uninsured while riding if you don’t have it, because any injuries are the result of what is technically illegal activity. DO NOT drive uninsured. Riding as a passenger via the grab app is the only insured way as the company itself provides insurance for riders.
I’m back in the states and in the middle of my motorcycle course which is actually a boat load of work, but it’ll be worth it if I ever need it.
Excellent videos BTW, just wanted to clear up that one point.
Yep that’s true too. My motorcycle course was super easy, two days in Florida and done
Great informative vlog thankyou for sharing 🙏 We will be getting a scooter when we move there this year
Will be in Bali in a few months, Thanks for great advice!
'If your travelling in bali for 1 or 2 week don't bother'. Why don't you just do the right thing it's not hard
Okay so I'm planning on going to Bali this was really helpful thank you so much. And Adrian! Gosh, kinda cute bud!
IDP is required if you have a crash otherwise your travel insurance will wipe you...Be warned. Dont ride a bike without one.
How much is the usual bribe?
If you have an ASEAN licence (Philippines, Thai etc) you can also ride legally without an International Driving Permit. There is an agreement between the ASEAN countries to accept each others licences. Of course you need to have a licence endorsed for motorcycles.
Is this true?
@@honeyrichalipio3469 I know this comment was from 2 years ago but yes this is true. I am Malaysian and was stopped once in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The police immediately said that Malaysia is part of ASEAN so I was free to go since I had my Malaysian driving license with me.
Bali Bluebird Taxis are the best, no ripping off! Check the logo carefully, as the others try to copy it. -
With Electric Scooters you don't need registration or a licence to ride, at present.
I’m gonna say Vietnam is way worse than Bali for scootering, but yea lately it’s been getting pretty crazy. Impatient locals trying to rip past tourists, impatient tourists trying to rip past locals, especially around the busy tourist areas during rush hour, it gets a tad sketchy
Right now gojek is so convenient. I pay many times 1k for 10 min ride because of promotion. But of course to rent is better for longer time
dont forget bike insurance, however, there is a hefty excess payent
to speak like this is a sign that you know Indonesia very well because gps navigators are not reliable in Indonesia because the connection is perpetually unstable
Go into your local motorcycle training (home country or there?) and add that on your license (home country or there?) then go to you triple A (what’s a triple A?)
In Ubuud for 750 k rupiah per month you might find a Honda 125/135 cc which is cheaper than in Changu)
It’s legal to wear a helmet but wear a hat underneath unless you’re gonna buy one. Don’t go to family rental and always check Google ratings (there’s was 2.1)
Cheers! (Still great but any help with questions anyone?) Cheers x
Thank you so much for sharing this!!
Very helpful, thank you, watching this in 2023 preparing for April Bali trip. What I'd find very helpful too is if you have any insights (or could recommend another good video?) where the insurance on those rental bikes is explained? Is all of that included in the rental? AND if you have a preferred place in Canggu to deal with bike rental, please let me know too! 🙏🙏
There’s no such thing as insurance on motorbikes in bali
@@AdrienField thank you for your reply! Do you think an international drivers permit + Australian learners motorbike license + full car license would be enough to stay out of the trouble with their police?
@@RideInBali hi, I’m planning august with my wife, I’d imagine from what I’ve heard just slip them $20 aud and you’ll be good
@@PabloM5 thank you, that helps! I look forward to a follow up video on the latest and greatest maybe? Those are always interesting for most audiences
Goodday sir, I'm trying to start a rental motorbike but with the avenger cruise 220 from Kawasaki/Bajaj here in Philippines. I just want to ask from a tourist's experience and perspective, should I go with small cruisers? or stick with the scooters?
thanks for the videos, what happened if your byke is stolen ?
Thanks for the info!
Great info thanks
I have full licenece but only covers 50cc scooter if get ids will I be all right passing threw checks off cops on 125cc scooters will they check ids ..
Try riding a motorbike in Jakarta, insane. Ppl do not even look before turning left , they look sometimes turning right for incoming traffic, Insanity. They have no concept of basic safety there. They all drive by experience and pure instinct, not trained properly in safety or any-kind of regulations. Bali, Vietnam , Malaysia was so easy to drive for me bc it’s nothing like Jakarta. Most of my foreign friends could not ride a motorbike in Jakarta bc has 4th worst traffic in the world, and too scared to even try after one day. Btw, do not visit Jakarta, worst southeast asian city. Pollution , mosquitos, 10k mosques screaming 5-10 times at every corner of any neighbourhoods or areas. Bali is the best place for foreigners bc mostly Hindu there and no crazy chants or demonstrations like Jakarta. I heard Bandung or Bogor is okay though.
Going to be in Legian this Xmas. Any suggestions where to rent a scooter with a surf rack? thanks : )
Literally anywhere
nice video
agree with you, thailand is more easier to ride than here :P
Hey man how do I get a scooter license or the thing you were talking about in america. I've never ridden a motorcycle. Like how do I start?
Zaid Rahman you don’t need any licenses, just rent a scooter, is the police stops you they only gonna rip you from your money then they let you pass
Cool
Do you have to give the rental places your passport?
No, they’ll just take a photocopy
@@AdrienField Thank You! Great video btw!
Do you know about Pengashan?
