That looks like it has the original Avet factory grease. It thickens up over time enough to slow everything down. I bought an unused early serial number Sx Raptor that was very sluggish. Removed all the original grease (which seemed to be in the "sealed" bearings too), oiled up the bearings and now it spins and cranks 100x better. P.S. - thanks for the shout out to the teachers!!
Thanks for the info and tip. A lot of manufacturers over grease the reels before shipment. They don't want them to break under warranty, even if it impacts performance - Dennis
Dennis you post some great videos and have helped me tremendously when servicing my and my friends reels. I have encountered a problem and need your help. I have an Avet SX 6/4 Raptor and I’m changing the bearings to ceramic. I ran into a problem that the drag bearing is corroded and stuck to the aluminum frame. The gear is also corroded to the bearing. I have tried penetrating oil and tapping on the bearing and gear with no luck. Any suggestions? Thanks very much, Rick
That sounds like a tough one with all of the corrosion. You may need to get a new side plate and start over. You can try to heat the gear shaft briefly with plumbers torch for about 20 seconds or so. If you do, please be careful not to burn the reel or yourself. Heat should help break up the rusted parts if all else has failed. It is the last resort - Dennis
Love your videos, servicing my reels helps me get through the winter! I see that you add oil to the sealed (blue) bearings without removing the seal. You feel that the oil will penetrate?
I add the oil to make sure the inner and outer races run free. I do not open up sealed bearings when servicing the reel and generally will replace the bearing if it is running rough - Thanks for asking - Dennis
Hey Dennis. I have rebuilt 2 of my Avet's because of your great videos. One is in need of replacement of the spool barrings. Where do you suggest I purchase those? Thanks for sharing.
I have this reel. It holds roughly 500 yrds of 50lb braid. Why is the subject reel spooled with one billion yards of 15lb (or so) braid? I find larger diameter braid , 50lb = 12lb mono, causes less trouble and maximizes the potential of a small, powerful reel. We fish big king salmon with 300 yards of 65lb. Don't get it. Thanks for this great video.
Try taking off the preset and reposition the arm to another spot 15 minutes away on either side and then reinstall. Eventually, you should find the point where the mesh is correct and it free spools properly - Dennis

Great instructional video! Thanks again. I heard from other fishermen that Avet is hard to assemble.
I guess hard is a relative term. I've worked on a lot of others that are more difficult - Thanks for watching - Dennis
THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO
